Those in Florida have a question for you

How is the weather at the end of November (Thanksgiving week) in Orlando? I am thinking of going back down there when I have that week off. Is Disney and Universal Studio theme parks more crowded than Spring break or about the same?

This time we are staying in a cheaper hotel and staying a shorter amount of time. I would just go to Universal parks but neither exchange student has ever been to Disneyworld. So, I was thinking one day in the Magic Kingdom and one in each of the Universal Parks.

I was going to go back during Spring break like last year but I'm not sure I'll get that week off this coming year. I think I was at the top of the list last year for sign ups at work, which means I'd be at the bottom this year.

I was also thinking of flying instead of driving so not sure how we would get from the Universal area to the Disney theme park without renting a car. I was planning on renting a hotel outside of Universal, within walking distance of the park. I may just have to rent a car for a day?

I'm in Lakeland, just west of Disney about 45 min. away from Orlando. I googled it just to be sure but my guess was pretty close. The average high is 78 and the low is 57. The schools in my county are out for the week of Thanksgiving - not sure if the Osceolo County schools are or not. I would say it would be a great time to visit - probably no busier than the spring and probably less chance of rain and the humidity would definitely be less.

There are probably shuttles that you could take from the airport to the hotel and from there to the Disney Parks.
If you are only going to Disney that one day, I think I would use the shuttles - we get lost everytime we go over there with the confusing exit signs - at least coming from the west.

Question for those of you who have used F&B Paint

hi polly, My whole house is painted with F&B. French Gray is a fabulous color and a good neutral with just a hint of green. The F&B Eggshell is a good water-based finish that I used on all my bead board and trim. It would be fine for repainting furniture and cleans up easily with water. Water base/latex paint remains slightly porous when it dries so it is good for painting wood furniture as it allows the wood to contract and expand slightly. Oil base paint can be used but I don't see an advantage unless you were planning to use the chest like a kitchen cabinet. It would seal the wood completely and have a hard finish but the clean up is more complex and there are fumes. (I used oil-base paint on my screen doors which stay on all winter and for exterior house trim). Before painting the chest I'd go over it with a 200 grit sanding sponge (3M at Home Depot) to help remove any current finish that would keep water base paint from adhering well. Then vacuum or wipe it with an old tshirt to remove all the sanded dust and particles. I don't think primer is necessary if you've removed the old finish (depends on what that might be). Just go with 2 coats of the eggshell (satin low-sheen). The good thing about F&B is that it covers quite well as it is thicker than many paints and easy to apply. Also, if the chest gets any eventual wear, the paint will wear through to the natural wood and there won't be another color underneath. It's fine for windows as well. I used F&B primer underneath on windows. The paint is very durable, my woodwork looks great and it cleans up easily. Another benefit is absolutely 0 odor afterward (though more and more paints are offering that these days).

redspot321, as domingos35 says, you can put in one of those screw in LED's. Look at this thread for a discusssion between pentair intellibrite, color glo and hayward led http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/pools/msg100910336212.html?4 We also installed standard lighting in the beginning and 2 mths later we upgraded to an intellibrite. It is the best thing we ever did. We entertain a lot at night and we have the light on every nite because we sit outside for happy hour. We almost went with a color glo screwin LED however I shopped around and got an Intellibrite for less than the cost of a color glo, so it made a lot more sense for me to upgrade to the intellibrite. Question to those of you who have under cabinet lighting

In our last house we had IKEA lights (link below). They are not normally hardwired, but they do daisy-chain into each other so you just need one outlet. We had our electrician install an outlet in the microwave cabinet just above one of the lights; then we simply drilled a hole in the bottom back of the cab and ran the cord up to the outlet. You could not see it. basically the same idea as sophie_blue plugging into behind the fridge. In this house we are retrofitting the same type of IKEA lights to be hardwired. The cord comes out of the wall just below the upper cabinet. Actually, I think it would be cheaper for the electrician to do the outlet... that way he just installs the outlet and leaves, and you install the lights and plug them in. If you do hardwired, he has to install the lights and everything. If you decide to do this, and want to cut the smallest hole possible in your cabinet bottom, just cut off the plug that comes on the lights, drill a very small hole just big enough for the cord, thread it through, and use a "replacement plug" from the hardware store on the end. Or, make the hole big enough for the light-end receptacle to fit through (which is about 1/3 the size of a plug). We chose IKEA lights for the new kitchen because we were so pleased with them in the last house, and when compared the other brands we looked at in lighting stores, the quality-to-cost ratio was favorable. Questions for those who have misting systems

It makes sense to me that cuttings would like warm temps but I've found that some root better in cooler temps such as Gallicas and a few others. Some people think cool temps are a lot better for rooting. It seems to me that I have not seen misting systems in many greenhouses. It seems like humidity is high anyway in a greenhouse. Just wondering if a greenhouse would solve part of my problems. I am on a budget so am looking at cheap ones on ebay but don't know why they make so many of them in green plastic. I don't know if plants get enough light under green plastic. Seems like in a small greenhouse a little cool mist vaporizer might be all I'd need. I did find an 18" outdoor misting fan at Home Depot for $89. Have to connect it to a hose. Small " misting systems" with no fan are a lot cheaper. Maybe I'll try that. Am not sure how to rig it up but probably can figure something out. Vapor, I have used mosquito dunks here for other things...they are good.

We were married on November 5, 1994 and honeymooned at Disney.
We went thru a travel agency and got really great prices.
We got airfare, hotel, and rental car; we could have gotten
5 day passes to Disney parks but we weren't staying that long.
A shuttle took us from the airport to the rental car place.
Then brought us back to the airport at the end of our stay.
We only stayed a couple of nights. Went to Disney World the
first day and Epcott the next day. Third day we went home.
The weather was absolutely wonderful. No lines for any of
the rides. Spaceship Earth was closed for repairs and I had
really wanted to see that one again (the big ball at Epcott).
I don't think late November would be too much different.

Almost all the motels off-site have shuttles to take you to the park. You can Google motels in Kissimmee and Buena Vista and check the rates for the time you want to go. There are also shuttles from the airport to the motels, but I'm not sure of the prices. Did you stay at Disney last year? They have those new cheaper motels with kitchenettes right at the park that my daughter and her family stayed in quite a few times and loved it. When you call motels you might want to ask if they will pick you up and take you back to the airport.

Usually it's a wonderful time of year. Humidity is way down and chances of hurricanes are usually about zip.

You're such a good person to want the students to have good experiences while they are here.

Yes, Patti, we stayed at the Animal Kingdom lodge. Don't want to spend that kind of money again. Still haven't decided if we're driving or flying. I want Alex to come too but he only has five days off that week. Not enough time unless we fly.
