What's for dinner Monday?

Happy Labor Day, everyone. Katy and Justin got in last night and we sure are enjoying them. Right now, they're playing gin rummy with Harry. Then they're going to the pool for a while.

Dinner tonight will be Nita's pork roast with cherry sauce, coconut rice, broccoli and strawberries with ice cream. Katy can have milk products now since she takes Lactaid. Not a very "Labor Day" menu, but it's just too hot to be outside.

We'll be gone tomorrow and Wednesday, if someone wants to start the dinner post.

Your dinner sounds delicious!

Miss Myra's along with everyone else.

Had my usual: smoked chicken salad, pickle spear and crackers.

Then treated myself to Bruester's for a scoop of chocolate lovers trash.

Had ribs left over from a prime rib I froze, so I'll put a little barbeque sauce over them and corn on the cob.

I've eaten at Tubby's for breakfast, which was pretty good. The Marshall House is so beautiful! Did they tell you that you got there at a lucky time? You just missed the St. Patrick's Day parade, when hundreds of thousands of people attend what is reported to be second largest St. Pat's celebration in the country. What a green crush of people! But it is an incredible parade...I'm glad I went but once was enough. And I think that the big music festival is coming up, another time that the city is packed to overflowing. The hotels and inns are booked a year in advance!

Ellen chicken salad sounds delicious Shirley, Spanish rice sounds good. I make one version in the slow cooker, with ground beef. Sue, I like my fried egg sandwiches with tomato as well, and bacon when we have it. Kath, I used to like the Southwestern Salad from McD's. Haven't had one of them in a couple of years now. Raven, I love that skillet dish. One-dish meals are so handy. OF, as you said, frozen lasagna is way easier than making one from scratch! Pam you had what is the perfect steak dinner! Jim, veggie soup and lemon pudding! Yum! We're in for the high temps tomorrow as well with high humidity. 30C but feeling much hotter with the humidity.

This week includes my annual "special day" (a secret!). Last nite started with parmesan shrimp, breaded shrimp, coconut shrimp, shrimp alfredo, baked tater, salad, cheddar biscuits. Guess where? Brought home enough in the box for two lunches! Tonite will be a pig out buffet. Normally $20, I squeaked it down to $5, and that was free. Dumbo still prepared too much food here. A Chocolate Cake, with creamy Chocolate frosting. BBQ ribs. Some hamburger patties. A big pot of Chili. Salsa and Avacado. No cooking the rest of the week. Anybody hungry?

Prairie Rose, do you barbecue all winter long, or was it because the weather was nicer today? Morz I love a well-done roast, and the slow cooker makes it easy. I also love cranberries in my salad. Have you tried them with roasted brussels sprouts? That's a favourite with us. Monica I made sweet potato fries last week and we loved them. The last time I tried baking them, they oozed out over my oven. I didn't realize they cooked so much faster than white potatoes. Rhizo, I love reading your dinner threads. You are so darn healthy! BLF, isn't it nice when a recipe from a fellow member turns into a keeper? Shirley, I wasn't sure if today classified as a "holiday" today (Family Day) so I made sure I roasted my vegetables before 5 pm to at least get the mid-rate hydro rate. I hate the smart meters. Moni, I add cheddar cheese to my broccoli soup. Probably negates any positive benefits of the broccoli, but it sure tastes good.

I loaded the slow cooker with a corned beef and red potatoes before we went out to hit the sales. I have a cabbage to add in to it.

Happy Labor Day to all too. Cheryl and I picked tomatoes and peppers this afternoon here and at Amber and Mike's. I will be very busy tomorrow canning salsa I hope. We just had pancakes for our supper. I am ready for bed as I will be up early.

We cleaned out the fridge tonight! We were at the pool for a few hours to end our summer, so this was quick!

2 leftover chicken breasts. Dh ate his plain, I sliced it up and made chicken tacos with salsa and tomatoes. Girls had some spaghetti and meatballs and brocoli. Dh also ate the slice of pizza from our Pool Party on Friday night with neighbors.

Not very exciting, but I HATE to waste food or money, so it was nice to use it all up!

I made peanut butter cookies with the Hershey kiss in the middle for dessert tonight. DH's favorite!

I am sure Katy and Jason will love that pork roast. Glad you are all having such a good time.

Dinner tonight was leftover liver and onions. Also cleaned out all the rest of the leftovers.

We have had lots of rain here today so am glad we didn't plan a BBQ.

We had a lazy Labor Day! Went to a late breakfast at a place called Billy's Cafe, great home fried potatoes and I had hash and eggs also! Later in the afternoon we went to the villages square and sat on one of the hotel's patios with a drink and had a view of the lake and Arnold Palmer golf course. Then we went to dinner at R.J. Gators and I had a Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich. We also put the top down on the car. It was a nice day, but hot.
