Just cancelled Netflix

I knew about the new increases and people's unhappiness, but just didn't act. I really don't want to stream on my computer, either. Got my bill today and went from 18.00 to 25.00. We don't use it that much, anyway, and can rent at the store if I really want to see something.

I dropped the DVD-by-mail option, which didn't make me unhappy at all, and kept the streaming (on my TV) for $7.99. I've been sick since Wednesday.......that's when I really appreciate a TV set. Netflix streaming is all I use it for.

That looks good for detailed info on popular sites. I have also found the site "downforeveryoneorjustme" useful when I try to visit an unfamiliar site (or any site for that matter) and nothing comes up. It lets you figure out whether it's your browser/computer or a wider problem that is out of your control, and it can be used with any web site by simply entering the web address. I worked in the insurance industry (NOT homeowners at all) for 30 years. Here is what I would do: Stop calling insurance companies. Get a recommendation for a reputable local INSURANCE BROKER (broker - not agent - that means they can use any insurance company for you). Ask them to find insurance for you. Brokers will have relationships with many different insurance companies, will already know which ones will insure what kinds of homes, etc. We have a Queen Anne Victorian built in 1905, in CA near earthquake faults, 6 feet above sea level and six blocks from SF Bay. We have homeowners, flood insurance (NOT from the Govt - that is awful - got much better coverage from our homeowners carrier), and EQ insurance. (As I was an underwriter for 30 years, and my job was to imagine the worst things that might possibly happen, I totally believe in insurance). Turned out well when we had a fire started in a chimney - they re-built the chimney from the foundation up, repainted and carpeted all of one entire story (even though only one room was damaged), and had a carpenter working in that one room for weeks manufacturing knives to reproduce the original floor and crown molding. In the damaged room, they were going to reproduce the original lath and plaster walls. Or, they said they could use sheet rock and pay us CASH for the cost savings. We went for that, and got a check for over $10,000. The construction was wonderful (they had to repair the roof, and entirely re-build a turret). When we told them we were OK with leaving the hardwood floors alone in the damaged room instead of replacing them (because the floors were not very damaged, and were being carpeted over), they handed us another check for over $10,000! I have a Lab magazine subscription that was gifted to me, but other than that, I don't subscribe to anything. A little over a year ago I get this People's Style magazine in the mail as a "Courtesy Copy" to try. It's totally not my thing so I gave that one to my daughter, she didn't care for it so I emailed and said thanks but no thanks. Regardless of me repeated requests to stop sending them, they won't stop sending this stupid magazine to me. Now, I'm getting renewal notices for it. I've never paid a dime (made sure of that), I've NEVER subscribed, I don't want them!! I just keep donating them to the doctors offices I service but how ridiculous is that? I know it's not a magazine, but buyer beware of Angie's list as well. I subscribed for a year's subscription a few years back and when the "auto renewal" hit my card without any warning, I called, cancelled and insisted on a refund. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago. I get an email from Angie's list outlining some changes to the renewed subscription. I was kind of confused as to why I'd get that so I checked and sure enough they hadn't canceled the subscription as promised and had charged us for 2 add'l years. I seem to remember checking to make sure the refund went through too. I was angry and told them I wanted a refund. Even though I had canceled and the account hadn't been logged into for over 2 years they would not refund more than the most current renewal. I will never ever use Angie's List again.

Never had it. We get most of our DVD's from our library. (We can give them a nice check every year out of the savings!)

I went from 3 to 2 DVDs at a time, after they increased my bill to $25-something a month last week.

I still have it - streaming and DVD. I just love the convenience of always having movies at my fingertips. I keep getting the DVDs since there are a lot of movies I want to watch that aren't yet available streaming. It's a lot of convenient entertainment for less than $20 a month.

We love it too. We changed from 3 DVDs to 1 DVD and unlimited streaming, which we use constantly. We weren't using the DVDs much, and I wanted to change to 1 DVD anyway. It turned out a little cheaper this way for us.

If some of you folks are gregarious ...

... and have friends with similar tastes ...

... how about inviting friends over for a movie night ...

... and, after a few such successful evenings ...

... suggest that you share the fee for the service?

We have a pizza and movie night at church on first Sat. evening of the month, a $5.00 fee covers the pizza, and the movie is free, so we avoid getting into trouble for charging to show them (I think).

I found I wasn't getting my money's worth. I do get movies from the library, for free, but for movies at my fingertips, I rely on Amazon.com and iTunes for movie rentals, then attach my laptop to my television with an HDMI cable and stream to the television.

I do think that Netflix can be a great deal, though, depending on what and how much you watch.

Never had it. I use Redbox. $1 Can't beat it. My son gets Netflix.

Streaming Netflix uses a computer, usually with a wireless router, hooked up to a net-ready device, be it a DVD player, the TV itself, a Roku box or a game machine. You download the movie to watch without using a DVD.

I live in the middle of no where, the nearest place to get a movie, is 60 some miles. I will keep my netflix.
