After my test on Mon., I had a message saying 1/2 pill Mon., no pill Tues., 1/2 pill Wed, test Thurs. morn ...

... then another message that said no pill Mon, 1/2 pill Tues, no pill Wed., test Thurs. morning - and both said that I should stop taking the two needles per day. I had needles enough to last until about Tues.

After test Thurs. they tried to leave message, machine full, contacted haematology Fri morn, said med a bit low, to take one pill daily 4 days Fri - Mon., test next Tues. morn.

I've not felt any shortness of breath or discomfort or pain at all, as I go about my daily activities.

I've done a little more walking than usual, lately, but haven't tried to keep up the 1/2 hour walk, but the instruction was to do it for 2 weeks, that ended two weeks ago Thurs. (and I was to go back to wearing the knee-length pressure stockings on both legs, then, too).

When I called the doctor at the vein clinic, she said that we should cancel the later treatments, as they were something like a matter of convenience, but the embolism business is a matter of life and death.

The vein clinic called me yesterday (Friday) to remind me of appointment Tues ... so I called and they checked with the doc ... she says to cancel the Oct. appointment and the December one, as well, but to come in for the Nov. appointment as she wants to talk to me.

The haematology doc told me on the first Tuesday, just after the pains, that, untreated, one could expect another embolism within a month about 50% of the time ...

... and that in about 25% of such experiences, the result would be fatal.

I'm planning (hoping?) to go on living for a while, yet.

Too bull-headed to plan on an early departure?

Oh - sometimes such lifestyle choices may have a tendency to result in a somewhat earlier departure, you say?

OJ ~ Since I haven't been posting a whole lot over the past few years, I'm not sure what you are going through... but rest assured that I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers for healing. I'm a heart attack survivor... so can empathize with you a bit.

Thanks for the ray of sunshine, there, survivor.

I was awakened early Sunday morning a couple of weeks ago with pain when I took more than a very shallow breath, but no pain when my body was upright, for some time.

Visited emergency room of local hosp. that day, back on Mon., to haematology on Tues, they gave me a shot daily, then I was to give myself a couple daily for about a week and start taking Warfarin pills.

Visiting nurse said that the farmers especially give him a lot of trouble about starting to take the rat poison.

I've said that I hear (no official sanction) that if I take it for less than two years, I can avoid starting to resemble a rat ... and one of the posters over on the "Heal quickly, ole joyful" thread, where there's a longer discussion of the situation, said that her Dad has taken rat poison for about 5 years ... and there's no sign of sprouting a tail - as of that date, at least.

I've had no shortness of breath or discomfort, let alone pain, after that first evening in the hosp.

A very thankful person, I am. As I have been for a long time, having seldom heard my body say to me, "Listen, you darned old fool - you can't do that any more!"

Yes, joyful guy, you have a lot to be joyful for but don't push it too hard. My son keeps preaching the same thing to me all the time too.

I was very fortunate 3.5 years ago when I had the atrial fibrilation start up. Apparently I was very close to a stroke. Anyway, I beat that too, with the wonderful assistance of the cardiologist team at the hospital. He has been checking me ever since. I'm still on warfarin. I have no pain there either. Probably always will be on it and so far, I don't see any extra appendages unless you want to say that I sprouted 2 ears when I got the hearing aids.

I've been taking it somewhat easier - a lot of weeds needed pulling, but I've almost totally ignored them.

Did you note my message on the veggies (2 zucchini there) at church last week, about 9 things available ... but still in the garden, for various reasons, to call me for U-pic or arrangements.

Another test yestyerday, they figure that they're getting me straightened out, not another test for more than a week, 1/2 pill for three days and a pill a day for 5 days.

Pulled a bunch of weeds in the garden today, pulled a few carrots and beets.

Going to an investment meeting tonight, where a group from a company makes a presentation.

Everything is going well.

Even more thankful than earlier to be alive and able to do most anything that I choose. With some care exercised.

Did they instruct you not to sit with your legs crossed?
I have to wear those prescription support stocking, and although they are ugly, they really help my legs.
Walking should be high on your list of things to do...to keep the blood flowing freely.
Take good care of yourself....flex your calf muscles often when sitting and drink enough water.
(Can you tell I am a retired RN?) LOL

Ultrasound of my left leg to see whether the lung clot may have originated there.

Picked some squash today, carried in a milk crate to the barn, found that I was puffing some on arrival.

I'm wondering whether that was more than it would have been, earlier ... but I've found earlier that if I run any distance at all, that I am soon puffing rather hard.

We have a feeling that our family has some weakness of lungs - Dad had bronchitis and was on his way to asthma in his mid-40s and moved to the prairies. He had 40 years of good health, out there.

I have nephew that had breathing troubles in this humid area near the Great Lakes in southern Ontario and his family moved to Edmonton about 40 years ago, largely because of that.

I used to have a terrible amount of allergies and moved to Calgary for 5 years. While there, I had very, very little allergy problems. Since coming back, more than 20 years ago, I have had little problem until the last couple of years but have been taking antihistamine the last 2 years as well, and it has kept them mainly under control. I took shots for many, many years before going to Calgary. My mothers family had a history of weak lungs, too. Last winter was the first year that I can remember since a very young child of not having bronchitis or pneumonia. A nice change.

Ole joyful, when do you have your ultra sound, or have you had it. Please, please ask your Dr. how active you can be. I've seen you running to the car, too. How do you do that at our age?

You don't want a piece of this clot breaking off and moving to your heart or brain. Believe me, it can happen. I told you about my father. I'd terribly hate to see that happen to you.

I'm with ivamae. I know it's so hard to slow down when you don't wanna or don't have help, but I think you've got to find a way if you've still got the clots, OJ. In any case, get thoroughly checked out before you run any foot races, ok??

What had me puffing the other day was carrying a milk box of rather small squash from the garden a couple of hundred feet to the barn.

I had the ultrasound last Wed., made the message above on Thurs.

I'm to have another test and am to see my own doc tomorrow.

I'm holding good thoughts for you, OJ. Are you being a good boy? Not walking to the library, I hope. Perhaps it's good that the weather is turning--it'll keep you indoors. Well, perhaps even that won't keep you sitting. :)

My, you are prolific when you get on the computer! I sometimes have a deja vu feeling when I start reading a post, then realize that it's pretty old and you've brought it back. It's kinda fun to see it gain a second life.

"Talkative", is the word, I think (or "garrulous") ... or something. (Let's not use the "busy-body" word, shall we?)!

It's interesting to have a number of (mostly good) memories. And be able to share them - one hopes in a manner that the hearer finds interesting.

One thing about putting a message on the internet ... if the reader finds the message boring, it's easier to disconnect than when one is listening, face to face ... or is that, mouth-to-ear?

I'm thankful that, after walking a few hundred feet from the emergency dept. on the first evening, I have had no pain or discomfort to speak of.

I'm mindful of the visiting nurse's statement that " ... you are a very lucky man!".

I'm so very happy to see that you are feeling brand-spanking new, or as close to that as you can reasonably come. You received good care and did as you were told--good for you. So, you're chatty in "real life" too? Since you have such a good memory, have you thought about writing your life stories for your family and/or friends? I'll bet you would be good at that!
