Yes, it's called a built-in electric GE wall oven. Have had it for years, and it cooks both slow and fast - just select the temperature.

I'm confused by your post. You say you have a crock pot, and you're thinking of buying a slow cooker. They are one and the same.....just Crock pot is like saying Kleenex for tissue.

You said you *don't* want it to cook all day while you're away at work. That's the beauty of these things......so you can.

Anyway, a year or more ago I bought a Hamilton Beach 3-in one slow cooker. It has 3 different sized bowls for the size of meal you want to cook.

I love it! Use it fairly regularly.

I had a Smart Rival previously, used it a couple times and it got so hot, my little roast was burnt. New ones get hotter than the older ones, but my Hamilton Beach is perfect.

I have several ones in different sizes and brands. None of them have a timer on them. I do have a gadget that can be plugged into the cord and then into the outlet and it will time it that way, but have only used it a few times.

I had a couple of them and threw them both away when I bought the Nesco Roasters. One was a Crock Potî and the other was a Rival Chefs Potî. Won't have a traditional slow cooker again. The Nesco will do everything a crockpot/slow cooker will do and more, and better. The Chefs Pot though was a vast improvement since it would give you temperature control other than just hi/lo/off. Could use it for a deep fryer, boiling water, and with the crock for slow cooking. So that was better than the other one but I still prefer the Nesco Roaster Oven. And they're generally cheaper than a traditional slow cooker/crockpot too.

Mine is a Hamilton Beach slo-cooker. Love it for stews and roast beef.

I have a crockpot slow cooker and another thing I call a roaster, I used it last year at Thanksgiving to cook the turkey in.(both came from Walmart)
I use my crock-pot alot, especially for a roast or for ribs. Love the roaster to make a huge pot of green beans with bacon, cause thats how my Mom always made them !

The librarian gave one to me about three years ago (that works only on "high").

She didn't say anything about it being a loan ... so, yes, I guess that I own it.

About three years ago, in discussing breadmakers with the owner of a grocery in this small village, when she said that she'd like to try one, I said that I had an extra one that I could lend to her ... but that a friend might want it, later.

Some time after I'd delivered it, when I asked her how things went ... she said that it didn't work, and she'd thrown it out.

I suggested that my friend, being fairly good at fixing things, might have been able to have retreaded it.

Karen--I don't know if you work or not, but it sure is a nice feeling to walk in the door after a day at work to smell dinner already done! Mine has a high, low, keep warm--cannot remember the brand.

No - got one for a wedding gift but I think I only used it about once - finally got rid of it. I really don't like things that are mush and/or cooked to death - which is what I feel like you end up with using a crockpot.

Since you don't like your crock pot, you won't like the slow cooker either!

Gibby I dont like things over cooked either ! But my husband does. He had all his teeth pulled last year and now he "thinks" everything needs to be cooked like mush, but he can chew if he wants, I have also seem him eat a steak !
But my point is, I use my crock pot to make different meats for him because he says I cant cook them too much !
(guess I should add he has a nice new set of teeth)

Wow I am surprised. Everyone I know loves their crock pot/slow cookers. I use mine quite often, especially if I am going to be out.

Oh, this is funny. I was just on facebook posting a soup recipe that I cooked over night last night. I go through spurts where I like to wake up to a nice pot of soup, which I have for my morning snack at work. I love crock pots. They're very nice for putting cabbage rolls in too. I come home from work to a great meal when I use it!

Love mine and to keep foods from being cooked to death..you have to adjust the cooking times. I am lucky enough to be able to start mine on low and then bump it up one of the several times I run in during the day

Ditto what jasdip said. I have the Hamilton Beach 3-in-1 and love it. It cooks food at just the right temperature. Not too low, not too high, just right. No bells and whistles, just works like a dream. I gave my old Rival to our DS a few years back and he loves it. It must be close to 20 years old now. I did have a new automatic Rival that I purchased about a year before I got the Hamilton Beach and I hated it. It boiled everything no matter what you had it set on. Low, medium, high...it didn't matter and it ruined everything. I bought the Hamilton Beach to replace the new Rival and I haven't looked back. BTW, the Rival went on a trip to a consignment store.

I'm curious too! What do you think the difference is between a slow cooker and a crock-pot?

Are you perhaps thinking of a roaster - Nesco, for example? I understand they can be set for low, slow cooking, but I don't have one, so I can't comment on their functionality.

Maybe you are thinking of a Sous-Vide?

They are really pricey. DS built one himself and loves it. He and his GF work crazy hours so he likes to prep/cook ahead when he has time.

The article above is either old, or misinformed or both. Jarden owns the CROCK-POT name and a number of other trademarks on the product. Not all crock-pots have removable "crocks". That was the problem with one of them I had. The 50plusfriends site tried to get technical on whether the hyphen makes a difference or not and was threatened with a lawsuit by Jarden. (Here's what their lawyer had to say in one letter.)

A little more trivia, "Slo-cooker" is a UK trademark for a similar appliance.

That issue aside, the biggest complaint I see from people with these appliances these days is the temperatures are so high. They've always been inconsistent and one unit's "high" temperature could be the same as another unit's "low" temperature. It's not unlike the problem with people talking about hot, warm or cold wash in laundry. They'd be far better off to talk about temperature in degree rather than ambiguous terms. Interesting how cooks get concerned about oven temperature when they put a roast in the oven, but don't care when they put it into a countertop appliance. This is why I prefer a roaster oven or at least a unit with a temperature control probe.

Forgot to address it earlier, but the point about a timer on here is much like a timer on an oven. What good is it? Possibly for stewing some veggies but I sure wouldn't put meat in there and leave it feed bacteria for hours before starting. Plus these units with a crock take a long time to get up to temperature which is why they say never put frozen meat in them and many say it's best to brown stuff first.

We have 2 crock pots and use them both.. One is quite a bit larger than the other.. but I use them on a weekly basis... great for simmering soup they are.
