I realize that kidneys come from living donors, but I read that the parents of the poor children killed in the Ohio school shootings donated their organs. It seemed to give them great comfort. What an amazing gift.

Glad everything is working out for you. I am hoping a kidney for Bulldinkie comes along soon as she has had some disappointments. Must be so hard to have your hopes dashed.

Jannie, glad to hear the stent is out. Your body has been through a major change, and I imagine results of the tests you will have over the next months will change as your body adjusts to its new "component." Making a few dietary changes is nothing compared to dialysis, right? Keep up the good work taking care of yourself. I know you are happy.

jannie be prepared on the most boring diet in the world...all the yummy things are no no's...the hardest for me are potatoes, so i do indulge, but only once in a while...fruit is another to watch...potassium is in tons of it...dh and i both crave grapefruit but havn't had either in sigh, 5 years! your statin drugs are to blame...

but as you say it's sure worth it in the long run! i got into trouble when i had my hystro and got too dehydrated...but now my tests are great...and i love my kidney dr!

Susan, I didn't know you are a transplant recipient also. What a wonderful thing modern medicine is. It just makes me wonder what more can be achieved. Glad to hear it's going so well for you too.

The head nurse there (the transplant clinic) is very easy to talk to. She assured me that my erratic blood tests and blood pressure are "Normal". It's been 6 weeks since the surgery. I feel great, back to driving and most of my normal activities, so watching my diet is just a minor inconvenience. I didn't know Susan was also a transplant recipient. I do hope Bulldinkie gets a kidney soon.

Bulldinkie just posted on the conversation side on the Cooking Forum that everyone that has offered a kidney has backed out or wanted a huge amount of money for one.

Try to stay away from processed foods like boxed rices,etc to help with cholestrol - oatmeal, apples, and whole grains for great for helping to lower cholestrol. Nuts too if not salted. I take the generic for Zorcor - Simavastatin. Although I don't like the way it makes me feel, it does work, along with the diet and excerise.

Jannie, I don't know anyone personally who has gotten a kidney transplant, but I do know someone who is waiting, and has been for a long time.

About Bulldinkie, from what I have read in her posts, she is trying on her own to find a donor, and of course that is not going to work. I hope someone will convince her not to do that, since it only ends in disappointment for her.

Good news indeed. I think your levels will even out eventually. I would urge you to just eat as well as you can and drink some water throughout the day. We used to soak potatoes in water for a couple of hours before making mashed potatoes to cut down on potassium. Also, are you a cola drinker?
