Ipad ??

Does anyone have one? My hairdresser was showing me hers the other day and I loved it. I think that's what I want for Christmas :) Just wanted to know what those who have one think of it.

I would LOVE to have one, but they are expensive !( I am trying to justify buying a Kindle today, LOL )
From what I have seen they sure look like they would be great to own, I would love to see one in person !

Lavon I wasn't interested in one until I saw it and it is awesome. Did you know you can download and read books on it?

$500 is definitely NOT a good price on the mini. QVC's prices on all Apple products are always bad, and always seem to be sold in a bundle so you might not realize how much extra you're truly paying. You can do better ANYWHERE else. The price of that mini is around $300 and you can buy it online from Apple dot com and have it in a week. A good case is in the $25-50 range, many decent ones even less. The device comes with earplugs and charger included. Most discount stores sell Apple products at the exact same price since Apple does not allow discounts, but sometimes you can get like a $25-50 Gift Card thrown in at Target, Best Buy or WalMart. Another option is to buy a refurbished one....FROM APPLE only...and they carry the same warranty as a new one. I've bought MANY,MANY Apple devices from their refurbished line. Though I've never had a problem, I would still only buy refurbished directly from Apple; nowhere else.

That's quite an interesting story. An OS update to close a previously unknown backdoor software flaw that a clever software company had discovered and exploited by developing a surveillance product sold to governments and law enforcement agencies. With all the corrupt governments in the world, there was nothing to prevent such a capability from being misused but all the same, it's to be expected in one form or another. And quite impressive. So in this case, the update is really for Apple, to limit its embarrassment and potential legal liability for its shoddy work. I'm not an Apple fanboy or trash talker - neither - but there have been a series of incidents to knock big chunks out of its wall of arrogance. Remember a few years back when a criminal's iPhone had been obtained by police following a mass shooting incident that appeared to have maybe had a terrorist flavor to it ? Law enforcement, maybe it was the FBI, asked Apple to provide access to find if there were others involved in the plot. Apple refused, claiming only they could access the device but they wouldn't do so out of its policy to respect customer privacy. The cops said fine, we'll go elsewhere, and a private contractor was able to provide access in a few days. It's not schadenfreude on my part but I think reality is that all IT systems and devices can ultimately be vulnerable and for any one provider to falsely suggest that its products are somehow different and above the fray, as Apple often does, is tiresome.

sjerin - how old is your iPad? I won mine in 2014 and I don't have that particular problem. I do update but I've never cleared any history. There are times when i can't post a photo on this site but that's usually a Houzz issue. I'm getting a new iPad as soon as I figure out which one and then I'll leave my old one at our other house.

If you’re looking for a used ipad mini, I think the ipad mini 4 was the last one with a nice amount of storage (128 GB)…afterwards they chopped it by about half. (so maybe you’d have to buy apple icloud? 🤔). I have the mini 4 (I bought it in 2019 but I think they came out in 2013 ?)

YES ! I know if I see one, I will want it ! But....my husband is coming home today, and on his way in he is going to go to Best Buys and "probably" get me a Kindle and I am excited about that !
My nephew was here recently with a touch screen IPhone and it was amazing too.
So many new things...its mind boggling. I saw on the morning news that Sony is revealing a NEW TV with Internet access tomorrow, and they said it will change the way you watch TV forever !

NO...i'm, anti-APPLE. They are an anti handicap-friendly company. Every device needs fine motor skills.

i'd like an Ipad but only because i collect tech gadgets. i'm thinking of a Kindle but really enjoy collecting books so i wouldn't use it much but for travel i would. only issue w/ that is we now have a large collection of tech gadgets (netbook, laptop, camera w/ 4 lens, MP3's, GPS) for traveling i almost hate to get one more thing that needs charging :-/ my DH is extremely anti-apple and he's my tech-god so if i needed help i'd be S.O.L. we have a friend who always needs puter help and never pays DH, she just got a macbook and he couldn't be happier LOL he can't help her one bit!

lavon, many LED tv's now do get internet. i got a Vizio LED last fall and have internet on it, I know Samsung does also. ~ liz

Reading this post on one! Bought it the day they came out. Absolutely love it. I can do just about anything with cats on my lap. Have about 400 books on it. Making a digital scrapbook and organising my photo collection with an app called iAlbum. Will keep my music on my iTouch for portability. Movies are also on my iTouch. My computers are PC's.

my boss bought some for our department. I tried it and wasn't overly impressed. sure it is light-weight and easy to carry around but it is hard to type on. If you are a "one finger" typist it's great. Also it takes forever to recharge the battery. I would rather spend the $800 on something better myself.

You can't read a book on an iPad outside in the sun.

But you can on a Kindle. :-)

True but there is so much more you can do with an iPad. A kindle is really just an eReader. The iPad charges quickly in a power outlet, rather than the computer USB.
