It took a while but I figured it out

I use a front-load machine at the laundromat periodically to wash large bulky items that won't fit in ours. They have double and triple-sized machines. I've also used them in the past to do all my laundry at once.

Even though I set the setting at hot or warm, the water comes in cold (there's a flap at the top where you pour your detergent in and you can feel the water). I was frustrated as I wanted hot water specifically.

It just dawned on me the last time, that because there is so little water being used, it doesn't have time to have the hot water come from the tank to the machine. Poop.
