Blue Bell Ice Cream - Yummy!!

I just bought Blue Bell ice cream. The flavor was "Southern Hospitality" and it was the winner of a new flavor contest. It suited my taste buds just right. Big chunks of pineapple, pecans and strawberry swirl. What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Blue Bell Coffee. Hands down. I've tried other brands of coffee, including starbucks. None comes close.

"I love Blue Bell. And I understand the demands of business. But they always billed themselves as such a wonderful place to work and family atmosphere. I was disappointed that they laid off some of their employees after their disaster." I don't think they had a choice. If they had kept the employees, they would have gone bankrupt without any money coming in and the employees would have permanently have lost their jobs. By laying the employees off and fixing the problems, the employees have a job to come back to. I've never seen the full explanation of the contamination. I don't think the company was trying to hide it. It was all just a no win situation. I suspect, the company probably had to replace a lot of specialized equipment and that has caused the time delay in hiring employees back. Hopefully, the problems are fully fixed. The company can go back to being the wonderful company that they were.

Any time, anywhere. I don't particularly care for walnuts. Otherwise, if it's cold and in the ice cream counter, bring it on. Dairy Queen, that works., Wendy's frosty, can make do. I haven't bought any lately because fat. We also get the buy 2 get 3 free offers, and I have a big freezer. :) Too much temptation. DH is pining for mint chocolate chip, I may have to give in. I think it's on special this week. OMG, the chocolate black cherry. Be right back, gotta run to the store ....

The very best peach ice-cream I've ever had in my life was when I was about 6-7. My oldest childhood friend invited me to go with her to her grandparent's lot they owned on Lake Lotawana outside Kansas City. They hoped to build a cabin on it one day - don't think they ever did. They had a concrete platform with a big picnic table. Her grandmother brought fresh peaches, juicy and ripe, and an ice cream maker from home. The men took turns turning the handle - no electricity out there and I don't know if there even were electric ice cream makers at that time (this would have been in the late 1940's). Oh my! It was so cold and creamy and rich and delicious! I've never had peach ice cream since that tasted as good.

Tillamook is a new offering in my local chain grocers. There have been promotions at half price -- and BOGO's. I think Ben & Jerry's is higher quality at about $4 a pint. Tillamook is $7 for 1.5 gallons. Ice cream gurus say to dish up ice cream and let it sit a few minutes so that your tongue can appreciate the flavors.. Try that with Tillamook, and you'll get a watery 'soup'. The B & J will turn to cream. Tillamook has done several things here. It is easy to scoop, and you can taste the flavors right away. Instant gratification! The bigger cartons make it look like a bargain. (It is better than the even more heavily aerated, huge carton store brands that weigh almost nothing.)

Peach, no doubt about it. Everytime I go to Wal-Mart I have to fight the devil to NOT buy it b/c I could eat the whole thing. I also love their Homemade Vanilla and keep it here for the grands to make malts with, but I swear I have to really do some fast talking to myself to NOT buy that peach. YUMMO!

Blue Bell Fruit Special is really the only kind of ice cream I like enough to eat it any time, but they have discontinued it, but they had it back for a little while this past summer.

Blue Bell is our favorite! We don't really have a favorite flavor. We buy four or five cartons when it is on sale. Albertson's has it on sale this week, by the way.

Unfortunately, Blue Bell isn't sold anywhere near my part of the country... just looked on their website :-(

We always buy Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla, it's their best selling flavor and my son's favorite. I was very surprised when I saw Cooks Illustrated rate different vanilla ice creams and they rated it low, saying it was too sweet.

I'm not crazy about Blue Bell. I think it might be the artificial flavors and high fructose corn syrups and other ingredients. It does taste too sweet to me. I like it when my ice cream is made of milk, cream, sugar, eggs, and natural flavors. I recently had Haagen Dazs Lemon and could have eaten the whole darned container myself.

I like Blue Bell is good, but I think it is over rated... There is a local store brand we get locally that will beat the pants off of any other ice cream... It is the silkiest, smoothest, most flavorful ice cream ever. They usually have it on sale for $2.00 for a full half gallon... Their chocolate is to die for.

I go to Brenham,TX at least twice a year and always stop by Blue Bell to tast any new flavors. They seem to have several new ones there before they reach the stores. I go thte Southern Hospitality last year and it was delish. Back in May, I tried the one with caramel popcorn in it. I thought it was going to be nasty but surprisingly it was good. I like most Blue Bell flavors but my favorite is Tin Roof.

MAYBE THIS IS WHY I LIKE HOMEMADE VANILLA

When eating BlueBell homemade vanilla, I close my eyes and imagine that I am back in the time when we made ice cream at home in a hand cranked freezer, and several neighbors participated.

Bringing the big block of ice from the ice house wrapped in a burlap bag riding on the front bumper of the car

Chipping the ice with an old hand held ice pick

The men taking turns cranking the freezer and kids bickering to sit on the freezer to stablize it

Then the enjoyment

And someone volunteering to scrape the internal apparatus which my son refers to as the "rafters"

My favorite is Blue Bell Tin Roof. My local store carries just Vanilla and Chocolate, though.

We don't have Bluebell here either,although we do have 3 walmarts in our town,but they sell dryers(edy's).Ralphs has a brand now called Deluxe and the one i like the best is called Caramel Surprise or something like that .It has big chunks of chocolate and when you bite into that it's filled with caramel.They have lots of different flavors,and the price is good,most of the time they're 2/4.00,and like most it's not a full half gallon.The first time i got it i got the 2 for only 2.00 for both as i had a 1.00 coupon,which they doubled.Think i still have another coupon as well.

Haagen Daaz has lemon?? I'll have to check that out.One of my favorite flavors,but hard to find.

I have Blue Bell's Southern Hospitality in my freezer right now. Another favorite of mine is black walnut and also caramel kettle crunch! Yummy!
