Here's What We Did All Day (2 pics)

Here's my 4 daughters.

L-R Shana, Melanie, Monica, Haley. The picture is a 10x13 and didn't fit on my scanner very well.

Same problem with this one. I couldn't get all of my Grandson Quintin on here. And Jayden was...being Jayden.

It's really hard to get all of them smiling good and holding still. You can tell who's kids are who's by the color of their shirts. Melanie, down in front is between her 2.

Gosh what beautiful smiles everyone has...well, everyone but Jayden (and he's adorable anyway! LOL) You have a great looking family and I know you are proud of them.

At our house, we try to live like every day is Earth Day, because it truly is. Happy Good Friday and Happy Earth Day to all. I remember the first Earth Day and I have to say that in terms of polluted air and water, we've cleaned up a lot of our mess since then but still have quite a ways to go. If you remember the first Earth Day in 1970, did you do anything to celebrate it? And, if so, what? I was ten years old and I remember we rode our bicycles to school instead of taking the bus (of course, the school buses ran anyway, so it was a largely symbolic gesture). I also remember Earth Day buttons that we wore. At our school, we went outside with trashbags and picked up trash not only around the school but in the surrounding neighborhood too. It seems like the school cafeteria had some sort of special meal, but not I cannot remember what it was. The amazing thing about the very first Earth Day was that it was very much a grassroots (no pun intended) effort. Remember that personal computers were in their infancy then, and there were no cell phones, no social networking media, no 24-hour-news-stations to spread the word, and not much advance attention given to it by the handful of TV networks we had back then. What there was back then was millions of people who used Earth Day to make a statement about the ecological state of our world and our desire to make it better.

Hi guys! No, I didn't finally jump over the ledge :) I just took a small hiatus. I boarded "charliedawg" in a kennel, packed the suitcases, got the family in the car and got the heck out of here. WHEW! If I ever build a house again (which I highly doubt I will) I will definitely put mental health vacation $$$$ in my budget. LOL Tragusa, I'm not glad that you had all of the problems but I'm glad to know that it worked out for you so I know it will all be ok fo me too. GC will be back tomorrow. She has ALWAYS made things perfect so I'm not sure why I doubted it now. I think I just felt out of control because she is gone. I'm not the type that needs to be in control of such a big project, I guess ya'll figured that out by now.

LOL! You guys are too funny. It's funny that I don't feel "creative". I do feel determined and inspired when it comes to home projects, but I honestly don't see myself as being creative! I will say that paint pens are my new favorite. I had no idea how much I'd love using them! I thought it would be like using a marker, but it's not. It's truly like having a very stiff, very rigid paint brush. The way the paint goes on is very smooth and liquid; not at all like a marker. My mind is racing now, trying to come up with other wall word ideas. This was *so* easy. I plugged in my quote and size on a few Wall Words sites, and for the size I did, it would have cost me around $45 just for the lettering. Totallyblessed, yes the kitchen is (98%) done. If you haven't found it yet, it's on a thread called "It almost killed us, but my cabinets are yellow!" The paint pen I used (Sharpie Oil Based) was what I used. I bought a really, really thick pen (mistake) and had to carefully turn the pen to only allow the tip to do some of the more delicate lines. Filling in the thicker areas was easy. Next time, I'll start with a very narrow pen, and then come back to fill in with a thicker pen. Brutus, you're funny. I don't think I'd pass muster with the folks at HGTV. My style isn't modern, I'm not trying to sell my house, and I'm not 22, LOL! Isn't that the standard on HGTV these days?

What a mess. To begin with, you're mixing up some of the terms, which makes for confusion. But you obviously have a lot more common sense than the previous owners and "handymen"! I'm not trying to figure out the whole thing. But I will just comment on a few obvious things: * the header over the opening (the fifth pic up from the bottom). It's absolutely inadequately supported. It should have been long enough to be supported on either side by a built-up post (several 2x4s or 2x6s nailed together--and there are even Code provisions for the pattern of that nailing. And even this assumes there is a bearing beam in the basement/crawlspace beneath. *Yes, those shims are inadequate and don't even provide full support. Maybe they figured a lot of caulking/glue would hold it altogether. *Those random 2x4s laid flat don't provide any useful support. *The third photo from the top reveals five-six studs removed and replaced with one misinstalled diagonal 2x4. You ask, "Is this support up to Code?" Uh, no. To come up with the appropriate fixes requires an inspection of the structure of the house, additions and all. "Up to Code." What a horrifying idea! Your helpful neighbours are taking the wrong approach. What you can't see can hurt you--especially if your house experiences a sudden structural failure. (Not to mention whatever electrical/plumbing "improvements" the previous owners made.) If the municipality provides a free inspection, I would take advantage of it and follow their advice. What a great looking family! And they ALL have such really nice smiles...except Jayden, but then you can't have everything perfect. I am sure he was tired of all that hoopla of having pictures taken. Poor little guy!

I love it. Its a beauty of a picture! Jayden will someday look at it and say "I didn't act like that did I?" LOL

I can see you in all the girls Leslie. But Shana looks like the spitting image of you!

They all look so tan...do they spend a lot of time at the cabin with you?

That must have been a very busy afternoon. I know it is very hard to get so many looking perfect all at the same time.

We had these done at The Picture People. My last picture like this only had 8 grandkids. Nick the oldest, is in his 2nd year of college (in Sept.) and Nathan will be a sophomore in 2 more days. I wanted another one before they all started drifting off on their own lives paths.
I felt sorry for Haley, Jayden's mom. Jayden is almost 3, and doesn't talk but a few words. I don't know what his problem is. He's having his hearing tested next week. I don't know if he's autistic or what. He can be so sweet, then...
The trick for little one's is hold the babies out till last. Then tell the older ones to watch the photographer, not the kids/babies making a fuss.
Poor gal, she sure tried to catch him not bawling. But he wasn't having it.
It's funny how different my girls all look to me, and not to others. I do think Melanie (navy shirt) and Haley (beige shirt) look somewhat alike.

I meant to say too that they took the pictures, we all went and ate lunch, and came back. The showed us the pictures on a big monitor. After she took our different orders, it took 6 minutes to get them. We got there at 11:00, and went home by 2:00.

Oh, wow, those are fabulous pictures, Leslie. Real keepers, for sure! You DO have the most wonderful bunch of family. Everyone looks so happy and tan.

I wouldn't worry too much about Jayden, some kids just seem to wait to start jabbering, I had a friend whose son did the same thing, once he hit about 5, he wouldn't stop. I hope that's the case for Jayden.

Those are EXCELLENT! You have a beautiful family, my friend.
I hope things turn out well for Jayden. My niece (now 40) started talking just in time for kindergarten. Wouldn't do anything but "grunt" until she was almost five!

Don't worry about Jayden until after his hearing test. He may just not be ready to talk. We worried about my nephew for a few years. He'll be six next month. Now we can't shut him up! For him, he had two sisters, that were fifteen and seventeen when he was born. They did all the talking for him. They never shut up, either! He never needed to talk. Now they've both moved out in the last couple of years and what a difference! Something that might help is, when you ask him if he wants something, ask in a way that requires an answer. Don't ask if he wants some milk. Ask him if he wants a drink. If he answers yes in his usual way, then ask what he wants. Don't give him the answer in the question. Find something that he's REALLY interested in. Evan's thing is animals of all kinds. He even knew stuff his preschool teacher didn't. She didn't believe him when he corrected her about where one lived. He went home and told his parents what she had said, they went online and printed the info for him to take to school the next time. He is one smart little boy, and Jayden is too. He'll be talking in no time, then you'll wish he was quiet again!
