Just checking back in to say - GO CJ GO!!!!!!!!!!!! This little guy tugs at my heart because we went through a similar situation 2 years ago with my nephew's little girl. She is truly a miracle child. While not expected to live and to be a mental vegetable if she did, she is now at 2 far ahead of her peers. Miracles happen, we just need to believe.

If it is a fairly windy location, that's another reason to move it to a more sheltered, shady spot - JM's don't like wind either. If you have one, a spot that is sheltered from most winds, and gets afternoon or middle of the day shade, would be ideal. Try scratching lightly at several branches. If the cambium layer (the layer just under the bark) is still green, there is hope for it still to leaf out. How have you been watering, and how much, as that can also be a factor? I can't see the junction of trunk and mulch clearly, but Texasredhead is right that all trees and shrubs should be planted with the root/trunk flare at ground level - the flare is where the trunk does just that, just above the roots. It often happens that trees/shrubs are planted too deeply, which they do not like. Your JM is recently enough planted that you could lift it and replant it - IF it is buried too deeply.

Its nothing like epliepsy. Its a snorting/wheezing fit that some dogs do, sounds like they are trying to hock up a loogie over and over again. From pet place.com Reverse sneezing is a common phenomenon in dogs. In a regular sneeze, your dog pushes air out through the nose; however, in a reverse sneeze, air is pulled rapidly in through the nose. During a reverse sneeze, your dog will make rapid inspirations, stand still with his elbows spread apart, extend his head, and his eyes may bulge. He'll make a loud snorting sound, which might make you think he has something caught in his throat. Each reverse sneezing episode generally lasts for less than a minute up to two minutes. The exact reason for these episodes is unknown but may be related to allergies, nasal irritants or nasal inflammation. A reverse sneeze may look disturbing  many people fear that their dog is not breathing during these episodes  but it is not a harmful condition and there are no ill effects. Reverse sneezing attacks are generally quite brief and not life threatening. An episode can be stopped if the dog is stimulated to swallow by either massaging the throat or briefly pinching off the nasal openings. Some dogs have reverse sneezing episodes so frequently that various medications may be needed to reduce their frequency.

Hypoglycemic seizures are also a possibility. They are caused by plummeting blood sugar levels. My old (16+) girl is going through this. The probably diagnosis is pancreatic cancer, but we are not pursuing any additional tests for her, since she's got some other health issues, and has lived a long and happy life. We've been able to manage her condition extremely well by feeding her small meals (canned dog food mixed with cooked brown rice) every 4 hours. We've modified the overnight feeding so that she now eats at midnight and 6AM, so we are all sleeping a bit better :o) She thinks that eating 6 times a day is just BRILLIANT! The complex carb (brown rice) is designed to give her some steady fuel to burn, to avoid blood sugar peaks and valleys. Seems to be working well so far. I thought of the possibility that the seizures might be blood-sugar rather than brain-based when you said that the first seizure occurred in the early morning. I had noticed that my girl was starting to seize often as I was preparing breakfast, and realized that she probably needed something to carry her from her normal 6PM feed through the night. Since we've added the late-night meal and the early-morning feed, she has not displayed any morning symptoms. If the seizures are related to blood sugar levels (and not "brain" epilepsy), you will probably be able to bring her out of it if you feed her a little Karo syrup before the seizure progresses too far, before she is not able to swallow anything. This has worked really well for us, but you do have to catch it early. I work from home, which lets me keep a close eye on her for brow twitching and head shaking - her signals that a seizure is starting. My friend who has a diabetic brother recommended using a tube of white cake icing instead of the Karo syrup. The icing is much easier to squirt into her mouth, and MUCH less sticky and messy than the Karo syrup. Hope this helps. Susan
