I am surprised that this thread is still around, hey! I am surprised that I am still around. If this forum was used in the way I had always imagined that it would be used, then there would be more threads like this. Testing out a story line or an idea and inviting ones peers to criticise is a healthy activity for all who participate. Yet for it to be beneficial it is not sufficient to say that the storyline is crap or to pass judgement. To say that something is crap and to outline why you think that way and how things may be improved is intelligent, and helpful, not only to the writer being criticised but to anyone else who may drop by and to the critic who has made an effort to articulate a view. Perhaps Eddie was showboating perhaps it was the worst story ever to appear on the GW or perhaps it is the ONLY story written by someone brave enough to do it. If anyone has an alternative story, and remember that writing, unlike watching baseball, is NOT a spectator sport (that is called reading) please post it.

Did anyone mention Dudley Moore in "10"?!?!? (besides my first GF Bo Derrik...;-)) G(D that was funny! When he's mumbling with his mouth packed full after the dentist... The "I'll alert the media" comment from the butler, when he's gonna take a bath... The "Airplane" series... Johnny saying, "WHERE did you get those shoes...and that dresss, Ohhh!" to the distraught woman. Zoolander, Dodgeball...good stuff! "Oh my god, they're Break-dance fighting!" The Money Pit... When Tom Hanks is "caught" in the ceiling?!?!? (I think I almost "went" when that scene happened!) Beverly Hills Cop I was pretty damn funny too. Faron

All mentioned already but here's mine: Julie and Julia - the Julia bits not the Julie bits - when Julia first arrives in France and is served Trout a la Meuniere and has an epiphany - starting her life-long love affair with French food and cooking. Eat, Drink, Man, Woman Tampopo Chocolat - "It's not my favorite." "It's not my favorite." "It's not my favorite." Finally - "THIS is my favorite." The top two without a doubt for me: Big Night - I can't tell you how much I love Stanley Tucci and Tony Shalhoub. Love, love, love them both. And number one ---- Babette's Feast - a movie that explains without words how food and sensuality are intertwined and the marriage between them is a human necessity. How Babette brought joy to the utterly sense-starved, ascetic townsfolk and their bitter, frigid and abstinent lives, lifting them at least for one evening to a truer meaning of life than they had ever let themselves experience. That Babette gave up everything to "feed" them in this manner, to share her gifts, to thank them, to deliver a dream... still an astonishing film.

I saw it today on an impulse. I went to Sears to pick up saw blades and the lady in front of me was in a hurry because she was going to see Julia and Julie and was afraid she'd be late. I looked at my watch and thought 'Hey, why not?' I thoroughly enjoyed it. Think I'll make Boeuf Bourguignonne A La Julia this weekend. Here's an interesting note. Those of you who have seen the movie know that there was a little disagreement among the original 3 authors of Mastering the Art of French Cooking as to how much each contributed. I have the 2 volume set which was published in 1983 and it's interesting to note that while all 3 are listed as authors for Volume one there are only 2 authors for Volume two- Julia and Simca. I know - it's a minor point.
