Do you watch any educational TV shows? Which ones? I watch

Jeperdey(sp) and the news that's about it.

We watch the History Channel and Discovery channel quite a bit.

Yes, some history channel and lots of PBS. I like nature shows but switch channels when one animal starts hunting and eating another (as inevitably happens). I really liked the genealogy show with Henry Louis Gates that aired last week on PBS--tracing the ancestors of some well known Americans. I also like the shows Allen Alda is doing on the human mind.

We really enjoy CSI, all of them. Usually only watch the 11pm show though. I like the amount of advertizing ('cause I have time then to do the whole day's dishes that I didn't do during the day.) CSI is about the only show I watch these days 'cause I am either working on business stuff or working outside in the yard and only have time to sit down after dark. Now, dark is after 10 pm already. I really enjoy gardening shows on TV but in the last few years the quality of the gardening shows has gone 'down the tubes'. We used to get shows about the plants, about how to do things in your garden, shows that taught you something about gardening. I really enjoyed Ken Beattie's show, 'Get Growing' on Saturday am until they cancelled it last year. Now, the new thing out is to quickly make over one yard and since the neighbor has the identical backyard, let's see what each landscaper can do to make them look different. No information about the plants is given. So...I am tempted to cancel HGTV. In the summer when I want to work outside that is when the TV producers used to air the gardening shows...not in the winter when I had the time to sit down for the evening. Now, it doesn't make any difference 'cause there are no really good informative gardening shows on anyways. There...my 'beef' for the day. Brenda

I watched Survivor for a while, but gave up on it a couple years ago. Watched Amazing Race twice I think. Gave up on that. I only watch American Idol, and Are You Smarter than a 5th. grader if that is considered reality. I will watch America's Got Talent and Apprentice if they come back. Last night on PBS they showed some of the old comedy shows, and that was really refreshing. Sad to say TV is really not worth the money; but how else can we get the up-to-the-minute news? Sue

The first time I accidentally came across SATC I was shocked, and embarrassed to be watching it with me in the room! Didn't finish the episode. One of the racier ones I guess. It was on free-to-air tv in Australia so I don't know how much it may have been edited. I've occasionally seen other episodes and thought the show might have been interesting. I made a point of watching the final episode. I can understand people following the show all the way through but it was on at a time in my life when I needed to be an expert channel changer so I just didn't tend to watch anything with that sort of potential. What has bothered me more is some of the stuff on SBS and ABC which has suddenly shown up in inappropriate timeslots. At least I had some idea SATC had a bit of a reputation, and it was in a better timeslot. (I've been told ABC and SBS don't have to abide by the same standards as the commercial stations.) I like Sweeby's comments. Popi, maybe your daughter was hoping for a conversation afterwards. I'm frequently shocked by the way increasingly young girls dress. But I don't have a teenage daughter so I really don't know what it's like for the parents to find the right path to tread on such issues. I suspect tv doesn't help, especially if the parents don't give some guidance as to what is appropriate viewing. I especially don't like it when parents put tv's in each child's bedroom.

I don't think most of mine start next month, but: Homeland The Affair The Americans Rectify Billions: this one is not my favorite as I can't stand most of the actors, but I am loyal to Damian Lewis who I loved in Homeland and in The Forsyte Saga, so I will watch it. Bloodline The Fall (BBC) Gee, just typing that list out made me eager. I just rewatched all of Homeland to prepare for the next season and heard today it won't start until January :(

I don't have cable, but I watch a lot of PBS. I like cooking shows and documentaries the best.

My husband is a History Channel addict...I watch lots of the discovery channels...some of it is way to much information though!

Jeopardy, Clubm. Not sure how much you're learning from watching it if you didn't pick up on the spelling. ;o) I'm just teasing you, good naturedly. I hope you take it that way.

When we first got cable I was hooked on the Discovery Channel and National Geographic channel. The whole family will watch the educational programs on those channels and no one complains "this is boring." You can learn the most obscure information on those shows. I love them.

I love Jeopardy, too, and This Old House just fascinates me.
I used to watch a lot of sewing programs, when I did a lot of it.

I watch The History Channel, National Geographic, Discover and Food TV.
I rarely watch sit coms but do watch those stupid reality shows too much.

We watch a lot of the History Channel as well as the Discovery Channel.
I like PBS shows, love to catch a cooking show of Julia Childs...she is a hoot to watch.
Sometimes I'm lucky enough to catch a quilting show on PBS, I can't seem to find out just when they are showing!

one time. Oh well I'll blame that on having kids to. lol!!!

We watch Jeopardy every night while we have dinner. I like Animal Planet and Discovery, but I really don't like the History Channel. DH, however, would watch it 24/7.

But for the most part, I like Food Network and HGTV.

I like to watch the Doctors but I hardly ever see it because I work during the day when it's on. For the most part, I don't watch any tv although DH always has it on. I usually read when he's watching tv.

I love the History Channel. We have 3 of them, and I always check them first. Love some PBS shows too.

Tomorrow night is the second episode of Faces of America on PBS. It's wonderful. They take four famous people and do a genealogy on their ancesters and present them with info the guest has never seen. One of the guests tomorrow night is Meryl Streep.
