Good luck. You have overcome a big hurdle. My sister had her transplant in 2000. There were some scares in the beginning and she has survived many crises. Stay positive. Getting off dialysis was a huge life improvement.

Thinking of both of you with prayers that both of you will soon have new kidney gifts.

Im waiting still to see who matchs who dont,they told me when I was there last they put a guy on the list he got one that nite..imagine.

Thanks for all the good wishes. I'm so excited now, today at dialysis I felt completely different, knowing there is an end point. I won't be on dialysis forever. thanks again for your thoughts and prayers. Wouldn't it be great if Dink and I got our close together?

Jannie and Bulldinkie, may I ask what registry you are on? Is there just one? I was wondering how it works with so many people needing kidneys and not enough available. You ask friends and family first and if that doesn't work, then go to the registry?

My friend will be seeing a new kidney doctor next week but knows she will be needing a transplant.

I'm actually on three registries. I am on the New York State list, the National "perfect match" list, and on the Donors over 50 list . There are all sorts of rules about the lists. You can only be on one state list. Some state lists move faster than others. The surgeons who do the actual transplants have final say. My surgeon is very picky. I was told, for example, he might get one kidney available and chose to give it to a 70 year old woman over me (at 58) because he thinks the kidney will only last 5 years. He'd chose to wait for a "better" kidney for me. It's all very complicated and mysterious.

One more thing about transplants- the best outcomes are from from family member donors, then any live compatible person, and finally from a cadaveric donor. Mine will be from the third caegory. My brother was willing to donate but our blood types are not compatible. A niece of mine got a whole liver transplant from a cadaver and she's doing pretty well two years later.She's on very low doses ofg anti-rejection medications, lives alone and does some babysitting for extra money.

I know the feeling ,end in sght for dialysis,My daughter is taking off work for awhile to help m,e too,I too have a room ready,call us will you??It will be some nite we least expect..They sure do take thier time with testing & all.
