You mentioned traveling and I found a nice diary type book about 6/8 to keep track of information. Wish I knew where I found it. Check Barnes and Noble, on line, also maybe some post card stamps if they send cards from where they are visiting, a new address book, Do they belong to AAA or Good Sam? They also have lots of ideas fro use in travel trailers.

A lot of RVer's like to decorate around their RV's. Maybe you could get him a customized bird feeder or hummingbird feeder with him and his wife's name or something.

Some people have wooden signs or plaques with their names on them.

It does sound as if they're trying not to accumulate anything more at this point. I know you're thinking along the lines of a memento, but perhaps, if they're going to be doing some RVing, a nicer idea would be, "Have a nice dinner out on us"--giving them a gift certificate to a nice restaurant (with or without a bottle of wine as appropriate in the circumstance).

If through the hard work of you and others he's able to sell a successful agency and take a year off, and as a result of which you may be losing your jobs, shouldn't it be him giving YOU a gift? An expensive one. Or a bonus?

How about a map of the US/Canada.. sticky dots to mark where they've been and some pre-addressed postcards back to you? Maybe with the travel diary..?

Marie-ndcal, his wife is really into technology so they use ipad/iphone etc. and we keep up with their many adventures via emails and facebook.
adellabedella, they are big into animals and nature. Birdfeeder might be a good idea.
azzalea, your right they might not be looking to accumulate and dinner does sound good it's just that we will more than likely give this to him at our annual Christmas dinner party, after that I really won't be seeing much of them. They are booked through the rest of the year. They only had one day open for our Christmas dinner.
snidely, I understand where your coming from, trust me. He made it very clear to purchasers that he would only entertain offers if they included me and my husband and he stuck with it. With the timing we will more than likely exchange gifts during our Christmas party (just me and my hubby and he and his wife)which will also turn into a retirement party. He has always been generous with Christmas bonus and while I have hopes for an even more generous bonus this year I wont expect it.

... quite likely they already have one of those books of maps, about a foot by a foot and a half, that includes the maps of the whole of the U.S. and Canada, as well as individual pages of states or parts of such, cities, etc.

Are you adept with fingers, parts of brain, etc. which has meant that you've developed handicraft skills to enable you to make something smallish which they could carry with them, e.g. a wall hanging, "This is the home of Elena and Harry What's- their-name" ... or something like, "We're happily retired ... but busy: spending our kids' inheritance".

Can't think of anything more relevant, at the moment.

two.25 - We're not retired, I don't have an RV, have never Rv'd, but do a search of something along the lines of 'gifts for RVs'....you'll likely come up with lots of ideas that would be appropriate for your boss's next year, something he and his wife will find reminds them of you when they use the gift...

I kind of liked the idea of folding rocking chairs. I've got a pair of sturdy canvas folding chairs (not rocking) that came in a travel case that I keep in the back of my SUV. They take up little space...

Go to camping world website and look there, we always find a lot of great stuff that we want for our RV. Good Sam membership, but they may be members already. A portable small outdoor fire pit is nice to have on RV trips especially if they are going to be going while it's chilly. Camping world has stuff like that. They also have some really nice cookers other than the normal grill type. A nice set of awning lights is something I would appreciate, there's a great set at camping world that is around $90,very high quality with coiled line between lights.

the gold card aaa is about $125, for one year...generous tow package, in case the rv gets stuck someplace...heck we've kept it even though we don't have a trailer anymore...they have a new platinum but don't know how much that is....

the card will get any of the maps, tour books ect...and there are times gps DOESN"T take the best route!

A photo album, one loaded with protector sheets. It can be a place to keep pertainent photos of their travels.

A supply of USB drives, a place to store data.

In addition to serious gifts, a gag gift may garner a smile or two. I'm thinking of something from a party store such as Bartz. We gave our boss a can of B. S. spray. It is really a an air freshener can with an altered wrapper. The wrapper carried hillariuos messages about "how and when" to use.

I'd suggest a gift certificate to a book store. Can be used for books,maps, downloads,techie stuff.

One of my favorite gifts for a person who has everything is to shop eBay or Etsy for a vintage print advertisement that reflects a particular interest of that person. Framed, they make wonderful gifts.

They don't even have to be vintage....when my son-in-law bought a very special late-model car, I found an ad for the same car--in the same color--and framed it. He loved it, and it hangs in his office.
