I use my white "plasticy" ones the most. I also have some thin plasticy ones. They all go in the dishwasher.

I read once that plastic dulls the knives. Is that true?

I use wood for everything but onion, and I have a special plastic one for that. Then it goes in the dishwasher. You can find nice, discounted wood and bamboo boards at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, the Home Store, and Ross.

I have both and use both, a large heavy orange plastic one for meat only, a small clear plastic one that is almost 30 years old for fruits, veggies and sandwich making. The bamboo one would be for sandwiches or something I wanted to display, like cheeses.

I only use plastic ones. How do you wash wood ones?? I thought getting them wet creates the bacteria to grow in the pores?

Tests have shown wooden boards are less likely than plastic to harbour germs. The wood itelf has some kind of antiseptic quality. Also plastic boards do tend to dull knives.

Mine is glass and I can't remember if I read or was told that the glass and plastic ones will make your knife dull faster than a wooden one. vique

I have both...and use both. Mostly the plastic one is used...we use ALOT of onions! Meats on this one also. It has gone through the dishwasher more times than I could even begin to count!

I have a large wooden one that is used to cut bread on. Mostly just wiped off then.

Personally, I would never use wooden to do anything with meat...and YES, my mother only used wood, and we are all still alive. Just a 'thing' with me.

I too believe it is true that plastic dulls knives much faster. I have a WONDERFUL knife sharpener...so I really don't care! LOL

I have Rada knives, and Henckel, and the sharpener sharpens everything!

i use wood...or a big plastic one...whatever I seem to grab!

I use plastic, easier to clean and disinfect. I never knew where to store the wood one. I use thin plastic ones that store under the microwave.
