I feel VERY fortunate here in Ohio. We got what you did, Flamey, but later in the day on Sunday on into Sunday night. Some wind gusts measured 80 mph. My power only flashed/flickered and I don't see any major damage. My cable and internet were down for almost 24 hrs. BUT all around me the power went off and a lot of it is still off. They're predicting some power may take up till next Sunday to be restored. All the schools are closed for the 2nd day. Major clean ups everywhere from downed trees, etc. The power company is shorthanded because they'd sent workers/equipment down south to help there. They've been recalled.

Gosh.. I would have been scared to death living out in the woods like you do with no power. It does get really boring without electricity, doesn't it? Ben Franklin is my hero. lol

My son was supposed to be in Beaumont TX with the Power Co from MI, but they rerouted them to Little Rock AK--If ya see a handsome hunk in a blue & white Consumers truck, thats him---LOL

It is amazing. I am 75 miles off of the Gulf on the "Clean" side, Flamey is at over 500 miles inland on the "Dirty Side".

I got no damage at all. Amazing!

Yep, without power, we live with farmers' schedule. We get up when the sun is up and we go to bed when the sun is down =o)

Our company was opened yesterday for those employees that could come in. They had power from generators. That's what I needed. My power wheelchair was in need to recharge and I was glad to be able to do so while I was working.

My 2nd plan was bringing it to the nearby hospital for recharge.

Fortunately, power at my house came back as I was coming through the door. I have DSL and that worked still. People with Comcast are still out of luck even if they have power.

My sister signed a contract with Comcast to power her phone as well and that was a big mistake. She had power the day after the storm and couldn't get in touch with anyone.

Cellular lines are reserved to the Home Security unit during the day. It works on and off only early in the morning or late in the evening.

So, those of us that were smart enough to keep an old corded phone could still use AT&T landline for communication. It's so important because I had so many friends and relatives checking on us and they were happy when their calls went through. It also kept us from getting bored.

Yep, without power, there's not much to do but read or talk. Guess, I could crochet something but it was hot and humid for awhile and I didn't even want to touch anything that is warm.

Well, glad to hear you're ok and we'll get back to normal life soon.

Gayle, you're right about it being unbelievable. I'm 200 miles away and you should see my damage!! I still have electrical wires on the ground. The trees are off the roof, but I have limbs everywhere and these dang wires!! It's scary.

We had about 60 MPH winds for a bit and some steady soft rain at least where I am. some trees down around me but neighborhood pretty good. Our power went out at 8:48 PM but mine came back on at 10:00 am Sunday morning.
Our 24/7 Texas News channel (CableOne) is on and showing all the action going on in Houston and Galveston and surrounding areas the devastation down there is horrific and the distribution centers have cars and people lined up for miles they get 2 bags of Ice a case or two o bottled water and a box of MREs. Churches have set up centers with hundreds of volunteers the National Guard from Texas and from all over the country are all helping out I think there are thousands of Utility volunteers from all over the country pouring in trying to get power back on to millions of homes They say 500,000 are back on. The Gov and Pres are right now touring the whole area via Helicopter FEMA has sent a lot of supplies but there are still coordinating problems as to where people can go for help. Whole neighborhoods are absolutely demolished.

Sorry you have a mess to clean up. Glad your power is back on, though. We got some high winds and the power went out for about 3 minutes. I need to find the stupid flashlight. The kids have a bad habit of playing with it and not putting it back in the junk drawer. So, by the time Lauren found a smaller flashlight, the lights came back on.

Big, big winds here - no power from 4:00 a.m. until 8:30 that night (Not nearly as bad as Flamey's situation!)

Tree limbs down all over our yard - got to start in today working on it. We worked on my mom's yard yesterday.

So, just curious, how many times did you try flipping the light switch on? LOL That's a long time to be out of power. We were very lucky. We just had lots of tree debris but nothing was damaged. There are still lots of people without power in my town but thankfully, we were very lucky that we didn't lose power. Glad you're not "in the dark" anymore! :-)

Actually, I don't think I flipped any light switches on except on purpose, so I would know when the power came back on, Jen. I did, however, head down into the garage to get the leaf blower once, when I was tired of sweeping the damp leaves off the back deck! I came to my senses partway down the stairs! Ack. No power to plug it into. Duh.

According to the paper, there were several reasons it took as long as it did to get it back. One, some of our local crews were in Houston. And two, we've had so much rain from Gustav and Ike that the trucks were getting mired in the mud on the easements and they had to have bulldozers there to pull them around.

But we have our power back on and it's so great. I really feel for the people who don't have it and won't have it for weeks or months yet. It's so hard to do anything without power and things pile up on ya.

I, for one, am very glad you can get to the chocolate again. ;o) I was feeling your pain.

Glad you're back...it was all I could do not to call you but i didn't want to run the battery down on your cell...so go enjoy the ELECTRICITY!!

Welcome back to the light, Flamey. You rode out quite a storm and I'm glad to hear that you and the fur kids made it through it safe and sound. I bet it gets very dark at your house surrounded by all those large trees and woods.

It was really dark the first night because of the storm, but the 2nd night there was a lot of moonshine. NOT that kind of moonshine, sillies! Drat, though, come to think of it!

Stephanie, I'm going to have so many secret stashes in this house from now on.... I just have to remember where I hide it all!

I thought of you when I saw where Ike was Sunday morning. So glad to hear you are safe. Cousins in KS got pretty wet, but no damage, by the sounds.

We were without power from 6pm to about 1:30am. Good thing we had just brought home the generator from my dad's. DH ran one cord to the sump pump, and one to the tv and one light in the living room. So at least we had light, tv and no wet basement! We have at least one tree down, on the boat, and blocking the doors to the shed. Don't know if it damaged the boat or the shed, yet. DH's chain saw is in pieces, took it in for a tune up and it's to worn out to fix. Called insurance co. They are sending a check for the clean up, and if the boat or shed are damaged, they will take care of that then.

I am so glad to hear that you are okay. I don't know about the rest of you but I would have made a terrible pioneer woman. No electricity! Do you know what that means, no dish washer, no washer and dryer, no computer, no tv, no hair dryer, no spa, no dvd and I could go on and on, but I am getting depressed. vique

Been in your shoes before---only our was thanks to an ice storm. Either way, it's not fun, is it?

Rita, Woody's been gone since August 28, hunting in CO. Since then we've had Gustav rain- 7", Ike wind and rain- 4" and loss of power and lots of cleanup. He's going to owe me a vacation for sure, and he's not back for another 12 days! lol

I've sort of had a mini-vacation of my own though, but don't tell HIM that! I haven't cooked anything since he left, except I have boiled some eggs. This has been a nice break for me, I even re-painted my craft room between storms.

Flamey I'm glad to read everything is back to normal. See there is a reason to carry food in your purse! ;0)

I handed out a sucker to a GK one time in public and somebody finally said, gee you are a really prepared Grandmother lol.

Men are always gone when stuff breaks or happens it's Murphy's law....I think ;0)
