Cindy: When your SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS blooms, do post a pic. I've got that one too from Curt but it is not a star performer here yet. Debra: This many blooms this late has to be due to the amount of rain we got over the past month. I don't recall this much showing at this late date. Mantis: yes, earlier pics of GEECHEE were better but just shows how much a late opening with cool temps can do to a daylily. Celeste: I've admired your pics of COUSIN SUZANNE. The race is definitely on here too! Linda and Kay: I'm so thankful to get these blooms this late in the season. I'm always on the scape hunt because I just never know what will show itself. KIOWA SUNSET has always been a favorite of mine. It is registered as a EE but here, it doesn't start blooming till early July and the scapes are taller than 23" as registered. Well, the weather turned and we are already up at 60 degrees F here this morning. Rain, rain, rain so I guess that is why our temps moderated. Julia

EASY and QUICK Appetizers 1. Brick of Cream Cheese thickly slathered with Red Pepper Jelly 2. Brick of Cream Cheese thickly slathered with Green Pepper Jelly Note: Sometimes the Red and the Green Pepper jelly are on the shelves with sweet jellies. Sometimes they are stocked with condiments such as mayo, pickles, olives. The Red Pepper Jelly is much hotter than the green. 3. 1 can of small shrimp.. broken pieces are okay. Drain and add enough of Best Foods (Hellmans) mayo and mash up to make a spread. No need to add spices or herbs. Buy an assortment of crackers and cocktail breads to serve with the above 3 appetizers. Buy a bunch of parsley and 'decorate' the 3 plates with parsley after removing some of the big stems. I specialize in parsley placement ;-) at my house.

Marlboro Man's Favorite Sandwich 2 to 3 pounds cube steak (tenderized round steak that's been extra-tenderized 1 large onion OR 2 small/medium onions 4 French/Deli rolls Butter, man Lawry's Seasoned Salt Worcestershire Sauce Tabasco -Slice onions and cook in 1/4 stick butter until soft and light brown. Remove and set aside. -Slice cube steak against the grain. Season with Lawry's. -Heat 2 TBSP butter over high heat (in same skillet) until melted and beginning to brown. -Add meat in single layer. Cook one side until brown, then flip and cook until brown, about a minute on both sides. -Add 1/2 (at least) Worcestershire sauce, 5 to 6 shakes Tabasco, and 2 TBSP butter. Add cooked onions. Stir to combine. -Butter halved French rolls and brown on skillet. -To assemble, lay bottom half of French roll on plate. Place meat mixture, followed by a spoonfull of juice from the pan. Top with other half of roll, cut in half, and devour These are good too: Flakey Deli SLices Ingredients: 1 box (15 oz) Pillsbury® refrigerated pie crusts, softened as directed on box 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese 3/4 lb very thinly sliced cooked ham 1/4 lb thinly sliced pepperoni 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (4 oz) Preparation Directions: 1. Heat oven to 450°F. Remove pie crusts from pouches; place crusts flat on work surface. Sprinkle each crust evenly with Parmesan cheese. 2. Top each crust with ham, pepperoni and Cheddar cheese to within 1 inch of edge. Loosely roll up each crust; place rolls, seam side down, on ungreased cookie sheet. Fold ends under. 3. Bake 12 to 17 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 5 minutes. Cut each roll into 16 slices. Serve warm
