Santa Barbara Greenhouses???

Hi all - I'm a newbie getting ready to buy my first greenhouse for use here in New York City. I kind of like the Santa Barbara greenhouses but don't see much about them in my web searches. Anyone have any opinions about their redwood GHs versus Sunshine, for example? What about their Montecito model? I'm looking for a 6x12 or 7x12 size. Esthetically I love redwood, but am open-minded......

Also does anyone in my area have an opinion about paneling? I see that a lot of GHs have 4 mm double and others have 6 mm. Is there a big difference in the winter?

I have a Santa Barbara 7 X 8' "Standard" with the corrugated paneling.
Remarkably indestructable !!
I've moved it 5 times (dis/reassembling). It has even blown over in a wind storm and half collapsed (it was empty).....but I was able to replace some bent bolts, and presto!...back in shape !!

I cannot compare it to others, but it has served me well.
It came truck-shipped in two large/flat/heavy boxes, and an electric (battery) screwdriver is recommended to attach the fiberglass paneling. But after initial set-up, it will disassemble into 4 walls, 2 roof panels, and two bench shelves.

I bought a Santa Barbara greenhouse - Deluxe model 9x16 - last year, after much research on the web comparing structures and prices. I chose the redwood frame and tempered glass mainly for the looks, I wanted something outstanding that would add to the beauty and value of my home and this greenhouse certainly does. I bought it from MCgreenhouses, as they were having a sale at that time. Some friends put it together for me in a weekend. I chose the Lean to model because I was looking for something that would give me easy access to my greenhouse. Plus proximity to electricity and plumbing from my home. I enjoy having my breakfast in the morning and reading a book in the afternoon/weekend in my greenhouse, among my plants, even in the winter: a heavy duty electric heater does the job! This is my first Ã¢ÂÂrealÃ¢ÂÂ greenhouse and I am not an expert on greenhouses, but I can certainly say that it has served me well. I receive lots of compliments from neighbors and friends all the time, one friend is actually thinking of getting the same greenhouse, as well. I have been doing some growing in it, although I am not an expert in that field either, but I am learning. I had friendsÃ¢ÂÂ children playing around my greenhouse, throwing balls at the glass panels; I went through a couple of heavy storms, but the structure and panels remained untouched! I can only say that I love my greenhouse, it is the best money spent!

I live Bushland Tx just west of Amarillo,my greenhouse is 20x30x12,facing south,west wall is R-panels rest of the greenhouse is Lexan poly,so far has stood up to many heavy hailstorms and strong winds,80mph.but I used metal tubing and channel for a frame,a portion of my greenhouse is dedicated to 5 tropical parrots,so I have propane heaters,I built flower beds on south side and west side,about 2 ft deep and tall and wide,as this really helps holding the heat inside,like yours mine is a lean too and northside is the backside of my house,I grow tropicals such as bananas and palms,planted in the ground,so my greenhouse never gets below 50*,we seldom get much snow but last year we got 21 inches and I had snow drifts over 6 feet on the roof of my greenhouse,which buckled the 8inch c channel,lucky enough got it time to but 4x6 timber under it to keep it from crashing down,so build yours as to expect anything that might come your way..

Floorguy, it wasn't a bait and switch. I know retail. This girl was a bit new to this flooring store. She thought the Mowhawk stuff was overpriced and in her mind the Appalachian was the better buy. I was wandering around the store, saw the Mohawk Santa Barbara and inquired. She was shocked when she got the pricing that it was at the time cheaper. I'm assuming you're a professional floor guy by your name. Can you give some insight on which of those two is the higher quality floor? I thought the Mohawk was at the veneer on top was thicker and the total plank just felt heftier. I had one when I lived in Ventura, CA. Very sturdy, so it is rather involved to assemble. Depending on the wind in your area, you might want to mount it on a footing of concrete that you can anchor it to. Also depending on the wind, you might want to put a safety chain on the vents so the wind doesn't tear them off.

Hi shp123, i appreciate your reply and input on my questions. I am looking at asian varieties since they can be eaten firm. I called the nursery and went with Fuyu and eva’s Pride A second ago. Haha. The nursery person told me if I had to cross off one , he would take the Santa Barbara out. Eva’s pride is safe choice. I looked at Dave Wilson list for 2020, very short list for Santa Barbara peach, but a tons of nurseries ordered Eva’s pride . I have ichi persimmon right now is a baby. Haha. I heard good things about Hachiya, maybe i will get one later. Hehe. My yard isn’t big, right now our house is on a 1/3 acre lot, house is 3200 square feet, so I have limited space. But I got 9 trees coming January. My husband thinks I’m crazy. What other trees do you have? I’m a newbie in stone fruit . regards Jolina
