I buy Tide by the 5 gallon bucket. Our school sells it as a money maker. A bucket lasts me a year..

I make my own liquid detergent and have not bought any in years.

I use the Costco brand; fragrance free. I don't have dirty kids at home anymore, but I do have a dh that is a welder and this stuff works on any dirty clothes he has brought me! :)

I use Purex fragrance free - works well for me!

I also use All Free and Clear (HE for my front loader) and stock up when it's on sale and I have a $1 coupon. I generally pay $2 for the 32 load bottle.

Wisk has a Free version of their detergent that I want to find. I use the scented for my husband's work clothes but I can't STAND the smell. I have some issue with fragrance and breathing; nothing major but it is a PITA to suddenly have a coughing fit.

I've used All Free and Clear for a lot of years. Also use Downy fragrance free.

I have very sensitive skin and All (HE) fragrance free works great for me, plus it does a great job on clothes. I usually find it on sale, but Costco is now carrying it.

I use All Free and Clear in my top loader. also have a problem with fragrances.

I use the CostCo powder detergent comes in a bucket, I have used it forever. I also just buy a bottle of fragrance free 'Sun' liquid fragrance free, I use for jeans and my tops.
I never buy and have not for years bought a big name brand ldy soap and never with any smelly stuff in it.

I've been using Ecos Free and Clear, sometimes half-and-half with Purex Linen & Lilies if I want a hint of scent.

Since getting my front loader Samsungs and learning it is best to use only powders and not liquids for them I have used the Sears powder and it is absolutely wonderful. Has very little scent at all. Use very little has a cup included, lasts forever, I am extremely happy with it. They have sales on it from time to time and the price is very good.

I currently have this one in the orange box not sure how different it is than the green box. Works so well I don't see any reason to change. And I have never had any buildup in my machine which can cause them to start to stink. I do leave my door cracked and the laundry detergent drawer open so they can dry out each use.

I use the Norwex laundry soap. No fillers, or fragrance. A 2.5 kg bag lasted me 4 years. I do laundry 1-2x a week, with about 2 loads each time.

I absolutely cannot use a detergent that is not free of dyes and scents or I will itch like crazy. I've tried a bunch of the cheaper varieties..Arm & Hammer, Purex, more...but always have to come back to Tide Free or I can see that my clothes aren't as clean as I like. Not that i go out and dig in the mud...but, just general everyday stains and such. I've heard one version of ALL came in tops on a Consumer Reports test, but that the particular one they rated is hard to find. It isn't all the ALLs.

I have a front-loader & I use the Greenshield Organic fragrance free from Costco. I've also used the Ecos brand, which you can get from Sam's. The one my Sam's carries is lavender scented, but I can't smell any scent on the clothes after they're washed, & I have a pretty sensitive nose.

I have a front loader--and both respiratory and skin allergies.

Only detergent I've used for years is Tide Free--now He, before I got the front loader, I used the regular tide free. It does a great job of cleaning--but I only use about half the recommended amount.

If you have a feeling your clothes aren't getting clean enough, before you switch brands, try a few loads using LESS detergent and a shorter wash cycle. That way, there is less detergent redeposited on clothes and they really do come out cleaner.

My kids have sensitive skin so I use either Tide or All Free and I also buy dryer sheets that are Free. When I first got my front loading machine it was hard to find Free HE soap, but over the years it has become as popular as any other soap.

For front loaders, what's recommended on many product boxes can be 2x or more too much.

Try using less detergent AND hotter water AND a longer cycle. For food or other organic stains, make sure your detergent has enzymes or pre-treat with one of the sprays.

I make my own soap, dry powder type, from scent free Zote soap, washing soda and borax powder.
Once a year I buy the scent free Kirkland detergent. Usually liquid but it depends on the price.
The homemade soap works very well and is cost effective.

Please remember that "fragrance free " and "unscented " mean different things as far as labeling goes. If you are truly allergic or sensitive to chemicals, it is very important to know the difference.

"Fragrance Free " products do not have added scent chemicals, period. They are also free of ingredients that have an unpleasant smell.

"Unscented " things have chemicals added to them to MASK unpleasant odors. The most common of these masking chemicals is a known endochrin system (hormone) disrupter. Unscented products can make sensitive people sick. Febreze, for example, which is loaded with scents AND chemical odor maskers, is outright dangerous for a certain population to which I belong. :-(

I am talking about the terminology on the labels. "Fragrance Free " is the way to go in order to avoid truly toxic chemicals.

I've developed a serious chemical sensitivity, so have learned a fair amount about the worst household and workplace culprits. It's horrifying what we are exposed to on a daily basis.

zote and fels nafta are not fragrance free by any stretch of the imagination!

I just bought Dynamo(clear) and I have to say that it's great! I put three very yellowed dish clothes in the wash yesterday and they came out WHITE! These things have been yellowed for ages! I'm sold on it now!

Rhizo: I did not know that! I know that the USDA regulates organic food (tho I have read it's an uphill struggle because there's not enough funding for the number of inspectors necessary), but does it also regulate home products?

I don't have allergies -- I just don't like the scents of a lot of products co-mingling in my home or on my body. Or, really, around me in general (yesterday while at the grocery store, I headed down an aisle and got a whiff of a man's cologne -- he was at the other end of the aisle -- and I had to turn around and go to the next aisle. Walking into an elevator that has perfume/cologne/tobacco smells also gives me a sickening feeling in my stomach.) People just bathe themselves in cover-ups.

OMG, some perfumes and colognes are the worst! Some people have no idea how overloaded they are. There was a woman in Robert's building that would respray herself whenever she went outside for a smoke! Her main supervisor had to tell her to stop and everyone in the whole place was able to breathe a whole lot easier.

I also have a sister in law (also a smoker) who reeks with cologne. Terrible! Thoughtless perfume wearers are one of the reasons why I don't fly anymore.

Oh I hate scents and smells!! My nose and eyes burn walking down the laundry and detergent aisles. My grocery store recently re-shuffled and now the pet food is no longer in that smelly aisle. Baby smells are the same; far too strong.

Perfumes? Gag, people overload on them. I hate following someone wearing too much perfume, and I'll change my direction to avoid it.

I use the homemade version of laundry detergent, and vinegar in the rinse if I need it. One reason I don't use the dryer is because the smell of those dryer sheets stay inside the dryer and I can't stand the smell of those (or any fabric softener).

I use both the liquid and powder of the homemade. We can't get Zote or Fels, so we Canadians use Sunlight laundry bars. It smells like a lemon candy when I grate it, but the smell doesn't linger on the clothes. I would like a lemony scent, but I hang the clothes outside anyway, so it doesn't matter.

i'm lucky buy whatever is on sale (except tide allergies) most scents don't linger...
