Oh, that's awful!

Not for me. I have long legs, wide hips and claustrophobia. The regular seats are bad enough IMO.

Looks awful! And what's the point of the bump in the middle? (Maybe they explained it in the video....I got interrupted.)

Looking more and more like a can of sardines, it seems.

I agree, it looks way too small for me ! And really uncomfortable !

Ouch.

The only "advantage" of it I can see is in the event of a crash all the sardine class people will be bunched together like a bunch of worms so they'll be easier to find. But you notice they still have their fold down tray so they can be served their fine dining experience that people insist on receiving.

Yippee-i-o-ki-ay pardner, it'd take rope, duct tape, handcuffs and possibly a stungun to get me to fly like that.

Yeah, I saw it. Figured I'd better not post about lest I be called "negative" (again). ;)

Have the airlines not noticed that we're all getting a little wider? Further, if you read the accompanying article, it states that one airline tried to create a configuration that would require STANDING providing a harness such as you find in roller coasters.

The point of the "hump" in the middle is to prevent passengers from slouching and/or wiggling around trying to get comfortable. Upright posture and feet-flat-on-the-floor seating is required so that you don't take up one iota of extra space.

Personally, I don't think American planes will be reconfigured with this anytime soon, but then again, I never imagined we'd be doing virtual strip searches at the airport (new backscatter xrays), and that came in really, really fast.

I suspect (but don't know) that these "Saddles" will be introduced in a small section of the plane for "value minded" customers and then be expanded and expanded until our traditional "coach class" seats will be high dollar and the saddle seats are the norm.

That's what I'd expect.

I'm so grateful that my "frequent flier" days are behind me. I love car trips. :)

Ridiculous!

I will never experience it - DH would never fit !

Have the airlines lost their minds??????? I'm with you, lydia, I won't be buying a seat on that plane ever!!

I'm game! :0) ha ha I can see the up side on this one....no one stealing your armrest....there is NO armrest! :0)

I can't believe any airline would consider this seating even for an hour flight. It's purely ridiculous. They could even offer then free and it wouldn't fly with me. Pun intended.

i can see them adopting it. i wonder if they are made w/newer, safer composites, guessing that's the core reason for even redoing and taking on the costs. if you look at things from a point of view other than your own, it is easier to understand a lot more things. you don't have to agree but it brings a wider sense of understanding. i am an ultra analyst over everything lol. from the airlines point they could care less if you are comfortable, they are businesses who need to make $$ to stay in business. many who fly have no other choice, look at the explosive growth of airlines over the yrs, which has brought the cost of flying way down compared to the 80's when i still paid more LOL. the seat is also another way to force those who don't fit to buy 2. also for tall people like my DH, 6'7" we would have to fly non-economy class or first class to get leg room. less americans flying is not a problem at all since China and India are bigger and have massive growth potential. there is also a price to be paid for comfort when comfort costs businesses alot of $$. ~ liz

You won't catch me in one of those seats. Not only do I want to be comfortable, I can see people getting leg problems from blood clots forming if they have to stay in one position too long. Seats are small and cramped enough as it is.

I could feel my body falling asleep from the waist down, just watching the video. (Hadn't thought of the blood clot problem, Heather.) How do you get out for a bathroom call? Or have those been eliminated also?

Not for me. Imagine if someone got airsick near you?

I'm 5'9" and I have sciatica. Enough said.:)

I'm 5' tall so I could do it for an hour long flight.

I'm almost 5'4" and weigh 140# at my heaviest and I find Continental cramped.

I'm 5'2" and fit just fine into a coach seat. I do feel the pain, for my taller companions.

Does one get a rub-down with oil, like your regular sardines?

o j

That would end my flying. I would just hire a driver to take me where I want to go, a nice good looking hunk. LOL It couldn't cost any more than flying.

Well the whole idea is to cram more bodies on the plane. I think the saddle allows your knees to drop down which allows them to put the next seat closer (like in your face). And the back looks like a straight up and down board. Even an hour would be tough in those seats.

Why not just give everyone a board to lean against while standing. It would be more comfortable than this idiotic idea. Thanks, but I'd rather stay home than travel that way!

If I want to go horseback riding I will, otherwise I want a seat. I'm 5'11 I need to stretch my legs. Now, do we want to talk about people that throw their seatback into my lap......:(
