I Lost A Dear Friend

One week ago today I lost my dear friend of 60 years. We didn't see each other much during that time, but we would keep in touch each Christmas. I received a phone call one day last week from her daughter in law who was going down her telephone book calling everyone in it. She lived in Colorado and I am in Indiana. Ruthie was my art teacher in school and a wonderful person. My school was her first job after she graduated from the university. Rest in peace my dear, dear friend, you will be missed.

(((((Marilyn Sue))))) I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. Having a friend that long is truly a blessing. I lost my best friend of many years, in April, and once in a while I think, I'll give Gracie a call, then remember, but I do still 'talk' to her. I feel that as long as we have our memories of them, they are not truly gone.

Lucy, I'm so glad that you were able to meet up with me on my way down to Austin and on such short notice too. I had such a good time and I agree, the visit was waaaaay too short. Everyone, Lucy is just as kind and funny as she is here in the forum. Wish you all could meet her, she will keep you in stitches. The people at IKEA probably thought we were on something as much as we were laughing. We had the best time ever!!! Barb, I'm with you, it would be a blast if we could have a convention somewhere so we could all meet. Thanks for the info Pam. As I was sitting here thinking about this, I just realized that I got a beautiful First Frost in the mail this week from an auction that I won, and I think I will plant it in a special container and give it a place of prominence in the garden. He was the first "Frost" that I've ever known! Tanya

I would suggest that the relatives immediatly contact a lawyer/law enforcment people now. You might contact an elder abuse expert, if there are no relatives or if he appears to have done this before, again ask about elder abuse. If the state she lives in honors common law marriages, she could ask her attorney general to look into this, but it sounds like it was set up. As a friend, sorry, there is not much you can do about it except spend money to investigate how many times he has done this, and then talk to a invesigative reporter.

I'm so sorry, I live in dread of the day I lose one of my dear friends, not that I haven't lost a few. Our life narrows with every loved one we lose, getting smaller and smaller. It's bad when the first thing you read in the paper is the obituary's as my Father used to do

I'm so sorry, Marilyn Sue. How good that she called you, I called my mom's out of town friends as well. It was so hard, and sadly there were so few.

Glad you had your friend for such a long time and that the relative thought to call you.

I have several friends, that we only correspond at Christmas, and birthdays.

We are getting up there in age, and know time is coming for one of us to get a call.

Thank you all for the kind thoughts. She came to teach art and physical education when I was in the 8th grade. Ruthie was only at our school for two or 3 years and then she and her husband got teaching jobs back in Denver. He was teaching 6th grade where I went to school, Walnut Grove. Why we became friends is hard to say, but we did. She visited me over the years from time to time. Sometimes it was a long stretch before we did see each other, but the friendship was there. I really miss her.

Sorry that you lost that important, if seldom seen, friend, (((((Sue))))).

It is hard to lose our friends ... and as we get older they, sort of like teeth, get fewer and fewer.

A while ago I found that I wanted to keep my enhanced driver's licence ... not that I figured to drive a truck, really, but one wants to hang on to the privileges, I think.

I was thinking that one sort of feels the walls closing in, and one wants to keep pushing them back, as long/much as possible.

The other day I drove a friend to his brother's ex-wife's funeral ... along with that brother.

She was somewhat younger, and they'd been friends, so he found that losing her troubled him somewhat.

He told me that I shouldn't die for at least 20 years ... that he didn't want to have to grieve over me (a fairly recently acquired friend).

So, I told him ... "You want to stick me with grieving over you, then, is that it?"!

Life do have its problems!
