My favorite is very simple. Mix one box Duncan Hines Devil's Food Cake mix with 3 eggs, 1 T. almond extract and 1 can cherry pie filling. Beat very well. Bake at 350 in 9 X 12 pan or in tube pan. Frost with favorite frosting.

I've done the same as Cmama, except I've used a spice cake mix and apple pie filling. I made a drizzle (thin) frosting made with powdered sugar and molasses, and drizzle it over the top of the cooled cake. Yum. Dottie

I've never made cake pops. Maybe you could share with us a recipe or two. Are they easy? What's the best way to present them?

Cmama, is that really a tablespoon of almond extract? The recipe sounds good.

Key Lime Cake Trisha Yearwood's Delicious Recipe

1 3-ounce package lime-flavored gelatin
1¹/3 cups granulated sugar
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
5 large eggs, slightly beaten
1½ cups vegetable oil
¾ cup orange juice
1 tablespoon lemon juice
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup Key lime juice (from about 25 small Key limes or 4 large
regular limes)
½ cup confectioners' sugar

CREAM CHEESE ICING
½ cup (1 stick) butter, room temperature
1 8-ounce package cream cheese, room temperature
1 1-pound box confectioners' sugar

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour three 9-inch round
cake pans.
1. In a large mixing bowl, mix the gelatin, sugar, flour, salt,
baking powder, and baking soda. Stir to mix well.
2. Add the eggs, oil, orange juice, lemon juice, and vanilla.
3. Divide the batter evenly among the 3 pans and bake for 35 to 40
minutes. Test for doneness by lightly touching the tops of the
layers or inserting a toothpick.
Cool the layers in the pans for 5 minutes, then turn them out
onto racks.
While the layers are still hot, mix the lime juice and
confectioners' sugar and pour it over the layers on the racks.
You can pierce the layers with a fork to allow the glaze to soak
in better. Allow the layers to cool completely as you prepare the
icing.
Cream the butter and cream cheese. Beat in the confectioners'
sugar until the mixture is smooth and easy to spread. Spread the
icing between the layers and on the top and sides of the cake.
The cream cheese icing is optional. This cake is beautiful and
tastes great with just the glaze poured over it.
Key limes can be hard to find. Substitute regular lime juice for
key lime juice without sacrificing flavor.

I'd guess with cake pops you can't have much more than the cake? I mean like nothing chunky?? Can you try adding pistachio pudding to cake mix? I am not sure how much you'd need to give it a good pistachio flavor??

Or they do have pistchio flavoring itself....

I'm too lazy to get the recipe out, but if you google Hershey's Perfectly Chocolate Cake the recipe will come up. I just made it for bridge on Monday and everyone loved it. For a group of women who don't generally eat dessert, there was very little left over. The chocolate frosting is very good,too. I would definitely make again.....and it is very easy. I made the cake portion on Saturday and froze it. Frosted it Sunday night. Freezing makes it easier to frost.

p.s. I'm not even a chocolate cake fan, but it was very good.

Here are two recipes I have made. Both are moist. I once sold the Pistachio Marble Cake at a bake sale for $15!

Pistachio Marble Cake

1 pkg. yellow cake mix
1 pkg. (4-serving) Jell-O Pistachio Instant Pudding
4 eggs
1 C water
1/2 C oil
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1/4 C chocolate syrup

Combine cake mix, pudding mix, eggs, water, oil and extract in large mixer bowl. Blend; then beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Measure 1 1/2 C batter; stir in chocolate sryup. Spoon batters alternately into a greased and floured 10" Bundt pan or tube pan. Zigzag spatula through the batter to marble.

Bake @ 350º for 50 minutes. Cool 15 minutes; remove from pan and finish cooling on rack. Sprinkle with confectioners sugar before serving.

Pistachio Inside Outside Cake

1 pkg. white or yellow cake mix
1 pkg. (4-serving) Jell-O Pistachio Instant Pudding
3 eggs
1 C club soda
1 C oil
1/2 C chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350ºF.

Blend all ingredients in large mixer bowl, then beat 2 minutes at medium speed. Bake in greased and floured 10" Bundt pan @ 350º for 50 minutes. Cool 15 minutes; remove from pan and cool on rack. Split into 3 even layers. Spread about 1C of frosting between layers, spoon rest into center. Chill. Garnish with chopped nuts.

To make frosting:
Blend 1 pkg. (4-serving) Jell-O Pistachio Instant Pudding with 12 ounces Cool Whip. Chill slightly to set.

No, I can't have much more than a cake for cake balls. Nothing chunky so any flavoring I'd add would I guess have to come from extracts or something. I guess the possibilities are endless if I do that. I have made a vanilla cake with almond flavoring and it's so delicious for cake pops.

Carla, if you go to bakerella.com and click on the cake pops link, you'll see step by step directions with pictures. That's where I got the recipe/directions. They're easy, but time consuming. Unless you start making characters like I recently attempted...those take forever and are kinda hard!

Presenting them depends on what you're doing with them. I've made them for parties and I stick them in basket or metal type tub like a bouquet. Here's a few pictures:

And here's a couple character ones I tried. I only made one of each because I wanted to learn how to make them. They turned out pretty cute but the Nemo took a really long time. I'm not so sure I'd want to do a whole batch of them!

Those are so cute! I would love to make them... but I fear I haven't the patience or talent to. I was hoping for something a little easier (ok, a lot easier). Hope you find some more recipes. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Carla, the non character ones are easy. You don't have to have any talent. They're just time consuming, that's all.

Have you tried the Red Velvet? I see that she has that on her site.

Red Velvet is my all time favorite cake - but I have it with the boiled flour frosting - NOT NOT NOT cream cheese frosting - that is just wrong, lol.

That is a mute point with the cake pops thought - since you use the candy coating for those.

Have you tried the chocolate sheet cake from Pioneer Woman? Oh, and in case you didn't know -- Bakerella is publishing a book... I am soo impressed with her creations! I'm not that kind of creative to say the very least! But boy, I sure do like what she has done!
