Well, he's in Sunset Zone 23 (see his Subject line). But still, good to fill out your "Zone" field (see mine). We've had a very long, cold, wet winter, so don't worry. Things will start to pop for you. My Snow Queen nectarine is just starting to blossom. All my pears including my Seckel are still dormant, but obviously alive. All the things you've mentioned that have broken dormancy should by now and mine are also in the same state as yours - Dorsett Golden and Anna blooming, all poms leaving out, figs setting fruits and starting the leaf out on a few varieties, several of my very low chill stone fruits blooming. But, my Fuji, Red Fuji and Pink Lady apples still not broken dormancy yet, along with a couple of my higher chill hour stone fruits. Patience, grasshopper. If you're really worried about life or death, a quick scratch test will let you know if your tree is still alive or not. Green cambium equals dormancy. No green cambium equals a dead tree. Patty S.

I bought a Santa Barbara greenhouse - Deluxe model 9x16 - last year, after much research on the web comparing structures and prices. I chose the redwood frame and tempered glass mainly for the looks, I wanted something outstanding that would add to the beauty and value of my home and this greenhouse certainly does. I bought it from MCgreenhouses, as they were having a sale at that time. Some friends put it together for me in a weekend. I chose the Lean to model because I was looking for something that would give me easy access to my greenhouse. Plus proximity to electricity and plumbing from my home. I enjoy having my breakfast in the morning and reading a book in the afternoon/weekend in my greenhouse, among my plants, even in the winter: a heavy duty electric heater does the job! This is my first âÂÂrealâ greenhouse and I am not an expert on greenhouses, but I can certainly say that it has served me well. I receive lots of compliments from neighbors and friends all the time, one friend is actually thinking of getting the same greenhouse, as well. I have been doing some growing in it, although I am not an expert in that field either, but I am learning. I had friendsâ children playing around my greenhouse, throwing balls at the glass panels; I went through a couple of heavy storms, but the structure and panels remained untouched! I can only say that I love my greenhouse, it is the best money spent!

Try out simpson elite (improved version of black seeded simpson), adriana for a green boston, and my favorite variety of lettuce, panisse, which is a wonderful oak leaf variety. All did great in the hottest parts of the summer, adriana will bolt a bit before some of the other varieties but still holds pretty well even in my climate which is much worse than yours for lettuce in july.

Yep! that's another(adult) Coopers Hawk, a usual garden preditor.
