Huge Garlic Festival in NY Sept 26-27
Comments (3)We go every year. Trying the garlic ice cream is obligatory ONCE. Decide for yourself if you like it enough to repeat the experience. The festival is my favorite source of different varieties of garlic for my garden and local honey. This year we're taking the grandchildren. I'm sure we'll be visiting different booths than in the past--like the one with face painting and balloon animals. Even though it does attract so many visitors, I've never felt crowded as it's spread out on so much land. I heartily recommend the festival as a fun day, usually on a beautiful fall afternoon....See MoreIce Cream anyone??????
Comments (11)T2G you need to visit me....I have TONS of old utensils....in fact I spotted the ice cream scoop for ME, but if we can get that kind of money for it.....buh-bye scoop!! :^) On a regular basis, I use old wooden handled kitchen utensils....red and white of course!!! Just last evening my DS and his boss were laughing at my vintage '20's whisk!! The boss had never seen such a thing...She immedieately agreed that it makes the BEST gravy!!...See MoreBreville Ice Cream Compressor...anyone?
Comments (3)I just wanted to update in case anyone is interested in this ice cream maker. I've made 3 types of frozen desserts...non custard vanilla ice cream, strawberry sherbet, and a custard based lemon ice cream. Each one of them turned out phenomenal due to the high quality recipes and ingredients. I'm not sure that if I made this with a freezer bowl type of ice cream maker if my end results would be much different but the convenience of having a let's make ice cream now ability is really nice. I think that having a compressor maintains an ideal temperature is nice as well. I feel that there is a need to use a very cold base even with the compressor as it reduces the churning time as well as lowers the temperature inside of the appliance. The paddle does get a little but iffy once the ice cream has substantially thickened to soft serve consistency. All 3 times I had to stop the machine prior to the automatic setting sounding for fear the paddle would break or the motor would burn out. However, once the machine starts to struggle, the ice cream has always been ready to go into the freezer. It's always a soft serve consistency, never soupy. After being in the freezer the ice cream is hard serve consistency. I enjoy ice cream both was so no issue there. On a a whim my DD asked me to add Skittles to the sherbet which I did out of curiosity (definitely not out of need) and the mixer nicely distributed the candy pieces. It's heavy but I can move it back and forth easily. It's quite large but can be stored. Based on what I've watched online, it seems to be a lot quieter than other ice cream makers. Is this machine necessary to make ice cream...most likely not it it's really nice to have....See More3 ingredient ice cream - anyone tried orange???
Comments (16)I made orange ice cream on Wednesday, but didn't use the 3-ingredient recipe. Finally took a picture of it so I could post on this thread. I don't have the Ben & Jerry's book, but found this (recipe below) on-line and it referenced the Ben & Jerry's book. It's very easy to make, but a bit different from the recipe Linda posted. I added the mint for a little bit of color. The three volunteer guinea pigs who tasted it said it reminded them of the Creamsicles/Dreamsicles of their youth. Apparently, the Creamsicle & Dreamsicle both have a sherbet shell but the Creamsicle has ice cream in the center, and the Dreamsicle has ice milk in the center. Orange Cream Dream Ice Cream from Ben & JerryÂs Ingredients: ⨠1/3 cup Orange juice concentrate; thawed ⨠2 teaspoons Vanilla ⨠2 cups heavy cream or whipping cream ⨠3/4 cup Sugar ⨠2/3 cup Half and half (I added 2 T vodka to keep it from getting icy) Directions: Pour the cream into a mixing bowl. Whisk in the sugar, a little at a time, then continue whisking until completely blended, about 1 minute more. Pour the half and half and whisk to blend. Add the juice concentrate and vanilla and blend. I added the vodka at this step. Transfer the mixture to an ice cream maker and freeze following the manufacturer's instructions. Makes about 1 qt....See MoreOklaMoni
