What a great solution! I think it looks terrific and I bet if you weren't pointing it out I'd probably not notice the paint transition as a "problem spot" at all.

What a great idea. I have a wall in my FR?K that I have a problem with also. This won't work for me but it does in your room.

That looks great! So it's right on the wall with trim around it? You printed that phrase out on computer paper? When I was reading I wasn't sure what to expect but that really does fit nice there.

Sheesharee, I printed the phrase on computer paper, but transferred the letters onto the wall with carbon paper and a pencil. Then I went back over the carbon outline with a paint pen. And yes, it's all just on the wall. I figured it would be easy enough to change if I ever needed to. The trim is just nailed in, and I'd just have to prime over the lettering. It was much easier to do it right on the wall than it was to try to find or make a sign to the exact (not completely square or plumb) space between the crown and door trim.

Hmm.. still not grasping. The work beautifully looks huge. That fit on an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper or you printed it out in sections and pieced it together?

Sheesharee, here is a photo of the "template" I used. Yes, the lettering was on 3 different sheets of paper, set on "landscape" and on 400 font. (Didn't even know if the computer would let me go that large, but it did.)

I thought that was a plaque. Great job and it transitions perfectly. You sure are a creative chick, aren't ya!!!!!

Beautifully done! It really does look like the lettering is on a wooden plaque. I probably shouldn't show my DH this since he went through the trouble to cut the wood for my kitchen sign. : /

Oh wow! This is something that should be sent into one of the "creative solutions" features on HGTV or in home and garden magazines or some such. It's absolute genius!

When my mother was painting her home, the issue of how to transition color was very much considered. I think she ended up doing a whole wall in a color she didn't particularly want for that area because of an "awkward" seam. This is a fantastic and creative solution to what i'm guessing is a common dilemma.

It looks amazing. LOve, Love it!! I know you outlined with a paint pen, but then did you paint black paint to fill in, or just color in the entire portion of the letter with the paint pen? (can you tell I've never used a paint pen??!!! LOL).

I once again give you huge high fives!! I always get excited when I see you've posted, and this clever idea is genius & so beautifully executed! Seriously, you ARE clever, but I have ?...do you make "housecalls"???

My mom was a very creative woman who didn't have much discretionary money, and I think it's even more rewarding to see what we can do with our resources. My daughter & I enjoy doing that, too, and have come up with some fun ideas thru the years. You, however, are the QUEEN!!

When do these things come to you, in your sleep? I would have never thought of that in a million years. You need a problem solving show on HGTV.

LOL! You guys are too funny. It's funny that I don't feel "creative". I do feel determined and inspired when it comes to home projects, but I honestly don't see myself as being creative!

I will say that paint pens are my new favorite. I had no idea how much I'd love using them! I thought it would be like using a marker, but it's not. It's truly like having a very stiff, very rigid paint brush. The way the paint goes on is very smooth and liquid; not at all like a marker. My mind is racing now, trying to come up with other wall word ideas. This was *so* easy. I plugged in my quote and size on a few Wall Words sites, and for the size I did, it would have cost me around $45 just for the lettering.

Totallyblessed, yes the kitchen is (98%) done. If you haven't found it yet, it's on a thread called "It almost killed us, but my cabinets are yellow!"

The paint pen I used (Sharpie Oil Based) was what I used. I bought a really, really thick pen (mistake) and had to carefully turn the pen to only allow the tip to do some of the more delicate lines. Filling in the thicker areas was easy. Next time, I'll start with a very narrow pen, and then come back to fill in with a thicker pen.

Brutus, you're funny. I don't think I'd pass muster with the folks at HGTV. My style isn't modern, I'm not trying to sell my house, and I'm not 22, LOL! Isn't that the standard on HGTV these days?

Just the fact that you have taste would disqualify you. LOL

reno_fan, I really have a bone to pick with you. You make everything look way too easy. In fact, I think you should be required to add a disclaimer about this to your posts. Ok, just kidding about that. Kind of. ;-)

I'm pretty much a lurker these days because I'm not in a decorating mode at the present but I really enjoy the ideas and energy on this forum. This post is one that inspired me to try something new. In my defense, I feel that I'm a fairly "crafty" person. I had some of the supplies required for this project and picked up a few new ones to give it a try. I'm just glad that I practiced on paper first. It was a MESS. I have no idea how you did such a perfect job with such an elegant font (and over your head, standing on a ladder I would imagine.) I intentionally chose a chunkier font and still had terrible results. Oh my, what imperfect (wobbly!) lines with my lettering. Needless to say, I'm happy that I didn't try this on my walls first.

Just wanted say that I admire your results even MORE now. Have you ever thought of doing some of your projects professionally? You have the perfect business name already-- Live Beautifully.

Hope you'll continue to inspire us! I'll just enjoy them from afar from now on. :p

Oh no! Fussy, I'm so sorry it was difficult. I think maybe the trick was to not stop at all while going over the letters with the paint pen. Believe me, my lines are wobbly too, but you just don't notice it as much from afar. The worst places were where I would stop/start. If I kept the pen moving, it made for much better results.

I have the same issue except the doorway is arched--it's an open room (living room and kitchen) the only way I can figure to change it is to remove the arched doorway (drywall only, no trim) so there's a natural stopping point but DH won't allow it. I'm stuck using the same color in both rooms...darn it!
