What do you think of the "moment of truth" in the AT&T commercial, where they talk about which of their kids they like best?

What a STUPID commercial!!!!

I have two daughters. I love BOTH! There is no way, I could say I love one more than the other.

That commercial irks me to pieces.

Don't like that one and don't like the one with the women in the greenhouse. She really belittles her husband. My husband and I both really dislike that one.

Interesting reads and emotions here. I'm not an AT&T subscriber, user or stock holder. We use Verizon for our cell and hard wire phone provider. Anyway, a router works by taking the internet signal and splitting it into different addresses within your home network. In order to be able to do this the router must be receiving the signal to begin with. Regular routers receive their signals from modems (cable or satellite). If you are going to be grabbing a wireless signal similar to the way a cell phone receives you need a mobile modem:router. So, to answer your first question, AT&T is being honest with you. You need an AT&T mobile modem:router to receive the AT&T wireless signal, just like you need an AT&T compatible cell phone to receive an AT&T cell phone signal. The answer to your second question is no. Your D-link wireless router can't receive the wireless AT&T signal so it will not work. AT&T is not the only game in town, so to speak, when it comes to wireless phone and internet service. If you don't like them and/or don't trust them what are you doing using them?

No worries on the hijacking. This thread ended up way more interesting than it started and got to the crux of the matter, even if I didn't realize that's I was really asking. The consensus thing is interesting and so right on. I am constantly looking for validation for my choices. I consider this to be a character flaw and I'm trying to change my ways. So the way I deal with things is to not tell anyone what our decision is (well other than a few people like the friend who has been weighing in on design decisions for years and people who I know will nod politely even if they hate it). It is easier for me to be all confident and take on the attitude of "it's my kitchen and therefore the opinions of my DH and I are the only that matter" when I've not opened myself up to hearing negative comments (real and perceived) about our choices. The second I hear something negative it takes a little joy out of it for me. Like I said, it's a character flaw. That's why I don't ask for opinions on GW unless I REALLY want to know the good the bad and the ugly of it. Because people here are honest. That's a good thing, by the way, because it's the kind of honestly you won't get from the "oh that's nice" nodders and sometimes you really need that. You'll notice, for instance, that I never came back to this thread to mention what the decision actually was or to report that I did make one (thankfully just a few days after starting this thread so I could move on with my life). People here tend to be much more positive when they see a kitchen finished not only because they see the whole vision completed but also because they realize that it's not changing now so there is no need to say anything but positive comments (that reaffirm those pesky decisions). The nightmare: a finished kitchen post that only gets a handful of comments because you know people are doing the whole "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything." And of course that's when you wish you had asked for some truthful opinions while you were making the decisions.

I'm watching more and more on the internet and most of the time I can avoid commercials altogether this way. I'm glad I put the money toward DSL rather than cable or satellite. It's curious when people talk about what's effective or not in advertising. It's hard to know what really *will* work. It's interesting how some of the best known ads did nothing for sales. For instance, the Apple Macintosh "1984" ad is talked about to this day but didn't achieve anywhere near what they hoped and it's dubious whether it did anything for sales. Publicity, yes, sales though are the desired result. And many people who never saw them in their lives still know and talk about the now infamous "Burma Shave signs" but Burma Shave is long gone. Interesting too. Unique and relatively cheap advertising, had people talking up the product name, name recognition was there and even had people *looking* for the ads! (Not unlike the "Hillside Singers" Coke commercial where people called the stations asking them to play the commercial!) But unfortunately for Burma Shave, few people would buy the product. Seeing hospitals advertising is totally repugnant to me. Prescription medicines, CAT scan procedures and otherwise is likewise annoying. Any supposed "professional" advertising is laughable to me and they lose credibility AFAIC. In a way it's kind of sad to see. One of the big name well-known, high profile attorneys for criminal defense can't get a case these days and is essentially ambulance chasing now. Lately I just haven't seen many memorable commercials, that is memorable in a positive way. I guess the one where the cat gets the bloodhound to help find the litter box is shake your head OK. I do enjoy some of the foreign commercials when they do shows with them as the star. Many places have less uptight people so they can have more fun with them. I really laughed at the German "need glasses?" (Brille notig?) commercial. And the political commercials have already started. Heavy advertising for Wisconsin here lately. Although I realie that the market area includes portions of Wisconsin, we seldom would get it in the regular elections. Suggests to me either the elections are extremely urgent (to the parties) and/or ad rates have dropped. In a few months it'll start heavy political ads nationwide so I'll need to change batteries in the remote to keep up with changing channels. One good thing about the state "shutdown". No more commercials about how "the other side" won't listen to reason - call them and tell them you want __________.

"I can tell you friends of mine Philadelphia Scrapple's fine ... try it once and you'll agree - that it's the food for you and me", used to be on the Detroit radio station (WJR?) that read the funnies on Sundays ... and many of the ones in Canada were the same. That radio program about advertising, "Under the Influence" with Terry O'Reilly is produced by Pirate Toronto and has appeared for years on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), and was/is part of the reciprocal programming that our national broadcaster carries on with PBS/NPR/PRI (Public Radio International). He had an interesting segment on the history and operation of the "Oscars" this weekend, including how Louis B. Mayer worked toward getting it started ... which happened in 1929, my year of birth, and referred to how Mary Pickford had a substantial hand in that, as well ... and won best actress a year of so later. I have to agree with the hubby and wife one. I keep hoping that he will say that he wished she had married the other guy too. What a B!

I agree with you on both commercials. AND what about the bud lite where the girl insults the guy so? Don't guys have feelings? Don't buy bud lite anyway BUT!!!

I love two commercials out now--the one with the little boy wearing the Darth Vader suit who tries to use his magical powers. Dad comes home, and he tries to hokus pokus the car. Dad pushes his remote from the kitchen window to start the lights or the motor, and the kid jumps. Cute. The other one I like is the Subaru commercial where the dad gives instructions to his 6 year old daughter behind the wheel of the car about rules for her driving the car, and as he hands her the keys, she turns into an 18 year old and he asks her to call him when she gets there, but not while driving.

I hate the Greek yogurt commercial where the old Greek lady with the babushka calls the pretty girl a whore, basically. Awful.

My favorite i the Sonic with the Ghost in the car
I think the photog is great on the ghost but with it was longer so I could see the guy and his chains better
I dont rememer seeing the commercials you all mentioned

I agree with SheilaJoyce. I love the Darth Vader and the father/daughter commercials. But my favorite is for Keebler Cookies. Two sisters come home from school and there's only one cookie in the package. The older one lets the younger one have it, then a second cookie magically appears (by an elf).

I HATE that Keebler commercial. Why didn't they just cut the cookie in half? And, that mopey eyed younger kid? She'll learn to live to be a beggar. And, how dumb is the older sister....there was one cookie!, you give it to the kid sister, turn around and there's ANOTHER COOKIE! Wouldn't a kid of natural intellegence question that?

Commercials are one of my banes. How dumb do advertising agencies think Americans are? I don't buy products that have stupid making advertising.

I probably miss out on some good stuff but, my mind feels good.

I like the Keebler commercial. It teaches that good things come to those who are generous. It's the only commercial I can recall that has a moral.

I like the Keebler commercial as well, Jell48, and think the same lessons are taught. Refreshing in an all about me society. Kids are kids!

I'm glad to see the Darth Vadar commercial resurface, it is classic and I would be surprised if it doesn't find a place in the best of the best commercials that they highlight from time to time. The Deutsch agency did good!

We have tivo but I enjoy many of the commercials, sometimes they are better than the shows! LOL!!! At least till the politicians get hold of the airwaves.

I love the Toyota commerical where the adult kids are worried about their parents not getting out and enjoying life (which they are), yet the kids are sitting at home with no life. It's hilarious.
