Do any of you have a working cockoo clock in you house?

I have had one here since the kids were little. I love it, and hate when it is not working. Just a few times in the last 20 years or so I have had to take it in for repairs. Mostly just age related stuff.

I paid around $200 for it in the 80's and feel lost without its noise.

The grands love to wait and watch for the bird to come out. Such a simple thrill!

I do now! I haven't put it up yet, waiting to get the livingroom repainted.

Yes, we have one that my parents bought when we lived in Europe when I was a child.

Not that anyone is still following this, but this was me (which.chick) and I still have Charles de Mills and he still blooms amazingly every year and I still love him. Mme. Plantier died some years back in a hard winter. I shovel-pruned Stanwell Perpetual because he just looked sad, year after year, and it was depressing. *sigh* Fantin Latour powdery mildews (it's very humid at my house) and does not bloom every year for me. Just... not doing well. I have a friend who's about 200 feet lower than me in elevation with better sun and I'm relocating Fantin there. I've waited long enough for him to settle in and it just isn't going to happen. But, Ispahan is trouble free, HUGE, and produces hundreds of flowers, every single year. (Probably would like a trellis of some sort, but doesn't have one. I have a 3' fence around the base and he sort of fountains out of that. I hack off about 6' a year before winter to keep the canes tidy.) Never sick. Never dies from freezing. Has good clean foliage ALL SUMMER. Just... big and strong grower. Two thumbs up for that. I couldn't source either of the Belles back then, but if I move Fantin Latour, I will try again this spring.

Newhomebuilder, What a great find. I also love that clock that is worth way more than you paid for it. If I had a bigger home, I would love a clock just like yours. Donnakay, I've been reading that analog watches are actually back in style with younger folks, as a fashion statement (maybe not high school kids yet, but with younger professionals). It's the only mechanical thing in their lives and is therefore "retro" cool. Swatch reported its sales of analog watches was up this year as well. So maybe they're all relearning how to tell time! I love the orange shower! It reminds me of a field of California poppies. What a great way to start the day ^_^ I had an orange kitchen sink in my very first apartment as a grown up. It was otherwise a very traditional space, so the orange sink was an unexpected surprise that got lots of comments from visitors. My husband isn't nearly as adventurous as I am, so other than lots of traditional stained wood trim and built-ins on our first floor, we don't have a lot of fixed color in our house. He let me "go crazy" with black & white tile in our laundry room and kid/guest bathroom because he doesn't spend time in those rooms, but otherwise we went fairly neutral. Once we moved into our house and he loved the 2 rooms with the black & white tile, he said he wished he'd let me have freer reign in the other areas. The most colorful built-in item we have is our kitchen counter granite. I hadn't done any research before we made the decision to build a house together, so we had to make quick decisions on fixtures and that REALLY stressed me out, especially with the kitchen. I wasn't sold on even using granite, but our builder acted like that was the only reasonable choice there was. My biggest fear was that I'd end up hating the granite I picked, but 11 years later I love it even more than I did at first. It looks like green-blue sea foam mixed with sea shells to me. I was worried it would limit color choices (for walls and such) in our open floor plan... And maybe it does, but in a good way. We don't live near the coast anymore, but I'm still attracted to things that remind me of it. Here's a picture of it from a distance: And a close up:

I don't have one in my house, but I did grow up with one at my parents house. It was in the central hallway. My father bought it while on holiday once. I don't know where. I actually miss it! We had that and also a mantel clock that chimed. If you woke during the night you could always listen and know what time it was. It's amazing what sounds you get used to. Other people wouldn't be able to sleep through the noise!

Yes, we have several. My husband's business is clock repair so we always have a lot of different clocks going all the time. I guess were are used to all the cuckooing and chiming since it rarely bothers our sleep. Occasionally,if we have something really different in the shop, it will keep me awake.

mine is hanging on the wall but not working...my cat when she was just a baby did a number on the chains so got to take it in and have it repaired...I love hearing Edelweiss and have really missed it!

I have always wanted a Black Forest cuckoo clock. Never have gotten one, and there's really no reason why I haven't. Odd.

I have 5 loudly ticking and chiming antique clocks in the house, but no cuckoo clock. The DH wanted one, but I said no.

I won't change my mind, either. I just don't like them.

No, I don't have one. However my daughter Terri has one they bought when they went to Germany to visit her husband's family. It is very ornate and pretty big. All I can remember right now about it is the dead rabbits and game birds on it!

I don't have one in my house but my parents always had one and, in fact, my brother who still lives in that house, faithfully keeps that same clock running.

Yes. I have always loved "chiming" clocks and have several of them in the house. Unfortunately, I am so used to them that I rarely hear them anymore.

Nope. I built one from a kit years ago but it stopped running. It's still hanging on a wall in my Mom's house. Been silent over 40 years!

We got a Black Forest one in 1973. I moved back to my home town 10 years ago and guess we haven't started it much. One day a few months ago my oldest friend was here as she always is and I started it. She didn't know it still worked and I didn't know how much she loves cookoo clocks! We've been friends over 45 years. Thanks to you it's running again today.

Oh my gosh! I don't have any in my home, but I work 30 min from where i live. If I work on a Friday night till midnight, and have to be back at 6:00 am, I camp at my sisters. Her husband has a thing about clocks. 3 story house- in excess of 300 clocks! MANY are cookoos. So many that I hear noises every 10 minutes or so. I have gotten pretty used to it, but I noticed the last time that he brought a windup alarm clock downstairs so I wouldn't oversleep. yeah, like that would happen...lol..
Sis asked me a year ago or so if I thought it was menopause causing her sleep problems. I told her I think it is really causeomen bringing it on!!

We don't have a Cookoo, but we do have a mantle clock that has a song and chimes on the hour. We love it! I think it is a very "homey" sound.

Mine is also a black forest clock. I can lay anywhere in the house and listen to its chimes and know what time it is. Most of the time, like a lot of you mentioned, I don't hear it at all anymore. The two times it was broken, I felt like something terrible was missing in my house. It was awful! How funny we get attached to the sounds and the noises in our homes.

I had one for about 15 years and my cat broke it. I love the sound of a cockoo. I need to buy another, think I will check out ebay tonight.

Oh, me me! I have one and I love it. My favorite Aunt and my brother got it for me as a birthday/Christmas gift in 1998. It was the last gift from my Aunt as she passed away in April of 1999. So it holds a special spot in my heart. And it is still running and has a music box too.
