You're a little ahead of us. I've had a few blooms, but just here and there. No huge inflos have opened up yet, although my large Penang Peach is getting close. 7 (Seven!) inflos on that one.

What's the story on the fallen tree? Looks like the boy is upset about his climbing tree? LOL!

Also, if you EVER have to trim back that no-ID pink (white with pink edges). That's really a nice one! Where did you get it?

We had a nasty storm come thru a few weeks ago and I had a Desert Rose, a small barely-rooted Penang Peach, as well as the Divine sitting in pots on the deck railing. They were blown off and unpotted. Lost some good roots. No other breakage though. I stopped watering them and stuck them in a protected hot location and it looks like they are recovering. Sure don't want to lose that Divine! It has an inflow, but it's drying up.

Do you have 'Intense Rainbow'? We've had nearly ideal growing conditions for a month and it looks like this plant is developing black tip on one branch. Can't figure it out. Might be a delayed reaction to winter/late Spring stress. Otherwise the plant looks healthy and it has several inflos as well. I seem to recall this plant has a predisposition toward black-tip or maybe it was the Nebel's Rainbow. Can't remember.

Currently in bloom: Red Samoan, Lani, Psycho White, Orange Rainbow (seedling) and soon Penang Peach. Hilo Beauty had an old inflow which flowered a few blooms this Spring then dropped off.

I see developing inflos on Kimo, Royal Hawaiian, Jeannie Moragne, Jr., Intense Rainbow, and Nebel's Rainbow.

Should be a good year.

Wow you have some nice blooms on your plumeria! I have a lot of them that have nice inflos but not much blooming right now. My 'Elsie' is wrapping up right now. 'Penang Peach' should be blooming soon, hopefully by the weekend, and then I have around a dozen or so that rooted and are throwing out tons of inflos.

Hello Everyone..

MaryJane...I have a layer of Fir Bark on the top of my pots..I like to make the "Gritty Mix " for some of my C & S as well as some of my Plumies...so the larger pieces of Fir Bark i just place on top to protect some of the roots that may be exposed...I like the look of it as well!

Dave....Seven inflos on the PP? You are so lucky!!!

The little boy in the picture was with his mother as we pulled up to take pictures of this old treasure...his mother wanted to take a pic of him with the tree, but he didnt want anything to do with it...so i snapped a pic..thought it was sute..love those little ones!!!
I wish the story was a better one..but he just didnt want to participate...LOL

Sorry to hear of the pots being knocked over...I know that DIvine will pull through!!! Keep my fingers crossed for you!!!

I dont have an Intense Rainbow...sounds like it is having a tough start to the season...

The Noid Pink came from McDonalds Nursery here in VB...
It was the very first tree for me..it has been a great bloomer and i just had a seed pod open from last season...

Great blossoms, congrats! I have two blooming right now, a noid white with pink stripes on the back, and Bill's Psycho white had a inflo on it, and I left it alone. It started to bloom. I have a bunch of others getting ready to open as well.

I was meaning to ask you. Is that last plumeia picture the pink noid?

How large is your PEnang Peach from Sonia? Did she tell you that it wouldn't be blooming size for a while? I am just surprised that it wouldn't bloom this year. I bought 2 from her and both bloomed right away. The 2nd one I bought from her is going to open it's first bloom any day now.

BO emailed me. I was glad to hear from her. Did she email you yet? SHe had a small mishap with the celadine you sent her. I felt pretty bad for her. Also, she told me that her Penag Peach is blooming as well. I will probobly not get inflos on the other since I cut it to root a cutting. I love Penang Peach. Easily in my top 3 favs right now but with so many rooting and growing these impressive inflos who knows!

I had to wrap the containers to protect them from the intense heat that we had last week..the temps reached 100 here in VB..and thenn the temps on my back deck were scortching...so i had to protect them somehow...the otheres near the fance i will sink..but the ones on top..had to have something...i didnt want to move them becuase i will soon tie them to the railing and they will stay there for the summer...Most of the time the high temps dont really hurt them...but since they didnt have the full set of leaves to naturally protect them..i had to give them a little extra help...i dont like the white...it will come down soon. when the temps level off...

Andrew...The pics of the Noid Pind is the 4th and the 6th pics from the top...this was my very first tree..so it is very sentimental to me...it is a healthy tree that pushes alot on inflos...i love it!!!

My PP from Sonjia is coming along...but doenst look like it will bloom for me..just looks to little...but ill keep my fingers crossed..but i dont think so...

I hanen't heard from Bo..Did she have a problem with her Celadine? I have another one that i was rooting for here anyway..i hope she is alright!!!

Your Desert Roses look so healthy. Got a new one from Home Depot and it broke off three out of four branches in the storm. I had it on the deck railing like yours.

I just can't seem to win with these things!

Thai Super Round is gorgeous. I really prefer the large rounded overlapping-petaled flowers.

Looks like your palms fared well despite your big snow.

Is that red flower (9th picture) an epiphyllum? I also collect epiphyllums, love their bright colors and size, and easy culture.

Laura, all your landscaping looks great! Love the NOID pink and the fat petals on Super Round. I would be bouncing up and down with excitement if my J105 had a big bud like yours; they are such a gorgeous flower. I'm really enjoying even the foliage on mine which grows upward nicely. The fragrance is supposed to be very nice, too. Fill us in when it blooms, okay?

Hi Jen..Thank you for the nice compliments...you have some real beauties...the size of your inflos are just gorgeous.

The Palms are pretty easy to handle now..i just have to cut the dead fronds every spring..and then just fertilize twice a summer....the neighbors really like to comment when i climb up the ladder to prune...I have been relying on my son to help prune them..The ladder seeems to get higher and higher everytime i get up there...LOL...its a good thing that i have a big son to help out!!! He's pretty good at cutting the palms when needed!!!!

Hey Dave...the palms did have a troubled winter....i did have to cut them back more so than noramal...they dont have the normal size heads that i usually have at this time of the year...but i didnt loose any...So im happy!!

My Dr's seem to do well on the back deck....here is another view of one of my small ones...LOL...it looks like the "backside.." LMAO!!!

I did take off the white liner from my pots...they work great when i think the temps get to hot on the deck...the temps can get really high...the liner is reusable..so its easy to put back on the pots...here is a pic of the pots after i took the liner off this afternoon.

Wow, beautiful pics! Everything looks fantastic! That gardenia looks awesome! Those blooms are gigantic! Your plumerias all look really happy. Your going to get a lot more blooms this season! And those desert roses look amazing too. I have terrible luck with desert rose. This year is my second attempt and I already had a lot of bud and leaf drop after the first week I bought it. At least it stopped doing that now and hopefully it will start growing back too (and it kept a few buds so at least I will enjoy some blooms!).
Your agave looks great as always and your palms are looking fantastic too! It looks like they laughed at last winter, you have very robust palmettos!

WOW Laura! Those are all cuttings!! You have me beat now!! Looks really good. Keep up the good work. Most of all my cuttings have rooted. All the cuttings from CA you gave me, and the others I got are all rooted except for maybe 3 now.

Today I started moving them from the water bottles to 1 gal. milk jugs. Even with cuttings the bottles in half length wise, I still lost a bunch of roots. I know that they will recover.

My Mimi's Home Pride now has roots all the way at the bottom of the milk jug. I am so happy with this as even Mimi has a real hard time with rooting them. She said it can take up to 8 months for them to root!

BTW....I just got the email from Jungle Jacks. My order was just shipped out yesterday.

Laura, those photos are terrific--I especially love the hibiscus. Wow, what are you feeding that gardenia? It's massive! And perfect-looking! A real winner.

I just love the "backside" of that desert rose, too. I wonder if it's cultivar Adenium Obesum Derriere ;P.

That's quite a collection of cuttings you're rooting. You'll be swimming in flowers in a couple of years. I heard you'd had to do some surgery to fit them all in your suitcase, LOL!

Yes...it was like cutting down a set of antlers..LMAO..i was stopped ny the airline...showed them my badge...so they did help me a bit...but some of the big boys ahd to be cut down..You think that i could pack before? well...LOL i can pack clothes and Plumeria in all sorts of places....i did it though!!! the all made it home, i only had two break..one of them was a lavender...which is my favorite of all....MMMMmmm thats the very best... : )
and a Guillots Sunset....but all are doing well..

Beautiful hibiscus! The ones I had indoors all have a ton of buds and I cant wait until it makes a nice and steady number of blooms. That rain lily looks beautiful! I always wanted to try those, but I dont have enough room (all the room I have in the ground goes to the plumerias, bananas, palms, cannas, elephant ears, and other tropicals.

Laura, thanks, my camera is actually an older model Sony-for-Doofuses, auto-everything: DSC T700. I just keep half-pressing the shutter until it auto-focuses on exactly what I want to capture. I got it to replace a big bulky Sony when my baby came along and I needed a small one I could slip into a pocket and chase him around with. Still no word on the PSA site about the sale. Last year's was on July 31st in Merrill Center at Katy, Texas. Will let you know as soon as I see any more info.

Bill, what is that last hibiscus, the gold and orange? It is SPECTACULAR!

Sunseeker, those gorgeous hibiscus I have are in 3-gallon pots on my deck. I found them, two to a pot, at Lowe's for $7! If I overwinter them in the garage I'll easily get several years enjoyment from them, so I think they're great value and a lot of color in a small space. If you put them in the ground where the temps don't go below 30 they should come back year after year, but they'll also get pretty big. Keep them in a container and pruned and they'll be nice and compact and still bloom prolifically if you feed them frequently. They also only need part sun in most of the southern half of the country.

My plumerias aren't doing much yet. Lots of inflos but no flowers open. I guess it wasn't very warm while I was gone... So in the meantime I'm enjoying all of your pictures.
Who's going to Jungle Jack's Open House? Wouldn't it be fun to meet again? This time I'll be really close...
Bill, that big white hibiscus - is that 'Bridal Veil'?
Mine looks just like that and yes, the flowers are spectacular. The growth habit seems a little rangy, though.

Jandey- I have no idea of the variety. It is about 8 feet high and fighting for space with my 9 foot gardenia a monster that pumps out big flowers( and next to a 15 foot lipstick hibiscus. I try to help it grab space. I don't recall where I purchased this one.
Iso- That white is very old and I do not know the variety either. It is not a very healthy looking plant to me but it is a survivor and never fails to put out flowers. I planted it the same time as my lipsticks which are towering now while it is still about 4 foot tall. Hope your trip to Germany was delightful. Bill

Thanks for the warm 'welcome back'. This trip was different because I got my mom out of the nursing home and stayed with her in her old appartment for the 3 weeks. Unfortunately she is not strong enough to live there by herself again... But I treasure the time we had together.
Back to the hibiscus: Bill, I found the white one also listed as 'Bride'. Yes, it never looks really healthy, but I've had it for over 20 years, and it blooms every year with 8 inch flowers which have a slight pink blush until they open white. The picture of the one underneath the white one seems to be of 'Crown of Bohemia'. Just as old and ALWAYS in bloom. In the winter the flowers are almost completely orange, in the summer almost completely golden yellow. The temperature makes more of a difference in the amount of orange present than in any other plant I know. Love that plant.
Boy, we need some heat so my plumeria get going and I can talk about them.
