Hi Brent... thank very much for your feedback! Always nice to hear some others' opinions. Sorry about all the pics... I knew there were lots so gave fair warning in the subject heading + resized them all! :) I, too, like evergreens... but what was the deciding factor for me was that the city planted 7+ spruce outside my fence in the park already (see pic #5). Just thought it may have been a bit much for my taste. Part of the reason for the paper birches was to give some different colours (white bark + turns nice yellow in the fall). They say that birches survive in poor soil conditions... but I still think they are a bit finicky. So we'll see how they do... When I have guests we usually sit up on the deck or are in the hot tub. People generally don't venture down into the lawn area. I guess not much to look at down there yet until stuff starts growing up and filling in. The river rock was actually an extension of the rock that I put in along the south side of the house last year... more for functionality than anything else. I just found that the south side of the house was frying the grass... no amount of watering would save it so cut it out and installed the decorative rock. I kind of like the effect of the rock and the bluestem... reminds me of the cottage. But of course different strokes for different folks. The kids factor could be an issue sometime down the road (gulp). I'm a single guy for now with no kids... but you never know that can always change...! Laura, thanks, my camera is actually an older model Sony-for-Doofuses, auto-everything: DSC T700. I just keep half-pressing the shutter until it auto-focuses on exactly what I want to capture. I got it to replace a big bulky Sony when my baby came along and I needed a small one I could slip into a pocket and chase him around with. Still no word on the PSA site about the sale. Last year's was on July 31st in Merrill Center at Katy, Texas. Will let you know as soon as I see any more info. Bill, what is that last hibiscus, the gold and orange? It is SPECTACULAR! Sunseeker, those gorgeous hibiscus I have are in 3-gallon pots on my deck. I found them, two to a pot, at Lowe's for $7! If I overwinter them in the garage I'll easily get several years enjoyment from them, so I think they're great value and a lot of color in a small space. If you put them in the ground where the temps don't go below 30 they should come back year after year, but they'll also get pretty big. Keep them in a container and pruned and they'll be nice and compact and still bloom prolifically if you feed them frequently. They also only need part sun in most of the southern half of the country.

I was at the sale this morning as well and scored a nice thick trunked Brewster Lychee at a bargain. I'll post a picture of it tomorrow. I also noticed some unusual Thai and Vietnamese varietes of Mango that I was tempted to get but due to my cars limited backseat space for the ride home could not get. They were a few huge Jaboticaba for $30.00 each that if I had a pickup truck would have went with me. I really enjoy The Palm Beach Rare Fruit Council sales, they always have nice trees and if you look hard there are some at real bargain prices.

Thanks for letting me know those are Flor tiles, Sue! Even better! They would likely work better than the rug I have in my kitchen because the ends of the rug are bulky and get in the way of the trash compactor opening. I have been having a hard time finding the right long rug for the hallway that will run from our front door to the mudroom, too. I will have to keep an eye out for good deals on flor tiles while we do that part of our remodel. I have been really enjoying the home decor forum here now that our kitchen is mostly done, and we will be starting on the rest of the house this spring. We just got cafe curtains hung in the kitchen and dining room today, so it was nice to see your curtains, too. Just enough for privacy, but still lets the light in...

Where, exactly, were these pics taken, and when? I'm asking b/c we live in Houston & Ike destroyed so much of our SE TX coastal area (I won't even go into the devastation I've seen. Almost a yr. later I still get overwhelmed at some of the remnants)) and I would like to send these pics to my OH relatives with documentation. . . Yeah, we all still hear about Katrina & New Orleans, but Ike was just as devastating for Galveston, Surfside (had a story on our local news today about Surfside rebuilding) Gichrist, Crystal Beach, High Island, etc., etc. . . .Fed. money hasn't come to these places anywhere near what's been pumped into N.O. But the rainbow at the cross is stunning.

These were taking right when you start going into Crystal Beach....we were there last yr right after Ike and I as so shocked. You are sooo right about N.O no money that I can see is helping this area at all......
They are getting galveston up and running pretty good but still along way to go....
Crystl, Gilchrist etc.....still have a ways to go but they are rebuilding. These pics were taken just yesterday....I will try and take more when we go again so I can show you some of the rebuilding that is getting done....Stacy

I forgot to mention Kim.....Syd is a purell addict.....we have been thinking of getting her help LOL not really but she is addicted.....she even took her big bottle to college with her and last count when she got her new purse...she had 7 yes 7 travel size bottles in her purse...who knows what is in her car!
