I often put canned tuna into a tossed salad (various greens, scallions, cukes, tomatoes, olives, whatever) and dress it with one of my homemade olive oil-based dressings or do this:

Sprinkle salad with Lawry's Seasoned Salt and freshly ground pepper. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over it. Drizzle olive oil over that. Toss. That's it. I love that salad. It's also good with canned salmon instead of tuna. Or cooked chicken or steak.

I don't like mayo. I use just a smidgen in my tuna salad. About half a teaspoon to a single serve can or packet.

I make my tuna salad with various relishes. I use hamburger relish instead of pickle relish and sometimes both. Sweet pepper relish is good too. The secret is to take a fork and really shred the tuna so is is fine and mixes well with the other stuff. If you like olives that adds an "oil" that helps blend it also. Or just add a bit of butter.

I like tuna contrasted with lots of fresh crisp veggies. I practically build a salad on top of my tuna that I spread on a hoagie style roll unless I'm making a melt.

I need to check and see if that is my old Weight Watchers recipe I have without mayo.

What is the issue you have with mayo? Is it the eggs? The oil? Something with the fillers or preservatives that store bought mayo has?

You can to go to the health food store and buy "eggless mayo" or 'oil free mayo' to use if that is the ingredient you wish to avoid. It won't taste exactly the same but may work for your needs. If the issue is the additives that store bought mayo has, you can make your own. It is a bit tricky to make (IMHO) and won't last for a long time in the refrigerator, but is healthier.

Otherwise you can subtitute mustard for making tuna salad. Even better using mustard with a bit of Greek style yogurt.

This may be completely irrelevant, as I'm not sure of the mayo-avoidance reasoning, but if it's to avoid egg/dairy, I do have a recommendation.

Vegenaise is a vegan mayo that actually tastes remarkably like regular mayo, but quite a bit healthier. This is the only brand I like. You can find it in the refrigerator section.

I also mix tuna with plain yogurt. Tastes very good that way. I won't eat mayo because the low-fat versions (ie. Miracle Whip Free) have terrible ingredients like hydrogenated corn oil, and the full-fat ones are, well, full of fat!

Mediterranean tuna salad

Ingredients

2 (5 ounce) cans tuna, drained
1 roma tomato, chopped
1/4 cup Kalamata olives, halved
2 teaspoons capers (optional)
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon basil pesto
Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions
Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and stir gently to combine. Chill for several hours before serving.

bet you could substitute italian dressing for the lemon juice and olive oil YUMMMMM

I buy tuna packed in olive oil because it is so much more flavorful and I drain off as much as I can and what ever is left, I use as the dressing...I just add mustard, vinegar, whatever I feel like adding......

I have used mustard instead of mayo. Sounds weird I know but it's good.

Hamburger relish is tomato based and is also known as "red relish". Pickle relish is sweet pickles in a sweetened vinegar base. Hotdog relish is pickle relish with mustard added in. At least that is how the main commercial ones sold here are. It differs from region to region. If you live in an area where real "red relish" is available you are lucky. The closest my grocery store carries is Del Monte Hamburger Relish.

I don't know exactly what component of mayo is to blame--the eggs or the oil or who knows what--and I have been using it all my life from childhood, but in the past couple of years, my digestive system just can't seem to handle it very well. Even drastically reducing the amount doesn't help much. So that's why I'm looking for an alternative.
