The second link looks like it came from the book, which I bought. I'm positive mine won't be as neat, but hopefully the children will like them.

That's neat! I've seen them push the dough through cookie cutters too to get the shapes.

I think the candy melts are really what's needed for
a smooth look. I tried frosting, but it woudln't give you
a nice smooth finish.

Steph is at Disney on Ice and won't be home till late.
Here is a picture of the ones she made. She did use the candy melts to dip them in.
I know they took her hours to make.
The detail was incredible.
She didn't have any instructions, she just looked at a Sponge Bob picture.

Here are some you can adapt from the apple pops.
Some one at the wilton forum wrote this:

Form the pops into squares and dip them in yellow candy melts. From there you can draw on the face using melted chocolate in piping bags or edible markers.

A hundred years ago, one of my mom's friends made clowns for a birthday party... pointy cone decorated hat, face, ruffle collar..
She was soooo disappointed that the kids just 'tore into' them and never noticed the clown... This was back in the 50's when kids weren't as sophisticated as they are today..

Actually, they're very easy to make, just time-consuming; look on Bakerella's site for lots of free ideas and inspiration. If you loved playing with play doh as a kid, you'll have no trouble with the fondant accents. And once the candy melts have hardened, it's just like coloring with markers. It all goes back to "everything you need in life, you learned in kindergarten", LOL.

lol Pixi. I think I have some gum paste here, but not fondant. I'll have to check. I still love Play Doh, lol.

yeah, me too on the play doh . . . I love buying all the new accessory sets for my granddaughter (wink, wink) to play with :)

definitely get the fondant - gumpaste makes fantastic things, but I hate the taste! Or royal icing works well too - just pipe it on. I always forget about how great royal icing can be, like these cute butterflies last week for my mom's cake.

Oh wow, that's beautiful. Sadly I have no piping skills so that's out.
