Three weeks ago today

Our vet came to our house and put Jake down. We wrapped her(yes, Jake was a female) in a comforter and put her in a large box. Two men that work for DH dug her grave. She was buried on our property. We miss her terribly. 14 years ago a family of renters left her when they moved in the middle of the night. We took her to the vet. She had heart worms, flees and ticks. She stayed at the vet's hospital for several days for treatments. The vet thought she had been abused. With both DDs grown and gone, Jake became our baby. Life just isn't the same without her. Here she is just a few months before she died and another picture of her grave.

My heart aches for you, I've felt the pain and it is never easy! Thank you for giving Jake a wonderful home, you need to be proud of how happy you made her for the rest of her life!

So sorry. What a beautiful picture. It sounds like she was very lucky to have been abandoned. It lead to a much better life. Maybe one day you will save another dog. She has such a pretty and friendly face.

Thanks everyone for your complements. I really appreciate them. Mike, yes I'm growing those moonflowers! They're still pretty small, and I'm hoping to see at least one flower before the frost comes. They usually don't bloom for me at least until mid-August or even September. Like you once said, plants are healing creatures. I know she would have loved the hoyas! Carnosa is the plant with the greatest sentiment since it's the one I started with. It hasn't bloomed yet, but I'm hoping it will soon. Brad AKA Moonwolf

Thanks. They are definitely dead. Some were so hard to remove that they broke in half. I found out that this is caused by a fungus. See the fly on the left of the new image attached. Hi...I am so sorry for you. This is a terrible thing for anyone to have to go through, and you're just beginning to grieve. My name is Susan and I'm a teacher, too. 3 1/2 years ago, my son and granddaughter died. I have to tell you that my healing really began when I went back to school. Our tragedy happened at the beginning of summer break, and I spent that whole summer in a fog. I'm not sure what went on...I was busy putting one foot in front of the other. I only remember that I made cookies for another grieving family and made pickles and jelly. But once I got back to school in the fall, my healing seemed to begin. I wasn't even sure I could work with little kids anymore, because Millie was 6 when she died, but I found that not only could I, but I had something to do that kept my mind occupied for minutes and then hours at a time. Also, I think since I work with mostly women, I found great comfort and support from my colleagues. I wouldn't have been able to cope nearly as well without my job and my friends. I hope you'll find this the case, too. You're in my thoughts and prayers...again, I'm so sorry.

I lost my Dad 27 years ago. I found out I was pregnant with my daughter Amanda the next day. I was the closest to my Dad. Oh how he would have loved her! And she would have adored him. She has heard so many stories about him over the years I think she truly feels like she knows him. My Mom died in my arms 15 years ago. It was the single hardest thing I have ever had to endure. I can say now that I think I was truly traumatized. We were very close. I was the only one of 6 kids that didn't move away. We only lived about 2 miles apart. We talked or saw each other every single day. I miss her so much still that it can be a physical ache. We do understand your pain Laura. Only time eases this hole in your heart pain. We are all here for each other. I'm sorry for your loss.

What a cute dog. She was lucky to have a good owner just like you were lucky to have found her. I'm sure she's enjoying life now over the Rainbow Bridge.

It is tough that our pets only have a few years with us and so sad when they pass. You were as important to her as she was to you, your beautiful memorial will be a reminder of your friendship. ((hugs))

I'm so sorry. I had to take my Smokey to the vet to have him put down--it's only about 3-4 miles from here but that was the longest drive home. I'm glad you have a place to still visit with her.

What a sweet face she has. Losing a fur baby is the toughest thing. They love us uncondionally, and just live to make us smile. I'm so glad you found each other. Thanks for making her life better.

Our Yorkie celebrated his 14th birthday last Sunday, and we know his days are numbered. We are thankful each day that we have a little more time with our baby...and when he goes, we will cherish the wonderful memories we have made together.

Ronnie, I've thought about you many times since you last posted to tell us you were going to have to put her down. She was a beautiful dog and once the sadness eases some she will be a beautiful memory that will last a lifetime.

Thank you for giving her a loving home for all those years. The world is a better place because of caring people like you.

Welcome back Ronnie.
I'm sure you know we've been thinking of you and sending you our good thoughts and wishes and cyber-hugs.

Most of us have fur-babies, and have gone through what your family has at one time or another, so we really feel your pain and sorrow.

She knew you loved her, and gave her all. Thank heavens you were there, and you are the person you are, when she was abandoned. She got the best life she could have imagined with you and your family.

The love you gave her had to be huge -I've been told it's rare for heart worm infected dog to live for such a long time.

Your heart ache will last a long time, but as Jannie said, rescuing another would honor her.
