What would you say? - Long

We were talking to a neighbor last week while we were out on a walk. Her dog came over and attacked my dog. Both dogs were on leashes. The attack was unprovoked. We left and continued our walk. Our dog was walking ok. He was sensitive by the bite. He's a very hairy Pomeranian so we couldn't see the wound. He wouldn't let us touch it. We took a wait and see approach. He wasn't acting himself the next morning so I took him to the vet. The vet said the wound healed itself shut so he just gave him pain pills and antibiotics and said to wait and see. Two days later, the wound opened up and we took him back to the vet. The vet said the wound was abscessing so he put my dog out and gave him stitches and more antibiotics and pain pills. The little guy is feeling better and stitches come out Friday.

We haven't seen this neighbor since the incident. She doesn't know our dog had to have medical attention. We have spent $600 so far and will have another vet visit to take out stitches. We aren't really worried about the vet bill. Our dog is a very much cherished family member. We willingly payed the costs for him to get better. I'm trying to think of what to say to the neighbor if she asks about the bite when we see her. Any suggestions?
