Too Many Reality Shows

There are just far too many reality shows on tv, I am getting tired of them. Last night I watched one called Man vs Food, it was about this guy pigging out on very large portions of food, very weird.

Who thinks up these shows, I am getting tired of paying my cable bill for this poor quality of shows they are serving up to us.

Man vs Food, that sounds like a strange one! There are a lot of reality shows but the only one I watch is Survivor. If you are tired of them, the answer is don't watch them. :^)

Watch a different program or turn off the TV and do something else. I think they do them because they are cheap to produce and I guess some people like them!

I must say i agree with you 100%.Seems like we get more every season and worse than the ones that came before them.

I had high hopes that Oprah's channel would be good,not so,nothing but Dr Phil every night for hours at a time,and lord only knows how many times she's shown the color purple.

Our cable bills get higher and higher,and the selections get worse and worse.

Survivor is the only reality show i watch as well,and even that has lost some of it's spark.

And yes i know i can turn the tv off anytime i choose,but that is clearly not the point!!!!

Hey, Fori, the repair guy called! At a reasonable time, and I was already gone to meet the cabinet maker and contractor. We had a very productive session. I'll call Mr. G. tomorrow. Meantime, I'm going to post about the cool factor in Appliances. I got 2" of countertop on both sides because the cabinet maker was making pretty frames around the ovens and Advantium. Instead there will be 1" nice frames. The ladder is too tall for the right of the ovens, and I wan't still more counter, so that's going to be a tall pullout like Gizmonike's, only with trays for spices, etc. The little cupboard over the ovens is only going to be about 8" tall anyway, so will have a flip up door rather than swing doors. Should be good for oven pieces. He can do rails and stiles with the bamboo, so the stemware cupboards in the butler's pantry will have inset glass (probably pebble) in the uppers and glass shelves. I think this will cure the bamboo forest problem, because it'll draw the eye away from the slabs. The only view I was ready to go all out Gumby for was standing in the prep area of the island. That, and my mother's jazzy hardware. :) No gumby ;( Glass would be too heavy and unsafe. There will be a message center with an 8" deep flip down writing surface in the center of the pegboard cabinet (on the right from the pantry. We also hashed out a lot of drawer depths, etc., and things look good. I came away feeling very good about the whole thing. I even might have found a top for the island. BTW, sorry for going off on the dye. I'm a fiber artist with respiratory issues so I took that literally. :D RIT's a different story. ;)

i lost my senior great dane girl 5 weeks ago to bone cancer. it was sudden and shocking and i still look for her. my remaining dane girl and eden were joined at the hip, pip took the loss very hard and had been grieving so much, it broke my heart. i contacted pip's breeder and one of her former co-owners and asked that they keep an eye out for any adults that any breeder friends might be considering a new home for (retired show dogs, etc.). the co-owner gave me the contact information for one of her people who had a dane boy she had been looking for just the right home for and the rest is history. meet "flighty foto my way", call name "frank". frank will be 4 years old on 5/31. he is a very sweet boy and he and pippin hit it off immediately at our meet 'n' greet friday. they do zoomies numerous times a day, sleep curled up together and are just a perfect pair. pippin is so much happier and that makes me happier. even though i miss eden terribly, i am beginning to heal now that pip is feeling better. frank is a bit on the thin side because he lived the last 4 weeks with a female dane who was going through a heat cycle and when that's going on, intact males ignore food, do a lot of pacing and fretting and routinely lose weight. he's eating like a horse so i'm confident he will gain and be back to his normal weight soon. i'm giving him a few weeks to settle in and then i'll make an appointment to have him neutered.

Re: cooktop on the island: I know you are starting to move away from this concept, but I want to emphasize how important I think it is NOT to have the cooktop on the island. This is from my experience, and I know everyone is different, but there is no way I would have the cooktop on the island simply from a safety standpoint. When my kids were younger, they sat at the island to do homework. They would have never felt comfortable sitting there if I was cooking. My mother had her cooktop on the island for 37 years, and she loved it, but the island was essentially a gigantic cooktop. She didn't do her prep there, and no one sat at the island while she cooked. Think of the times you are cooking and your oil spits. All it takes is one time...and your kids will never sit at the island again. And I wouldn't want them sitting there. Do you want your precious sweeties injured? No. Re: prep sink in the island even though you are not far from you main sink. My cutting board is in the island, and even though it is a mere 3-4 ft. from the garbage disposal, I remember the first time I used it thinking,"How do I get this crap over to the sink without making a mess on the floor?" Our house is 27 years old, and prep sinks weren't the thing in our area at the time it was built. There are times when I wish I had it, but if I would redo the kitchen, I wouldn't put one in, and here's why: our island is the perfect party magnet. Guests and family just love to hang out at the island when someone is cooking or just to socialize. When we have a large party, we use the island as a buffet table. I think I would just view the prep sink as being in the way in a situation like that. But that's me. Because we don't have a prep sink, the floor between the island and the sink can get dirtier than the rest of the kitchen. I joke that it's amazing how dirty the kitchen can get when you use it! But isn't that what kitchens are for? My mother washed her kitchen floor almost daily. But she made everything from scratch, plus she canned and froze her own vegetables and fruit. So if I have to wash that section of the floor more frequently than the rest, so be it. Another thing I would consider is the clean-up triangle. One plan had the clean-up area include the sink, DW, and table. But the refrigerator is a huge part of clean-up. There's a lot of 'stuff" you have to put away. Also think about your landing area for putting leftovers into containers. We use our, yes, you guessed it, island for this. We keep out containers in a cabinet in the island. I'm glad you are keeping an open mind about your plan. There are so many good ideas here. No kitchen plan is perfect. You're doing the right think by being more aware of your habits this week, so you can determine what your needs are. Oh, and one more thing. There are many things in our gorgeous, upscale kitchen, that are wrong, mostly due to placement. But after living her for 22 years, we have gotten so accustomed to it, that we would never spend the money to "make it right". Now that we are retired, we would rather use that money for travel. Just food for thought, no pun intended.

I can't watch any of those reality shows. However, I still tune into The Amazing Race which premiers tomorrow night!

Have to admit that I am a reality show junkie but I've never seen Man vs Food. It's a shame though, the price of cable and satelite these days that it's hard for many people to find enjoyable programming.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. I was wondering how the actors felt if they studied to do acting and now are being displaced by (un)ordinary people.

you just can't stray away from the big 4...man v food is raher funny at times, but watching him eat a 10lb burger can give you instant heart-burn...i'd rather watch him then toddlers and tierras, though...

i admit i'm a fan of amazing race, survivor and watched big brother via showtime from 12a to 3a...lol...(i also did lots of late night laundry, too)

Sorry, don't watch any reality shows etc. All seem to be staged or ?? We have an excellent PBS station which puts on alot of good movies from all over but mostly Canada and US. Prairie Public. Love it.
But then I don't watch much TV at all.

I have never watched cable reality shows..all the housewives etc., but I LOVE Amazing Race and it wins the Emmy every year beating all the others including AI. New show starts tomorrow and football will again mess the schedule . I like Survivor and Big Brother too.

I agree completely! With all the reality shows and talk shows, there's literally 'nothing worth watching' on t.v. anymore. Even PBS has gotten into the mess - talk shows are now being broadcast on PBS. I'm glad I don't like watching t.v.!

The last good broadcasts I saw on t.v. were the series of Shrek movies and the PBS Hummingbird special.

I love Survivor and Amazing Race, but have enjoyed others in recent times. The country music channel had one to find the next star; Design Star on HGTV; Apprentice; American Handyman, etc.

I hate the Jon and Kate, Kardashians, etc. type.

I agree with Wanda, hate those "reality celebrities." As I've said over and over, I like old TV shows (TVLand) and old movies (Turner Classic Movies). I like cooking shows, as I also enjoy eating.

I watch Apprentice and Survivor. My kids like to watch the food reality shows. I do without ruining the family lives of people like Jon and Kate, the Duggars, or any ofthe Little people. I am absolutely sick of the self-promoting "K" family visibly being everywhere. I have never watched their show and want them out of eyesight.

I wouldn't mind more 'How to' shows that show basic improvements in every day life. I think Travel Channel or someone else should go visit every state in the US and visit places that make that state great. Same for the National Parks.

Never have watched Kate, Duggars, don't even know where the Kardashians are and couldn't care less. I do watch DWTS..or rather record and just watch the dancing parts.

I agree that they do them because they are cheaper to do, no mega star salaries, no excessive writer and production costs. I don't mind the competition type of shows as much as the ones like Jersey Shores, Kardashian's and the various housewives. I don't understand wanting to watch those lifestyles and daily activities. We are watching more and more of the cable networks for their series.

Reality shows first surfaced when the writer's strike happened a number of years ago. They were a hit, but then there weren't many either....Survivor I think was the original one.

Now, because they're dirt cheap, no one needs to know how to act.....all anyone has to do is fight, and it's a hit.

I hate them as well. We watch some of the music ones....the X factor and a bit of the Voice, and sometimes Dancing with the Stars, and America's Got Talent.

As far as Big Brother, Amazing Race....they don't interest us.
