To choose all those paint colors would have made me a stressed out mess - you did a terrific job. Love all the rooms, the house is wonderful.

I plan on a creamy color in my kitchen with other light colored accents like white trim perhaps, but my greatest fear is that I won't be able to keep the surfaces clean. There is white trim in my bedroom and I obsess about the dust that accumulates on the baseboards and marks that appear mysteriously, so much so that I think I've worn off the paint in some tiny areas! It's only been two years, perhaps I'll get over it and relax; but I am worried about the kitchen with painted beadboard.

I would want to live there all the time, not just in summer. So adorable from top to bottom! Nicely done!

Thanks for much for all the nice feedback. The hardest part was choosing everything while not being there. This house is 1.5 hours from home, so I did a lot of measuring during our mid-construction visits and crossed my fingers a lot. I ordered about 30 light fixtures in one weekend last spring!

loribee, Quiet Moments is shown in the master bedroom closet and the den/TV room. I also just used it here at home in DS1's attic bedroom. I love it in all 3 spots! The Healing Aloe is so very light, it's a barely-there color. The master bath is that color, and you can see the color better there, I think, because of the contrast with the peach-beige tile. But on the ceiling in the bedroom, it almost looks white.

We do go down here for weekends in winter, and I have to say it's been hard to leave when it's time to go home. This "part-time" house is much nicer than our full-time house! Eventually we'll spend about 1/2 the year there, when we retire...which is a long way off. But I hope to spend most of this summer there.

dianalo, the house is in RI. The colors are so not me -- I'm not a 'pastel' person -- but they seemed right for this house. (I love being able to have two houses w/ two different personalities!) I found the very light floors especially scary, but I'm getting used to them. ;)

sable, I love those chairs too. Got them for $40 on CL and had the cushions recovered. Unfortunately they're not very comfortable but we have 3 other comfy sofas on the first floor!

Sue, I love it! So serene and beautiful! I like all the bright and comfy rooms. I wish I had a beach house like that to hang out in during the winter. I did not read the entire thread, so this may have already been asked and answered. How much time do you spend there?

We spend as many summer weekends as we can there, and sometimes Christmas, and then we try to get down about one weekend a month in the "off season" though it can be hard with the kids' schedules. Two summers ago, I spent 5 weeks there with the kids -- with DH coming down on weekends and then 2 weeks in August. This summer, DH is taking 3 weeks off for the first time ever! I am hoping to spend most of July and August there. We missed all of last summer (house was not completed until the very end of August) so we plan to make up for lost time.

Thank you so much for sharing your house with us. I agree with others that I would never want to go anywhere else once I was settled in. Your choices make the house look so comfortable and inviting! I hope you get to enjoy it much more this summer after all of the work you've done.

DH and I once lived on a resort island while building a house in town. We rented a condo off beach, but were within a short walking distance of the ocean. We had a Christmas picnic on the beach that year.

I am not a pastel person in clothes or furnishings as much, but for some reason, I like the lighter colors for walls and trim. I am going dark in my dining room, den and part of my kitchen in a few weeks and am so nervous. I am hoping that tall ceilings, skylights and white ceilings make it ok. It is definitely outside my comfort zone but was afraid of copying our last house and being stuck in a rut. I had a lot of pale yellow and lavender with white trim and loved how it looked with my darker antique pieces.

Your house makes me question if I should stay with lights or take a risk.... I still have a few weeks to decide...hm....

Funny you should mention magazines. Our architect (who also acted as GC throughout) somehow got our house into a magazine. I think it's a trade magazine for architects and builders; not the sort of thing any of us would necessarily pick up. But they sent a photographer down about a month ago. Not sure when it will be in the magazine or what exactly will be featured, but it's pretty fun to think about. I will also get a little mention as the interior decorator!

jboling... one reason we did this reno was because we have water on 3 sides of the house (1/8-1/4 mile away), but you wouldn't have known it previously because we had very few, small windows -- mostly in little dormers. So this reno opened the house much more to the views. You can see water from every bedroom now! But the best view is from the master bedroom. We have a great view of our beach. From the first floor, you can see the water only from one side of the house -- where the screen porch is off the kitchen.

OK, now you need to show us pictures of the views. :)

timber, those narrow striped rugs are actually FLOR carpet tiles... one of the best inventions for decorating, as far as I'm concerned! I have them all over this house: at every exterior door, in downstairs bath, and in DS1's room (no pic of this room as he was sleeping at the time :)).

Thanks for letting me know those are Flor tiles, Sue! Even better! They would likely work better than the rug I have in my kitchen because the ends of the rug are bulky and get in the way of the trash compactor opening. I have been having a hard time finding the right long rug for the hallway that will run from our front door to the mudroom, too. I will have to keep an eye out for good deals on flor tiles while we do that part of our remodel.

I have been really enjoying the home decor forum here now that our kitchen is mostly done, and we will be starting on the rest of the house this spring. We just got cafe curtains hung in the kitchen and dining room today, so it was nice to see your curtains, too. Just enough for privacy, but still lets the light in...
