Are you a Petit Papier Patient??

That is a derogatory way of describing a patient who looks up information on the internet and takes the information into his/her doctor.

I am and I won't change. If I didn't do my own research, I'd still be misdiagnosed (I have thyroid disease, but a normal tsh) and I wouldn't know that I had Pernicious Anemia, adrenal insufficiency and a severe Vitamin D deficiency - ALL tests that I had to ask for! From internet searches I knew that PA, AI and Vit. D deficiency were common with Hypothyroidism.

I remember too when my cat was in the vets office.. she had been losing weight and drinking a lot. I thought she had Diabetes. They were going to do a expensive thyroid test on her (I do realize hyperthyroidism is pretty common in cats).. I asked about a glucose test. That took a couple minutes and SURPRISE, the cat had Diabetes.

So are you a Petit Paper Patient or not? Do you ask your doctor for certain tests or medications due to your internet searches?
