Mother in law had had done way back when. In and out. Felt fine. Took her to lunch after.

Wishing him the best of luck. I have had 5 done. 1st 2 was about 13 years ago, just remembered how the pain in the back after....nothing too major.

I had 3 blasted a couple of years ago. I believe it was 1200 blasts per stone....alot. I had a baseball size red welt on my back. To be honest with you...I didn't have the pain from the stones, but I didn't feel good for about a month after.

You get the stones blasted to 'dust'...but you still have to 'pass the dust'! Some of the 'dust' can be a little bit large and you can see them come through....some can hurt.

I am surprised they haven't done something (surgery or lithotripsy) by now...he has been messing with this for a while, right? Sending thoughts and prayers for little pain and great relief!

My husband had it done about 25 years ago. I don't recall that he had any problems with it.

My GDIL has had that done as well as 6 lithotripsies,and they still can't get rid of her stones.They say they are calcium stones,and those are harder to deal with than regular kidney stones,whatever all that means.I do know she is in serious pain almost daily.

DH had it done a few years ago.Had 4 Lithotripsies and felt fine afterward.His were large and hard to break up.

Is this where I get to talk about my surgery for a staghorn calculus? LOL

Although I'd had three bouts with kidney stones (one lasting three days), I never felt a thing was wrong before this was discovered. It showed up when I was having a test for something else. It's called 'staghorn' because it is a large calcium deposit that branches off into the various areas of the kidney.

This was major surgery. One surgeon created a 'passage' through my back, into the kidney. The urologist then 'smashed' the calculus and suctioned it all out via the passage.

The surgery went well, but I had to sign myself out of the hospital with a drain in place. I was in fear of losing my life to LPN's who kept mixing up my meds.

This award-winning hospital was making a nice profit. Bestowers of awards evidently don't notice an overstretched nursing staff. I wasn't getting any rest because I had to be on guard all the time. My internist had insisted that I have a private duty nurse the first 24 hours for this reason. I recovered at home.

I haven't had another kidney problem in years. Nobody should have to live with that pain!

kathi_mdgd, I too have calcium stones. I have passed 20+ stones since I was 19 (50 now)....in fact I have 2 sitting there waiting to make a move right now. I have been through every test known to see if there was anything that could be done to so I wouldn't develop them...but it is just my body chemistry. One good thing about it all...I have great bone density! LOL

I have a Savior as a Dr., all I have to do is call and tell her I am passing stones and she gets me good drugs so I can stay home and pass them. I usually have to go up and get one shot to get above the pain. She is wonderful!

I passed one when I was about 7 months preggers with #1, the nurse came in and said she would be there when I delivered and she wanted to know from me which is worse. She did come in on the 2nd day I was in the hospital after delievering....I said a kidney stone is Much worse!
