I also use very little mayo, as I don't care for it. I add chopped celery, red onion, sweet pickles; pepper; a little sweet pickle juice.

Mayo, hardboiled egg, celery, onion, sweet pickle relish, S&P, and a good tuna. I far prefer the tuna in the vacuum packed packages, rather than canned. If you do use canned, it must be drained very well.

I've seen mayo free recipes, though.

I make mine like Rhizo_1, but I add a little lemon zest or juice and don't add any salt. If I don't have a lemon handy, I will add a little yellow mustard.

I don't like mayo that much either, so I use a little and let the pickle relish and its juices moisten the tuna well. DH doesn't like the celery, but I do.

Dump two cans of tuna packed in oil into the bowl. Toss two heels of whole wheat or hearty grain bread into the food processor and "pulse" into coarse bread crumbs. Mix into the tuna. Mom always made it this way, probably to stretch how far the tuna would go, and I still do it to this day. Add some chopped celery and chopped dill pickle. Add seasoning salt, fresh cracked pepper and about an eighth of a tsp of dry mustard powder. Add mayo a little at a time, just enough to bind it. Mix well and refrigerate until well chilled.
Dang ~ now I want a tuna sandwich!

good tuna.preferably packed in oil, I let the oil be part of the dressing..it has a much better flavor...and if it is packed in oil, drained well then I just use a little vinegar instead of all the mayo
I like to add dried cranberries and sometimes I add nuts, walnuts or pecans if I don't have walnuts...

I don't always make it exactly the same way..

Tuna, celery, onion, pickle, jalapeño, lemon juice, olive oil, 1 wedge of laughing cow cheese, salt and pepper. Mix it all up! Works great as sandwich filling or in lettuce cups.

My usual version uses mayo, sweet pickle relish, green onions, celery, a little dill pickle relish, rosemary, oregano & basil & pepper.

I make a Thai version that uses mayo, soy or fish sauce, lime juice, shredded carrots, celery, green onions, cilantro, fresh basil & red pepper flakes.

my favorite way is to make "clean out the fridge" tuna salad.

Using shredded cheese, celery, olives, radishes, cucumber, shredded carrots...any left over fresh salad veggies that's in my freezer with pickle relish, a dab of mustard, minced onion, fresh ground pepper.

Especially good with crackers.

We love tuna salad here at my house.
2 cans tuna drained oil or water packed
3 hard boiled eggs chopped
2-3 sweet pickles chopped
mayo or miracle whip
1 stalk of celery small chopped
salt and pepper to taste
Mix them together and chill for about an hour or longer.
Serve on white toast or pumpernickel bread

You asked for how to make it for sandwiches. We make hot "tuna melts" and love them. You need buns, swiss cheese (two slices per bun), tuna, onion, parsley, some celery salt and mayo. Mix the tuna, onion, parsley,celery salt and mayo. Put one slice of swiss cheese on bun, then some tuna mixture, top with the other piece of cheese and top of the bun. Put in the oven at 350 just long enough for the cheese to melt. Keep watching, as you don't want the buns to burn on top.

Gosh, mine is really simple compared to all the above. Tuna, my own that I've canned, I cannot remember that last time I bought a can of tuna, it may have been sometime in the 80's. I raw pack, and can't think of any commercial brands that do not cook the fish, then can and cook again.

Tuna, mayo, salt and pepper, and a couple of spoonfuls of the liquid from a jar of dill pickles. If there is no jar of dill pickles and that's rarely the case, a pinch of dried dill. That's it. I like it with a bit of chopped red onion, or celery, but DH has this thing about the crunch of raw celery so I never include it. He likes his onions cooked too :)

I like to eat my tuna salad with Wheat Thin crackers more than with bread.

I make it like mom did and we love it. So many people that try it are converts.

Drained tuna
4-6 chopped hard boiled eggs
kraft mayo
French's mustard
diced salad olives
diced DILL pickles or dill pickle relish
I use several tablespoons of each of the above ingredients
I always use 2 of the large size cans of quality tuna drained well.
Season it with a dash of Tonys seasoning, a little sea salt, and pepper or Cavenders seasoning.
I don't use anything sweet at all. That's it no other ingredients ever.
Love a sandwich of it on super soft white bread.
Occasionally I have been known to put crushed potato chips on my sandwich but never in the mix.
I do like it on crackers too but much prefer the sandwich.

I dont make it anymore. I buy a 12oz carton of ready made at the Deli in WalMart. It is delicious and I can get about 4 nice sandwichs out of it, They also have a chickrn and a ham salad. I think it is around 3.68

I use 1 can of tuna packed in water & a small one in olive oil, for extra flavor. To the well drained tuna, I add 1 hard boiled egg- diced, thinly diced onion, 2-3 stalks of celery-thinly sliced-not diced; mayo, a little yellow mustard, salt & pepper and frozen green peas-steamed until just done, then drained & cooled and add to the salad.

Mine is:

Albacore tuna in water (drained well)
Mayo
homemade balsamic vinaigrette
capers
a small amount of curry powder (optional)

Drain the tuna, separate it with a fork, add a little Miracle Whip (yep I prefer MW to mayo) and just a few sliced olives. It's my Mom's recipe from the 50's. Hubby likes it with mayo and chopped celery.
