Sending prayers your way. I know from experience how scary that is--I had a section of one breast removed years ago due to calcification (thankfully, it was not malignant). Keep a positive attitude and know that the KT prayers are very powerful. Hugs!

I have had two surgical biopsies for calcification on the same breast. Each time they took a very wide section to ensure they got it all and they were not malignant. The two surgeries were about 12 years apart. One breast is smaller than the other, but who cares, I am the only one who knows.

Very unlikely this is life threatening. Will they do a stereotactical procedure -- out patient? In my book 'calcification' might be termed pre-cancerous, but not cancer.

I've had several incidents of calcifications showing up on my original and seconday mammograms. In the end they were Zip. Nada. Nothing.

Calcifications are USUALLY non-cancerous, so try not to worry. Easier said than done, and I'm sure if it were me I would worry. It sounds like your doctor is following the most prudent and safest path by doing a biopsy. Best wishes for good news.

Yes I will have the stereotactical procedure. Do you have experience with this? I am trying to relax today so that I can think clearly and make sure I make the right decisions. Thanks everyone.

You are not alone Satine. All of your KT friends are here to support you. Sending you a big hug. You will get through this. My biopsy was a piece of cake. Far easier than I imagined. If it is cancer, take comfort in that it was caught very early. Take a deep breath, relax and enjoy each day as it comes.

Though my problem wasn't calcification, I have had three biopsies and all turned out to be negative. I'll say a little prayer for you, Satine. I do know I thought about the possibilities every minute of every day, unless i was distracted--I just couldn't force myself not to do this. Hang in there. When is the biopsy?

I'm going for a mammogram in 30 minutes so this is worrying me. I have had one call back.

Just like Kris, above, I had 2 surgeries for calcification on the same breast, some years apart, and both were benign. I'm sure yours will be the same.

I have my mamo appointment next week.

I have had 2 stereotactic biopsies - both negative. My family history holds 1 aunt who had malignant breast cancer. Both of my sisters and my mom had stereotactic biopsies. All negative.

The procedure was challenging for me - having to stay so perfectly still while it was underway. It didn't take that long but the no moving rule was not easy to follow.

I still have calcifications but they don't change from mammo to mammo...so no more biopsies.

Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes. I don't have the biopsy scheduled yet but will soon. I am trying to keep busy-went shopping most of the afternoon but now that Im home you know where my mind is going. I really think the hardest part of this is not having my husband with me. I don't want to worry my kids but have told my sister and of course all of my KT friends. You are a blessing.

Yes, I have been there. It turned out to NOT be cancerous, just pre-cancerous.

The biopsy was done out-patient. I had to be at the hospital at 6 a.m. and was out by 11 a.m. We ate lunch at a restaurant near the hospital right after, DH and I and son and his girlfriend-at-the-time. (They're married now.)

It took about a week, I think, to get the results. Now one of my boobs is smaller than the other. But DH says it doesn't matter.

And it really doesn't, you know.

Satine, you have my prayers. From what everyone is saying on here, it sounds like the odds are most definitely in your favor.

I know this is totally different situation, but when my Mom died 15 years ago, in my arms, I thought I would go insane. I got on the computer and played mindless games, solitaire, free cell, etc. It helped get in the time when I was totally alone.

Just remember ladies, a mammogram lets us know if we need to do something further. The mammogram itself should not be scary. If we didn't have the mammogram, just think how many breast cancers would not be discovered until they were well advanced.

I wonder if there are some stats about this. Imaging has become so fine-tuned that more 'maybes' are showing up; more procedures done. Unless people are holding back, this thread alone would indicate that -- like prostate -- we might be as well served doing more 'watching and waiting' and fewer biopsies.

Anyone have resources for studies on this?

Satine -- My first stereotactic procedure was very uncomfortable. I was facedown on a table with my breast through a cut-out. My back ached. The procedure was so slow I wondered if it was the doctor's first time -- and it HURT. Next time I was faceup in a bed with the head raised. It was painless. It beats surgical biopsies -- I've had three of those. (I'm 72.)
