I have some lovely crystal and sterling silver wine glasses for serving, big fat comfy cushions to sit on (not as far a fall to the floor if we tend to imbibe a bit much) and fruit slices to go well with the wine and cheese and crackers.!
Are you going to share your recipe and technique chubby rat?
I very rarely serve any of my homemade wines or mead before 2 years of aging. I have to make 3 or 4 batches a year to keep up with the demand. LOL

They should look good. I sure did plant enough. The thing with lily bulbs is that I consider them a great investment as they come back year after year. I bought a whole pile of annuals yesterday and those get pricey and really add up. They do give so much color to the garden the whole summer long but next year, there I go having to buy the lot all over again.

Juellie, yes my son knits, crochets and quilts. I taught him how to knit and crochet while he was in law school and visiting here at home during breaks, and he picked it up fast. He lives on the east coast and we live on the west coast, so he likes to while away the long flights with knitting, etc. He would meet with friends in a New York City coffee shop on Friday afternoons during his law school years to sip, chat and do needlework. He took classes in woodworking and quilting once he graduated, but he really does not have the time for such crafts with his long work hours and weeks these days. The young man who owns the table cloth, which I remodeled to fit his table, was a fellow classmate in law school and a friend of one of my son's good friends. The kid was looking for a resource, and since he knew my son could crochet, asked if he could finish and repair the cloth. I felt sorry for him. He was the only one in his family not tied down with children and career, so he was designated to go through his mother's things, save or dispose of them accordingly, and close up the house, all this while in law school. I lost my mother when I was 12, and so I felt a certain sympathy for him in his simple request to get her crocheted tablecloth repaired and remodeled so that he could use it. While I have crocheted a few tablecloths, I have never done anything like this, and I took longer than I should have because I was so afraid of ruining her work. Her stitches were tiny; the knots she used to tie off each motif impossible to locate and undo; the old, delicate cotton thread broke easily when I unraveled it; and I was overwhelmed with what I found myself volunteering to do. But it all worked out after years of worry and struggle, and so I am content.

Oh my God, what have my neighbors done. Used MG Garden Soil..... ONLY.

It's actually funny that this thread popped up last week. I went through a similar situation myself. Saw some neighbors doing something - or I should say about to do something - very ill-advised, horticulturally speaking, and sent them a friendly email about it. Saying I couldn't help but notice and didn't want them to waste their money. I didn't even want to be so bold as to walk over there while they were outside. No need to invade someone's "personal space". But of course I saw this weekend that they did exactly what I told them not to do, a few days after getting the email which they acknowledged. I won't go into details but it involved planting a some shrubs. I mean, WTF? That guy who has 100+ blooming BLEs like rhododendrons and camellias in his garden? Couldn't possibly know anything about them! (actually similar to ilovemytree's situation, but with a plant less forgiving than lilacs and they were making even more mistakes) It's safe to assume these days that people are just going to be willfully stupid and that there's nothing you can do about it, unless they are close friends or family. And even then...

My first time protecting my Roses. Have you done yours? Pics Please

I will take pics...Been sick for a few days... I am beginning to think that for some of us growing 'roses' is an ALL season project..Not only do I have to protect them but I also have to watch out they don't desiccate in the winter too..If the snow should not fall and the bare ground is exposed to sub 0 temps or higher with whipping winds, the ground can go bone dry even in winter..So here I am watering all my roses deeply on the first given warm day above 40.....I know that many die just to a lack of moisture in the dead of winter... Thanks for the encouragement.. It does fell like I want to garden out there too since my temp is a balmy 60 degrees right now! Back to the low 20's by day and single digits by Saturday night with a bare ground again..My bulbs are starting to pop up...lol

We stood out in the carport and strained it last night,I felt like a moonshiner! LOL!

OMG I do understand that! LOL Wasn't it spectacular feeling?

I got my very first wine recipe from my high school science teacher when I was a freshman in the senior science class. (40 years ago next month)When I poured it off the first time I felt like a mad scientist rather than a moonshiner. In a dark cornered cement block wall, copper wire stung bright lights room in the basement. Similar to a scene from Frankenstein LOL It was some AWSOME wine for my first time. I stripped one of the sweet cherry trees in my Mom and Dads yard. Got a excrement-load of punishment but enough juice to make 10 gal of cherry wine and used 3 gal of honey instead of sugar and 1 TBspoon +1 tsp of brewers yeast per gal liquid. After 30 days of fermenting it was more like a brandy or liquor. 1&1/2 years later most of it became gifts for relatives the following Christmas. My Mom who was not drinker or teetotaler got pretty toasted on about 4 oz. & broke her toe stumbling into the kitchen table leg. She took the recipe and would not give it back. To this day I have not been able to duplicate that first homemade Cherry wine.

I bottled it in some Boones Fsrm bottles I had kept...who knows why I kept them! LOL! The one site I went to said you can keep it in empty milk cartone so I figured these bottles would be ok. It was fun! Now I want to make more...but I'd never drink it all!

I guess you'd call it a sweet wine Stacy...not sure.I don't actually drink much wine.I know I don't like the dark, bitter ones. Are they the dry ones? This tastes sorta like some wine I bought in a box once...the pinkish colored one.
I googled"homemade wine" and got tons of sites.I'm not even sure which site I used,I wrote the recipe down and closed the window! They seem to all basically be the same.Water,yeast,sugar,fruit.Then let sit and ferment til the gas is gone from it.Then you strain it through cheesecloth.I got that at WalMart in the craft section.straining it is a pain in the butt! LOL!
Maybe for the dry, you'd use less sugar? Not sure.
