I like the people that are on two of our local stations, they have been there for years,and they make it fun so I stick with them for the most part. Once in awhile I like to turn on CNN and I enjoy Anderson Cooper on occasions

The only difference I see between the major networks is the order in which they report the same, identical stories. They all run whatever press releases have come in; no original reporting for the most part. In desperation I may turn to BBC America -- sometimes only to find the same 'over the transom' supposed 'news'. LOL

We tend to watch CNN more than any local stations.

I don't watch the news anymore, but when I did I chose the station by the newscasters I liked. I get my news mostly from the newspaper.

My choice for national news is determined by my choice for local news. I used to watch CBS, but the local station has changed the format so much and now it's almost like a visual National Enquirer.

So I've moved to ABC, where the local newscasters remain professional and don't inject their personal opinion into every story. And then I watch ABC national news right after ...

We watch Morning Joe on MSNBC every weekday morning (6-9 Eastern time). Good give and take on both sides and many guests who throw in yet more opinions on any given subject. I never could get interested in national/international news, but this program has me delving into many aspects of it and reading more op-ed pages as well.

I appreciate a station that knows the difference between journalism and urinalism. A station that goes after a story and presents it in a fair manner with something more than our call to the opposing side went unanswered. The sad irony is that many of the "tabloid" shows are more credible than the conventional news outlets! TMZ was on top of things when Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett died. Our local stations kept referencing TMZ!

Having worked for stations and news outlets I well know that it's a competitive business and in todays economy, well the economy given to us for about 10 years now, stations have suffered. They don't have the funding to have 15 meteorologists on staff, 75 reporters wandering the streets, 3-4 helicopters and the luxury of embedding reporters in foreign countries as they did a couple decades ago.

One newscast is pretty much the same as the next, with the news set and anchors being the biggest difference. There's a template followed by most all stations who dare not vary from the "proven" formula of news presentation. If it bleeds, it still leads, few people live until the weather and they search the internet for a lost puppy story with a happy ending for the closer. Same stories are often seen on different channels on different nights. Sometimes it's interesting and telling to see how it's presented.

I don't like a fake presentation. When the (now mandatory) female anchor has her eyes on the sides of her head from so much Botox, I can't watch that. That's a face made for radio, if they have any talent. The stories told are pretty much all geared for the ever desired 18-35 demographic and what passes for "news" is whether it interests that portion. It's all part of the template.

There's not a lot of choice around here anymore for news. They're all pretty much the same. So I base it on their weather. If they have people who *know* about weather, our local weather, the impacts of the surrounding area on weather, then that's who I go to when weather is a concern. Doesn't matter if they have a super duper doppler schmoppler radar if the morons don't know how to read it. I look for a station that gives information. Not their interpretation. I know that there'll be fog in the morning if the dewpoint is high, so tell me dewpoint, don't guess about fog. And I can read the radar, I know what a hook echo is so show it to me and I'll tell you what's going on. The more info given, the better and more likely will I tune in, otherwise I'll get it from the net. And keep your fancy graphics, few of them know how to use gesture recognition anyway so drop it.

Sports? Who cares? I can get scores from the internet.

I do like a natural interaction between people but too often it's canned and forced. And stations that leave someone in front of a closed City Hall at 10:10pm so they can do a "live" shot, that tells a station that doesn't know what they're doing. And I don't need 15 teasers saying "coming up next" when it won't come on until the end of the cast. You lose credibility that way - it's a lie.

It's really sad. Around here we had some of the best newscasts in the country, 10-20 years ago. But slashed budgets, much from internet impact, has destroyed the local newscasts. National newscasts aren't much either for the same reasons. News used to get 30% ratings, now are lucky to get 5%-7% tops. Cable and internet really cutting into it with the need to know it now. It used to be fun competition between stations. Now it's boring cutthroat competition. I watch less and less of it. Which isn't good either. An uninformed public is not a good thing.

We watch Fox News because we want to know what is really happening in Washington.

i watch my favorite local news and the tv just stays on where it is for the national. i read cnn homepage on the computer.

We do the same as Jae, we tune in to out local station and then it just stays there for the national news.

Wanda, a good friend and I always joke about the news. I tell her I watch CNN because Fox is too conservative for me and she tells me she watches Fox because CNN is too liberal for her.

I channel hop.

Ha-ha, Wanda. NOBODY knows what is *really* happening at City Hall, much less Washington! (But we ALL know where Paris Hilton was last sighted -- or cited.)

I like Diane Sawyer on ABC and Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow on MSNBC

I like "Morning Joe" too, wannaretire, except for the darned music they play in the background sometimes. I like Willie Geist who has a 1/2 hour program before MJ and then is on their show a lot. We get two newspapers so I get most of the news from them. In the evening we watch ABC for two reasons. I like Diane Sawyer and the main reason------Jeopardy comes on right after :-)

We sleep to either HDTV, CNN or MSNBC. CNN because I hope AC360 will have James Carvell on. I'm totally in love with him!!

Cynic, those "coming up next" teasers drive me crazy, too.

If you notice, these days they call themselves journalists rather than reporters. I don't know if it's because it sounds fancier or because they're just reading a script that's put in front of them. They do get my appreciation when they're able to pronounce all those foreign names. Like Blagojevich. LOL!

I don't "watch" news it's background noise for me while I work a puzzle or surf the net. If I hear something interesting I stop and listen. Like Storm Warnings!

I watch a variety of news sources.
ABFN...... Anything BUT Faux News.

I also listen to NPR radio, which gives a well rounded discussion & insight on current events, news, politics.

I watch just enough local and national news in an attempt to stay informed. I could never be 'addicted' to news or I would be seriously depressed and constantly mad. lol

Our local stations think way too much of themselves. Considering our city is under 200,000 people, we have way too much local news...morning, noon, afternoon and evening.

I don't have cable so am limited to NBC, ABC or CBS...oh yes, and PBS. I use the remote a lot.

I used to be a news report junkie, but I have pretty much quit watching the news. There is no reporting. It is all gloom and doom. Local stories are rare. So I went cold turkey. It is a waste of my time for the most part, and reporting and research are rare. We have news readers. The 24 hours a day news maw blows up little stories into big stories just to have enough to report, such as the idiot Florida minister who wants to become famous as a pyromaniac.

I think most local news is garbage. Much more time spent on weather and sports than current events. I'll watch PBS, listen to NPR, or read the news online from several different sources. If there is a reason I feel like watching network news, I'll watch anything but FOX.

I enjoy the Daily Show for entertainment but don't consider it a major news source, although I tend to learn a thing or two when I watch it. Love the Colbert Report too. :) I laugh so hard at that show.

I get my news from a lot of different places.I think the internet would be my number one source and I read some online newspapers.

Like so many others I cannot stand any of our local news stations. 30 minute broadcasts, 10 minutes of weather, 8 minutes of sports, 2 minutes of actual news and 10 minutes of commercials. And with the exception of PBS's Lehrer News Hour, I don't watch national news on TV either.

For news, I listen to our local PBS station for both local and national. For weather and any story I want to learn more about , I go online.

I watch NBC news every night, grew up with it, "watched" it every evening with my mom via phone calls every night. She has been gone ten years, I still reach for the phone when I hear it start.

Fox is pretty much on here most daytime hours.

Local would be next. Anything but CNN.
