These are the people who are so connected to their electronics! I have an iphone and I can't imagine what else someone might need. But, Apple and other companies keep coming up with more features that our techie friends just have to have, and right now!

The last thing I lined up for was tickets to my daughters' dance recital. No way for an electronic toy.

I was just emailing my sister my thoughts on this...just don't get it either. Techie or not, how could this be anyone's priority to this degree?

why computer companies make sure that most of the elementary

they are probably the same people that are protesting big
corporations too! lol I'd seen plenty of interviews
with Occupy protesters and probably 90% of them were holding
their cells phones! pretty funny! lol

Just heard on the radio that someone PAID another person to wait in line for him for the new iPhone. $55 for 4 hours, I think it was. The "waiter" was waiting for himself, so he got extra cash for doing so.

It also happens for "hot" movies, books, tickets....

No way would I wait for any of that. We barely will wait for a table in a restaurant.... dh is not patient when it comes to lines.

The only thing I can think is 'bragging rights'. No way would I ever do it-or wait in line for hours to have a chance of only one of 5 TV's on Black Friday. Its like a competition. I don't get it.

The number one reason is Apple allows them to buy two and they turn around and sell them for up to a thousand dollars, sometimes more. There are even people who pay other people just to wait in line for them so it can be very profitable. The initial investment is 199.00 so it's worth their while. There are people who want to be the "FIRST' to get their new toy but realize it's more than a phone, it's a t.v., you can skype on it, it's a flashlight, a gps, watch movies and videos, play games, have a conference call etc etc. My daughter works for Apple so I'm savvy to some of the inside stuff as she's in upper management. Suffice it to say Apple runs it's business like DeBeers.

I'm surprised to hear it's only $199 . I honestly thought it would be more.

They're $199.00 if you are a new customer or maybe upgrade. They're around $600.00 if you're not new or not eligible to upgrade. I have the iPhone 4 and my hubby has the 4s. I don't think of us as sheep, controlled by the media. We both need cell phones. I use mine to go online, I use the maps feature often because we recently moved. I use yelp online to find new stores or restaurants. I useIng phone to find addresses and phone numbers for free. I use the notes section to write my grocery list and run the calculator simultaneously to ensure I stick to my budget. I put my future appointments on it and set reminders to alert me. I have my music on it and when I'm driving, I just hook it up to my car and listen to it versus the 1 song for every 5 commercial radio stations we have here. We use the camera and video recorder often. My hubby uses his for work - mostly the timer and calculator. It has blue tooth so I turn it on when I'm driving and the calls go through my speakers rather than having to wear an ear piece. I think of it as a useful tool. When we looked at the other cell phones out there and weighed our options, why wouldn't we chose the best option for us? What phone do you have?

You don't have to stand in line. My SiL bought his by phone from the local Sprint store and my DD just went over and picked it up. No line, no fuss. Walked in, walked out.

I tried to explain why I had one as eloquently as possible but you had to take it to another level. I can do everything with my BlackBerry that you do with your iPhone.

I love it when people still use the BB. I don't own one, I haven't the need for a smartphone yet, but the BB is in my city, and it breaks my heart the troubles they are having.

Shed, you said you rely on the maps feature - haven't you heard that it's all screwed up on the "Latest and Greatest" IPhone?

My Maps and navigation work great on my new Samsung, and it is 4G, and has a slide out keyboard - along with all the other features that your IPhone has. In fact, my old Samsung also had them.

I was in the IT business for decades, and Apple has a history of releasing untested features since day 1 of the MAC.

Lindsey and Monica- I don't recall writing anywhere in my post that the iPhone was the end all, be all of phones. Nowhere did I say that it was perfect and those that don't own one should be banished to circa 1995 Nokia brick phone land. I posted comments relating to my experience with the phone and what I used it for - I find it to be a lot easier to carry the phone around than to carry a box of cd's, a GPS, a phone and address book, etc. I wasn't knocking anybody else's phone. If your blackberry does the same thing - then that's awesome for you. Then you of all people should know where I am coming from because you obviously enjoy and use the same features that I spoke about.

As far as the maps feature - I haven't had a problem. I don't use it every single day, but when I do, I end up where I need to be. It in fact works in new build locations where our Magellan GPS's don't.

My post was directed towards Arkansas, nobody else. SHE is the one that made a comment calling iPhone users "sheeple", which I find demeaning. There are 150 million iPhones out there. As of right now, there were over 257,000,000 computers sold this year. Are all of these people sheep for buying them? There were over 96,000,000 births this year. Are these people sheep for reporoducing like everybody else? There were over 13,960 organ transplants this year. Are these people sheep for having one? There are over 50 million Blackberrys sold. Does this make you a sheep for owning one? It must be going by AR girl logic...Obviously you can't compare apples to oranges, but just because you might like or need or do the same thing somebody else does, doesn't make you a mind numbing sheep.

Monica - As I stated above, I never called the IPhone the latest and greatest. It simply put works for me. If you like your Samsung then congrats. I've worked with Apple products in the past and I've worked with PC's and I prefer apple. Is that a jab at somebody with a PC - No...it's what I prefer. So I'm not quite sure why you both feel the need to defend the phones you have and rag on the iPhone since nobody's even talking about your phones...???

I have the iphone 4s. I am still learning some new features after all this time! DH bought them with our phone plan. I do like it a lot and couldn't care less what anyone thinks. To each his own.

and I have a dinosaur for a phone. Really, just a phone. No internet, no maps, no music.... I even have texts blocked.

My cell phone is just that, a phone.

Now, if I ever manage to see better, I could see myself owning/using something smaller than my monitor to go online. :)

I have a cell phone that is just a phone, no bells and whistles. I'm completely satisfied with it.

Shed - I don't have a cell phone like yours but if I could get reception here, I would. My son is a computer guru as well as all things electronic. He was always a PC guy with an iPhone and an iPad as well as an Apple TV box. He recently switched over to a Macbook laptop and has them all integrated together. I think this is one of the things that make it appealing to the masses.

I agree with ShedTheChrysalis that the comment was not funny but nasty. Millions of the smartest people in the world use an Iphone for their work and living. To group people together as a mass is always not a good idea to do. She would have been "sheepish" if she sat and took that remark as okay. It wasn't.

Well, back in the day, I camped out for tickets to U2 and Springsteen. Waited for hours to get into the Boston Esplanade on Fourth of July. Went to the midnight showing of one of the Star Wars movies. Had a great time with the people in the lines every time, had a great time at the events. I figure it's about the same with camping out for the iPhone - there's lots of hype, sure, but there's a weird sort of fun to it all.

My original post was to ask why people stood in line for days to get an IPHONE, now people are fighting about the types of phones they use. Some people here get off track easily.

Thanks yayagirl :). I also agree with you Enjoyingspring - the topic did go off course. I for one would not wait in line or camp out for a phone, tv, black Friday, whatever. I'd rather sleep and pay a few bucks more stress free, but to each his own.

As I said above, my post was not meant to glorify one phone over another or talk down to anyone who doesn't use a specific phone. Whatever works for you, works for you. My post was in response to a comment I found very negative. Whether anybody thinks it was or not is besides the point. I felt it was and I said something. Now that I've said my peace (again) I'm over it. This takes too much time and effort for something so petty.

Though I've not camped out in line for anything, I do get it. It's part of the experience that these people share together. I have stood in line for a couple of hours for a remarkable dining experience and enjoyed every minute of it. The standing AND the eating. We did it twice! A best friend stood in line with her daughter for I don't know how long for one of the Harry Potter books and made it sound like so much fun that I was jealous!

I'm fascinated with my husband's IPhone (he doesn't have this newest version). It will get passed down to me when he gets around to upgrading. We find that our electronic devices enrich, enhance, and improve our lives but neither of us are afraid to be without them.

If I had that kind of passion about anything, I can think of a lot worse things than hanging out with a bunch of like-minded sheeples.

I never understood the minight madness or Day After Christmas stuff either. It's 'consumer scary' to me.
