I thought I'd read that some Chinese formula did make it into the United States, via Mexico.

There is no punishment severe enough for the people who made the decision to use Melamine in the formula.

I think we should stop importing Chinese food altogether since they don't seem to accept the concept of food safety. The buck comes first.

One of my friends will NOT buy ANYTHING made in China. But, honest, do you realize, how hard it is to bypass made in China products?

I try to avoid 'made in China' when I can too. I had to put my cat to sleep because of renal failure a week before the pet food comtamination story came out. I don't know for a fact that contaminated food killed her. She suffered. I can't imagine purposely adding that poison to another living creatures food whether it be human or animal.

Another thing to be on the lookout for is 'made in China' candy. My kids love the Halloween gummy eyeballs. I noticed last year that all of the gummy stuff was made in CHina. I refused to let my kids have it. Now New Zealand is reporting tainted candy. Our country is looking into it. I prefer to avoid it altogether.

I always try not to buy from China also. I always have tried to by Made In The USA products. Even my cars. My last 2 have been made in Canada, but, I have no problem with that.
I think they should stop all the importing from China (and a few other countries) Bring jobs back to the US, and quit out sourcing everything.

I agree, it is horrible. I also do not buy anything made in China, if I can keep from it. Unfortunately, the shoes I wear, Crocs, are made in China, and I have bad knees and hips and they are the only comfortable shoes for me. I do not like buying imported food. I try to not buy produce from Mexico. I will buy tomatoes from Canada, but I buy made in USA food if I can. I admit...I do buy grapes from Chile for the possums, but I don't eat them. (My husband will tho.)

I agree, Leslie, but our government has no interest in us.
It is just fat cats with their hands in the pocket of other fat cats. We pay the taxes and we get the shaft!

I have heard some big drug companies have stuff manufactured in China. I don't remember details but I doubt it says so on your prescriptions drug where it was made. I heard this morning on the news China has found the same stuff that was in baby formula in baby cereal and crackers. I try to look to see where stuff is manufactured lately but it's almost impossible to get stuff not made in China sometimes. Sometimes it seems nothing is made in the U.S.A. Remember when Wal-Mart touted they try to use US made products as part of their advertising? I now doubt if you can find much in their stores that isn't made over seas. My frustration level at this is about as high as can be.

I check to see that any food products I buy are NOT made or exported from or contain things from China.

I buy NOTHING imported from china. Just think how bad life is for the people who live there. Mothers who have lost children because their government allows companies /manufacturers to get away with this . I don't even enter dollar stores anymore.

I too try to watch where products are made, but I did find some really nice storage boxes at KMart. Easy fit lids, and so far seem to last that are made in Canada. I really like them better than Rubbermade. The ones I got yesterday are KIS from Brampton ON. They are great!

Many of our vitamins come from China. Not a happy thought, is it?

I feel sorry for the babies too. The people responsible should be prosecuted for attempted murder. I think a couple babies did die. Wouldn't you just go nuts if your baby was affected? I would.

I too avoid made in China products, but it is frighteningly difficult.

The raw materials for making asprin comes from China. They're the only makers of the raw materials.

I am usually so good at reading labels. Tonight I bought some hair spray. After I sprayed it in my hair, I read the small print. The company is in the US, but it was made in China. Darn!

Someone suggested that the makers should be jailed for life.

By the way, I heard that a few years ago the fastest growing segment of the housing situation in the U.S. was in one aspect of the total - jail space.

I disagree about jailing the manufacturers for life.

Putting someone in jail costs a great deal of money, annually and, though in some places the inmates are required to do productive work in order to partially pay their way, it doesn't cover the full cost of their incarceration.

My suggestion is that they put the makers in jail for, say, 5 years ...

... and half of the food provided for them be the food that they manufactured. If they refuse to eat that food, eating only the other food, the jail reduces the amount of other food provided, down to only a quarter of the total food, and eventually reduces the amount of other food to zero.

That way, they have a choice: eat their own shi! ... or starve.

If their government has rules in place to prohibit such manufacture, some of the negligent inspectors should get some jail time under the same conditions ...

... if not, it should be some of the legislators who had chosen not to make such rules!

But - let's not forget ...

... there are many in our society who claim that the less government regulation, the better ... I imagine that most of you have heard such sentiments expressed, locally.

I too try to avoid China-made products, but as suggested, it's naive to think you can avoid it all. They're into everything and let's face it, in the All-American cheap society in which we live, you don't know where everything is made (since the labels do NOT tell the whole story) and that's the source of so much.

I'm a frugal person at heart but not such that I promote this type of stuff. I buy premium pet food for my pets. I don't skimp there. But sadly, because of the contracted manufacture of products that's how even the top name brands got stuck by the pet food scare.

Curious how we'll invade countries for killing people but I guess it depends on what businesses profit therefrom.
