Olympics - anyone watching?

I know glenda is watching - she's worried about those cheerleaders!!

I thought the opening ceremony was wonderfully conceived. It was a fascinating blend of pagentry, beautiiful choreography, high tech LED screen, music, lights, and fireworks. The 2000 drummers and their lighted drums were mesmerizing. Even the advertisements have been creative and interesting.

Right now it's the parade of nations. I hope I can stay awake unti it's over.

I won't watch it all, it is close to my bedtime.
I thought the opening was AWESOME, to say the very least!

I've managed to stay up to see the torch being lit. It was a spectacular opening ceremony.

DH and I just traveled to the site where the winter olympics were held in the 1960's. It takes about an hour to get to but it is the cutest village now with quant stores and eateries. We attended the 'Bark Festival', a fundraiser for the humane society. The ice skating rink (on top of mountain) is an annual field trip for many of the schools around here. It's all very impressive, still. I don't know what they do with summer olympic buildings after the olympics but our winter olympic site at 'Squaw Valley' is still wonderful. It's built in 'Swiss Chalet' style. Can you say early 60s? Good luck, Chicago!

Now watching again here on the east coast.The men are on now. It's amazing what they can do. I do wonder why they wear such goofy (to my eye) outfits. The women look so elegant. As ley Wagner, Gracie Gold and Polina Edmunds are the US Olympic Women's Team.They are so young, especially Polina. I think of what a dorky teenager I was at age 15. I do like Scott Hamilton's announcing. He skated at my local club, where I skated as a kid. Dick Button was so critical of the skaters,although he obviously cared very much. Last night they showed all the past Olympic female skaters who were there to watch. It was so good to see them again.

I recall seeing a shortened version of this back in my high school days which would have been in the 70s. I think it was for a music appreciation class. I remember some studio clips and their famous rooftop concert. So when I saw this advertised I though, "Well they probably had a lot of unused footage from that shorter video so now they are trying to capitalize on it. I'll bet a lot of it was boring stuff." So not going to spend the dough for that. I'm a Beatles fan, but I had a feeling it would be a tough slog. But yes, that rooftop concert . . . !!!!!! Proves that they weren't just a studio talent, that they could crank out pure rock and roll like nobody's business. All those early years playing clubs . . . I have seen Beatles cover bands twice, and that music rocks in live performance no matter who is playing it, it's just pure rock and roll genius. RE Yoko, I just have no appreciation for her talent, but I'd hardly blame her for the Beatles break up. Most bands do break up as the artists mature into different individual interests. And yes, there was something creepy about her sitting there, but she has said in interviews that John wanted her to be there. I imagine she was kind of bored so that's probably a lot of the vibe.

Saw it on the plane on the way to Alaska many moons ago. I also found it educational. If you are a deep fan you probably saw it when it first came out. I appreciate many of the songs this band put out. That was the extent of my knowledge about them. I don't feel better for knowing the TMI on them. Because someone is a 'famous entertainer' does not mean we need to know all their dirty laundry. It's unfortunate how many have tragic stories that over shadow the talent.

What a great show. My family is on notice, until the 25th it's everybody for himself, mother is watching the Olympics.

The Opening Ceremonies were incredible!

Kinda marred by the camera shots of President Bush looking totally bored out of his mind, and slapping the American Flag against his leg...

They really raised the bar for the next opening in Vancouver, didn't they?

The show was fantastic, I watched every minute of it, 4.5 hours, phew. lol And I wasn't surprised that NBC threw that shot of the Bush's into it, not at all, typical NBC. I was a tad bored too, watching all those teams marching in, not knowing when the US would arrive. I'm sure he knew about what time they would arrive and he was checking his watch to see how much longer they would have to wait until they could salute our team. I loved how the team all sought them out as they marched and waved wildly towards them.

The sight of 2008 precision drummers will stay with me for a long time, as well as the maritime episode and the torch lighting, that was very cool. It was all good. China has a huge history to celebrate and they did themselves proud.

The entire ceremony was truly magnificant!

I watched the Parade of Nations until China's turn, and then the phone rang and I missed it. I fell asleep with the TV on and it re-aired this morning, so I was able to see it.

What about that little boy that survived the earthquake - he was so precious. When asked why he went back to save two of his classmates after the earthquake, he told everyone that he was a hall monitor and that was his responsibility. Kids are just incredible!!

Anyway, hats off to China for an all time wonderful Opening Ceremony. Now if they would only put the effort into beefing up the quality and safety of their products!!

It was spectacular, fantastic. Imaginative, and such a showcase of the power of people, so many instances of one person being supported by the multitudes. Beautiful imagery. I hope that there will be some sort of aftermarket DVD of the whole event.

I was disappointed that NBC didn't get any shots of the stadium from the side as the fireworks went off. If you haven't seen it from that angle, google it! or look on NPR.org,they have a nice photogallery up now.

All the children were adorable in their Costumes. What a shame that there was so much to look at you can't obsorb it all.

On my little 36" Screen TV everything was beautiful. You lucky dogs with big Screen TV's, I need a "invite" next time something like this comes on TV.

It just occured to me that all those athletes missed the opening cermonies - they were waiting outside to enter the stadium. Even if there were jumbo screens for them to watch doesn't it seem a shame that they miss out on seeing it live?
I think somehow they should change that arrangement.
