We always use a nite lite. Too dangerous to wander around in the dark--and it reallllly gets dark out here in the sticks.

I generally try to avoid creating obstacles and dangers so I don't see a nightlight helping for them but I do use a nightlight in the bathroom. That's all the light that's needed in the middle of the night and often even during the day unless I'm going to do something like shaving. It's not as big a deal now that I'm using CFLs but still, burning 4 watts instead of two 13 watt bulbs is still a savings. And I used to use 150 watts in there on the two bulbs. I also leave the nightlight on in there when people stay here. Makes it easier for them being in a different place.

I have them in almost every room. Just need to see where I'm going.

No, I have to have it absolutely dark when I sleep. I do keep a small flashlight on my night stand to use when I have to get up during the night.
I put night lights out for our guests, however. And leave a flashlight by their bed, too.

I have found that if I turn on the bathroom lite, when I get up in the middle of the nite, I Have a hard time going back to sleep. Thus my accident.

I have a Scentsy warmer in the hall, so that serves as a nightlight out there. In the master bath I have a "button" light, it's about an inch and just gives a light glow, not really a light.

And I'm like you Glenda, I can't turn on a light and then go back to sleep.

Always can't sleep in the dark and go to sleep with a video or the tv on can't stand absolute quiet!!

I use a nightlight near the bathroom, so I never have to turn on the bathroom light when I get up. Lately I even take my nightlight with me on vacation or overnight trips.

I bought a 'melted/flattened' Rolling Rock beer bottle nightlight when I was in Branson last month. It's very cool!

Our outside security light shines in the windows enough to do for a night light.

I have a small one on the landing at the top of the stairs and one in the guest bath. I can fall asleep with the tv but I can't sleep with a night light. I can also walk all around my house with no lights on.

I have electric brass candles burning at every window in my house, so I can always see where ever I go in the night. I DO turn them off in my bedroom, but outside of that room I never need to turn a light on anywhere I go. When we have a power outage , it is really spooky because my house is never dark.

No. We have a streetlight that gives just a bit of light to the front part of the house through the window over the entry and the main hall so I don't even use my porch light unless I'm expecting guest. It goes right to the back wall where the back hall intersects it. Doesn't light the hall itself but gives a point of reference to approach.

When I'm alone I like to have the tv or radio on really low. I don't like dead quiet when I sleep. Light one way or another doesn't bother me as long as it's not bright or shining in my face.

Unlike some others I d can't stand to go to the bathroom in the dark. I never understood about women complaining about falling in a toilet at night because of a seat left up. It would never occur to me not to turn on a light.

Our master bath is just a few steps away from the bed so there is nothing to bump into except maybe a dog on the floor. LOL

I don't have any night lights that are left on and would never use another night light that plugs in. I had one in my bathroom that caused a short and I woke up to something burning which was really scary.

If you do use a night light get the solar night light or the ones that you tap or stick outside your bedroom door. I have one by my bed that looks like a regular light bulb and when you pull the string it lights up and you can carry it with you. It operates on a battery.

I don't leave anything plugged in my sockets like nightlights or those air fresheners anymore.

Maybe it's because I have always had poor eyesight, I'm used to feeling my way around.

My eyes are very sensitive to sudden light, so instead of turning on lights when I get up at night, I use motion night lights. I have one in my computer room, the hallway and bedroom. The bedroom night light shines in the bathroom also. They don't come on unless it is dark and I walk by. wouldn't be without them.

I've taken a tip from the older generation. I'm 57-they are in their 80's. Both my own Mom and my best friend's Mom keep a flashlight next to their beds. Grab it for those late-night bathroom runs. BF's Mom learned the hard way-she fell down stairs and broke her hip. Ouch!

Many nights I am up several times to go to the bathroom. Like you, Glenda, after an accident, I now have a nightlight. I have three cats and they like to vary their resting places. Sometimes it is in bed with DH and I, and sometimes not. After tripping over one of them on the way to the bathroom one night and nearly killing myself, I decided a light was in order.

Our bathroom is in our bedroom so we don't really need a light. Plus the neighbor behind us (he is about an acre away) has a security light. I sleep with an eye mask to cut ALL light. I would love to have one in our hallway but there are no outlets there.

I have really bad sleeping habits, I usually leave the TV and Computer on, sleep in my recliner and have not slept in a really dark room in years.

DH and I like it dark, quiet and cool when we sleep. We each have a mini-flashlight to use when we get up at night. I seldom use mine unless our Westie has left his bed (on the bench at the foot of our bed). I don't want to trip over him.

I first bought a 'travel' flashlight after returning from a cruise a very long time ago. It occured to me how dangerous it would be to try to navigate a ship's corridors in a power outage. I never travel without my little flashlight in my purse.

I *can* walk around our house without turning on a light, but it's dark here. I love that neighbors do not leave lights on outdoors. I guess we are a dark-loving community. Our streetlights are gas lamps!

Just about every house has, however, security lights. One of ours(motion detection) is below our bedroom window.

We have street lights that light up the bedrooms and bathroom. I can always tell when it is a full moon because the bathroom is even lighter.

Monica -- Hah! We face the same problem when the city council tries to replace the gaslights! Really, they are so dim that I doubt you could read a newspaper standing directly under one. They cost a fortune to fuel and maintain, but I'm sure I'll be gone before they are. 'Tradition' triumphs again!

Yes, I had a gaslight at the end of my driveway in one house we owned in the 70's. No street lights there, too.

One day, I found the light on the ground, the base had rusted out. I called the gas company to find where I could buy one, and was told that "you can't buy them anymore, they're illegal now". But, when I asked her what I was supposed to do, because the one I have is laying on the ground, and I don't know how to turn the gas off - she said "that's different, we'll get someone out there ASAP to replace it".
Seems that they were not allowed to install new ones, but old ones could be replaced.

I remember growing up, the house was on the corner with a street light.

I have them all over the place. I don't like walking into pitch black places - day or night. I started using some LED bulbs - less energy and last much longer but not as bright. We have no street lights - live in the woods - it's very dark at night.

In the bathroom and in the upstairs hallway. I prefer my bedroom to be totally dark, but living in town, that's an option that I don't have. Guess I could get room darkening drapes but so far I haven't. Also, in the summer here, it doesn't get dark until 10:30 - 10:45 and we go to bed early since Gary has to be up so early for work, so it's always broad daylight when we head to bed.

Yes, nite lights - bathroom, hall, kitchen. I've had one fall, tho not at night but extremely painful, and we sure don't need DH to have ANYTHING more to contend with after 3x bypass saga last winter.

No, it wasn't. The gaslight was at the bottom of the driveway, which was about 100 ft from the house. It's purpose was to show where the driveway entrance was.

Come to think of it, our bedroom was at the back of the house - pitch dark. There was a utility shed attached to the house, right next to one of the bedroom windows...it was broken into one night, lawnmower stolen, and we never knew it !

yes, we have a nite light in the kitchen and when we have guests we have one in the upstairs bathroom that shines down the hallway.
I love a nite light, never have to turn lights on and get blinded! LOL
