i got a job!!!!!

OMG!!!! I can't believe it!!! I applied at a place near my desired location and they just called and offered me the position! I accepted immediately! I am SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!

Thank you everyone for all the prayers - good thoughts - and boosts of confidence when I needed it.

Will give you more details over the weekend!!!

I think you're very right in keeping your options open & making the decision on which job to accept based on *your* needs & situation, weighing the pro/con of each offer carefully. Don't forget to look @ what the opportunities are offered for career growth & advancement. I have to say that their not interviewing you is a bit concerning to me. You deserve an interview... that doesn't strike me as being very professional. Part of a job interview is a chance for you to ask questions & get a feel for what kind of place it is to work for. Nevertheless, perhaps you are familiar enough with the facility & know other workers enough to not have that lapse be a barrier for you. Best wishes for today's interview. I hope you get an offer there too. Nothing like 2 or more offers to boost the confidence.

You guys are so nice. Tami, good to know cat litter can be used like that. I almost always have a few small bags of it in the car -- only because I usually buy it in quantity and I tend to be lazy about unloading all of it. Kathleen, I was thinking about "cold feet" just this morning. I don't remember such resistance to change when I was young. This change--my new job--is definitely for the better. Not only do I need the money, but I'm aware that I also need more contact with people. Although I love the idea of living and writing in my old farmhouse, and do pretty well by myself, too much isolation isn't good for me. So you'd think I'd have no anxiety whatsoever about going back to work. Ha! Sad to say, I guess it's true that as we get older we find it harder to change our ways. Foggy, my son lives only four miles away, so I could call on him to take the dogs out. I could also call on him to come pull me out of a snowbank. :-)

Here's the deal around here on teacher layoffs. Its a dirty little ploy done by the school authorties to manage the school budget and to circumvent the teacher's union work rules. Every spring, they lay off everyone except for few core tenured teachers and staff. That is done to deny those individuals tenure, thus they are not obligted to hire them back next fall. However, most of the laid off teachers do get job offers fot the next school term. This alloys the school adminstrators to pick who they want to keep next year and dismiss those they don't want without running afoul of union work rules. The new job offers do not always carry a raise from the year before. The adminstrators argue that their budgets and load for the fall term are not known at the close of the school year - Hah! Why do they try so hard to determine the next term's class size and demand pre-registration for the fall term? There is some merit to this argument in that the taxing bodies may not have decided the budget for the fall term by the close of the present school year. School Principals complain of getting caught in a budget trap if they don't use the 'lay-off' game as a hedge. So who gets hurt? The struggling newly minted teacher? The lay-off game distorts economic data and forcasting. It looks different in spring than in fall. The problem is, the laid-off teacher has no guarantee that he/she has a job next fall.

You have no idea how relieved I am. Considering I have only been looking since July (I thought it would take longer) I feel a HUGE weight is lifted off my shoulders and I can breathe a sigh of relief.

I'm going Friday to do all the paperwork and get all the details. If I move to Elgin the job is a 25 minute ride to work. I can handle that.

Told my coworkers and they are thrilled. The dean and his assistant have been rooting for me. Then I told my boss. He said he is happy for me. He is going to a conference next week so i only have one more week with him. I fear that he is going to realize just how much work I did there once I am gone. He is relying heavily on the student workers but IMO that isn't realistic. They are only there for a short period of time. The department won't fall apart once I am gone but it will have its share of chaos.

Called my DH and told him. He is happy that I found something and is going to help me move. We both said that this is the first step in our journey to find happiness and whatever it is that we are searching for.

Will tell you more details on Sunday. Going to celebrate this weekend.
