Well, if your floor is shaking and you hear screams coming through your computer speakers, it is me, jumping up and down and making a lot of noise. I got the job!! Woo hoo! With every passing day and no phone call, I was worrying more and more. I kept thinking about the interview questions and berating myself... "Why didn't I mention X?", "I can believe I forgot to tell her about X!". This morning I got a call from the HR department wanting to set up a time for me to come and fill out the new hire paperwork. I told them I was happy to, but no one had called to tell me I got the job. The woman claimed that she had new hire paperwork with my name on it right in front of her, so some wires got crossed big time! I was transferred to my supervisor (the woman who interviewed me) who confirmed that yes, she wants to offer me the position! I have been working towards this for quite a while, which makes this so satisfying. It is entry-level, the pay is low and I couldn't be happier! Thank you again for your feedback and great advice... Nicole

UPDATE!! But first . . . DS has a very expensive, beautifully tailored suit that he wore to my sister's wedding seven years ago. It's still fits him great but looks just awful on him. I felt so sorry for him at the wedding because he just looked miserable. I had him try it on recently and his shoulders were scrunched up and chest puffed out. I told him to relax and he said he was relaxed! He feels so uncomfortable and not at ease so he doesn't hold himself right. So I went with Lynn's suggestion. For his second interview he wore a brown tweed sports coat with suede elbow patches, a blue gingham shirt, NO TIE, olive chinos and brown dress shoes. He was so comfortable and confident looking! Anway he had his second interview yesterday and they hired him on the spot!! First job interview and bam! I'm so proud of him. He's so personable and smart I should have known it would have worked out that way. As he was leaving, he jokingly asked if he was dressed okay. They said they loved it and that he looked like a liberal arts college professor. He said that he almost wore a tie and one of the interviewers said that would have been a big mistake because that would have indicated that he was out of touch with Austin culture - something very important to the store. So I guess "dress for the job you're applying for" held true in this instance. This job will be just perfect for him because he's going to graduate school in the Fall and they are willing to be flexible with his schedule.

well, they have 3 more interviews this week with experienced trainers. They said he really "knows his stuff",and he was really good about motivating them to do more than they thought they could. She said he needs to be louder and a little more "personable". She said he needs to talk to the "trainee" about things other than the training session. He is a huge (6'6" 275 lbs muscle), bald head, and could be a little scary looking to some I guess, and he is very quiet! LOL and Shy. If he makes it past this interview, they will have one more practical interview next week. He should know by Monday. He's not a talker, schmoozer, (totally opposite of me! lol) so that will take a little work, but I know he can do it. Man, I hope he can get the next interview! His whole life, he has had a hard time making a lot of friends. He is like his Dad, after they speak with some one, I will ask them something like, "how is their job hunt going?" Or, "What happened to their daughter that was in the hospital?" and both of them will say, I didn't ask, if they wanted me to know they would have told me! LOL For years I've told them, no, that's not true. You need to ask questions for people to know that you are interested in them and their lives. DH went out duck hunting ALL season long, many years ago, with an old friend (that we hadn't seen or heard from in a year). Then 3 weeks later I spoke with his wife when she called to tell me she had her baby. uh, WHAT? I didn't even know she was pregnant. Neither did DH! lol OMG>.. I asked him what exactly did they talk about out there for hours, oh, hunting and fishing! sheesh! lol

Well I'm done with the first part. I don't want to say too much in case someone from the firm reads this forum. But I could have definitely gone casual -- I was immediately shown to a conference room and given the test. The only employee I saw was a guy wearing a t shirt and cargo shorts who met me at the door and handed me the test and collected it at the end. And the test was surprisingly hard given the level of position I applied for so who knows if there will even be an interview. Oh well -- even if it nothing comes of it, it was definitely an interesting way to dip my toes in the job market.
