I'm in too much of a hurry to light the oven, I just pop the bread in the toaster.

Toaster oven if not buttered, but in the oven if buttered, which does take longer but it's better too. We've used whole wheat bread, for years, which is neither here nor there, but trying to not use white anything....including potatoes. Supposed to use only whole wheat products. Don't make bread much anymore either. Bob gained a good bit of weight while on steroids and pulmonary doctor says cut way back on carbs. Boo hoo hoo. Bread is one of, make that MY FAVORITE,food. I didn't think I could cut way back on it but I did and we have both lost weight. You do what you have to. Right?

Haven't bought salt risen from them, but I have bought bread and they sliced it for you right in the store.

Our very favorite is "camp" toast....Buttered bread cooked in a cast iron skillet over a camp fire.
Another favorite of mine is "Annie Toast."
My mom was Annie and I never, ever knew toast could be anything but burned with the black part scraped off.
(Until I got married.)
It is still a family joke.

We don't eat much toast as DH has to watch his carbs due to diabetis and weight. Toast is toast to me, and with butter, and honey or jelly, but not much.

I make my toast in a toaster oven, very seldom butter it. I put pbutter/100% fruit jam or just the jam~~~

Never had anything except toaster toast....now I'm intrigued with making it in an oven. Never heard of it, even!

use the toaster, sam's club special raisin bread, or costco's sour dough...sad to say we're heavy of the spread, lol...

now for grilled cheese, sour dough, and has to be nicely brown...

I have never heard of making toast in the oven either, especially not baked with the butter on it. I might have to try that!

I do like toast. And I like anything toasted to be crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, if possible. A good piece of marble rye, toasted and chewy and buttery is devine!

Burnt toast can be scraped a little, but I like it spread with mustard, of all things! Something about the alchemy between the charcoal bits and the zingy mustard makes it taste creamy. Don't know how that works, but it does. Learned it from my mother, who learned it from hers.

Turns out it was a way to salvage a piece of toast back when NOTHING was wasted, and usually it was the mom that got that piece, giving the better unburned pieces to husband and children.

I always make my toast in the oven under the broiler. I have a toaster but that is for waffles, LOL. I butter the bread lightly, put it on an old pizza pan of my MIL's and place it under the broiler. I closely watch it and when it is golden brown I remove it and flip it over on the pan until I can finish up the rest of what I might be cooking. That way the bottom doesn't get soggy from the steam.

I use an electric toaster. Finally got the setting just right, it comes out just the way I like it for my favorite sandwich, the BLT.

I don't have a toaster, so I make it in a skillet...my preferred way....lots of butter.

I use the toaster, but I used to put it under the broiler and when one side was brown, took it out and spread softened butter and cinnamon sugar over the top and stuck it back under the broiler. I'd forgotten all about that, but it sure sounds good. Serve with hot chocolate for dunking :-)

When I saw this heading I immediately thought of rye toast with honey, although I haven't had that in decades.

I use the toaster-oven for toasting bread, English muffins, whatever, and use either butter OR preserves -- not both.

I remember a bit of dialogue between English newlyweds. One asked the other, "Do you want to toast or scrape?" I think they were doing their toasting over an open fire.

My late mother-in-law made the best toast! She baked her own bread, sliced it, toasted it in the oven, took it out, buttered it to the very edges, and put it back for the butter to melt into the toast.

She raised a very large family and by using the broiler pan she could make many slices at once.

I rarely eat toast, too many carbs. When I do eat it I use my toaster oven.

I have never heard of making toast in the oven! Or a skillet. The only time I use a skillet for bread is to make a grilled cheese.

Take one or more slices of bread (I use whole wheat), place in oven or toaster oven just until firm. Then spread with sweetened homemade apple sauce, sprinkle with apple pie spice, return to oven until firm and applesauce is hot. Healthy mock apple pie....had it tonight after we finished our potato soup for supper. Learned this many years ago from a diet plan similar to weight watchers, called "sure losers". Quick, easy and tasty.

Apple pie toast

6 slices cinnamon raisin bread
1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling, drained
6 (1 ounce each) slices sharp Cheddar cheese
Instructions
Preheat broiler. Place cinnamon-raisin bread on a baking sheet and lightly toast under broiler.

Remove from broiler and top each bread slice with an equal amount of apple pie filling and a cheese slice.

Broil 2 to 3 minutes, or until filling is heated through and cheese is melted. Serve immediately
