Cross stitch...boy do I feel old!!

I picked up a project that has been sitting for a few years. I can't see to do it in the house under the lamps, I can only see well enough to do it outside when the sun is out. I'd better hurry up and finish it before fall comes!

I know what you mean! I did so much x stitch years ago, and now my thumbs hurt and I can't do it at all. Better hurry and get it done, lol.

Oh how I can sympathize with you. When I do cross stitch I use a magnifying lens that hangs around my neck and a very bright light. And if it's a really tiny stitch I borrow my husband's fly tying stand - the magnifying lens is lighted.

lol....my mom and I always say...you can take everything away from us...but you can not stop us from laughing. It DOES keep you young at heart!! Kylie I sure danced SO much and now I know that I am crossing fingers AND toes in the future right away...cause it sure rained a lot here also. It was such a relief not to have to go out and water and the WHOLE yard is wet. Of course I was thinking about you. Hoping that you got your share of rain. PA so glad you got rain too and the rest who needed it! Haase the only time I burn candles is when I have a romantic evening with a glass of wine and Andrew's Gold by my side. Looks like the candles have to wait a bit longer. Besides, I do not turn on lights...I have these little night lights...on the floor. They really give you just enough light were you think wow...everything is a ok lol Lucy

"He had split with his pregnant girlfriend to be with me" OK, when I read this I knew it was headed towards a train-wreck...lovely way to start a relationship. "He expected me to take all the roles as a mum, work, and also carry on with university at age of 19/20. " He is wrong to expect this but more importantly you were a complete fool to agree to do it. "I am now 22 and i am expecting my first born..." Well I was about to tell you "get out before it's too late...but apparently it is. I still think you'd be better off...your "man" is an abusive jerk who is taking advantage of you and has for years...and for the record, I am not a man-hating woman or anything...I am a man in my 40's who is embarrassed that so many men take this approach (i.e. try to get their GFs to take care of their kids while they do what they want to do) Run away...as far as you legally can...from this guy (remember, it is his child, he does have legal rights to it, if he wants). It might be hard in the beginning but in the long run you will probably be better off. Sorry to come off so blunt....maybe if people had over the last few years you would not be in this position....good luck.

Unfortunately, aging is life. (Geeze, I sound like Yogi Berra.) I did not ask for it nor wish for it; Mr. Age sneaked up behind me, jumped on my back and said, "You're it! You getting old. Live with it! And don't mind me. I'm just along for the ride . . . on your back of course." "Oh, I hear your joints creaking." I knew my age bracket had changed when my social calendar began to fill with attending funerals. I noticed that happening 5 yrs ago, and it has not improved. It really hit home last month when I was encouraged (cajoled) into participating in a volley ball game with some of my peers. (They confuse me for a younger person because I'm not wrinkled and yet have hair.) I could not move fast enough to play. Ten years ago, I could. That hit me hard. Half of my high school class has passed away. My sister, 1.5 yr younger than me, is aging rapidly. It first showed in her handwriting. I wonder how she views me? We're smart enough not to ask each other that question. Its early March and cold outside. Maybe it will warm a bit in the next 2 weeks. I have to force myself to go out for a walk when its cold. I'll be glad for warmer weather. My approach is to ignore how old I am getting and plan for some enjoyable activities. Tomorrow, I'm meeting a friend from my former place of employment. (He was a Technician who did a lot of product development testing for me before I retired.) We'll have lunch together. I'll consult on a couple of technical problems he's having and then he'll roundly and soundly beat me in a round of pool in his basement. We'll finish the afternoon by watching a couple of Netflix videos.

Nicole, I do plan to open an Etsy store when I get back to Cathedral City. It took me a while of studying to figure out exactly how I want to handle, but I think I have it figured out now. Everyone seems to say that one should never put their store on vacation, but If I did not do this, then I would have to haul my inventory back to L.A. every time I went back and forth. I finally decided to ignore this advice and have my store open only when I am in Cathedral City. It will be much easier to ship from there, and I have much more storage space for my inventory. I've already photographed a lot of my inventory, and so now I just have to work out how I want my store to look and how to describe everything. I've bought quite a few things on Etsy (including a couple of expensive clocks) and have been happy with the site for that. I only plan to have the store until I run out of fabric, and I do not intend to invest in more fabric once most of it has sold. Thanks for the reminder! The money will be helpful (although not essential), and it will also give me something to do in the desert, where I am much more focused. In L.A., I cannot keep up with yard work, and I really need to hire some help for that. I'm just really distrustful of local gardeners, as they usually do not appreciate what I have and are capable of doing a lot of damage. However, at this point, I think more damage will be done if I do not hire someone. I'm just not able to do everything for both houses. Maintenance in CC is very minimal, and we do have a pool service there. I guess I just need to pay for yard service in L.A. as well. This would cut into our budget for international travel, but that's on hold for now anyway. I don't think I'm too old to do renovations, and we plan to renovate our kitchen in Cathedral City in January or February.

What you all need is an Ott light,or a replica of one.The light from them is brighter and a true light if you know what i mean.I also use a mag eyes magnifying glass like this.

I've had mine for years.I also had the one that hangs around your neck,but didn't like that one.
I stitch almost every night and sometimes during the day if it's too hot to work in the gardens.

I love my OTT light. I bought it when Michaels had a 50% off day and bought the floor lamp one. It was the best investment I have ever bought when it comes to doing my craftwork.

I think I'll start with the magnifying glass, and then get the light if I need one. The magnifying glass is more mobile, and I don't always sit in the same spot.

I have both the floor free standing Ott light and the little portable one.I don't sit in the same spot either,sometimes in the recliner,sometimes in my sewing room,and sometimes on the patio.I've even stitched at the kitchen table.

Never understood people who could do the cross stitch calendar! NO WAY could I do something like that intime to use it!

I'll vouch for the OTT lights, too. I have what Kathi has, 2 of them. They make handwork of any kind so much easier. I used to cross stitch a lot, but really don't need any more pictures for the walls or anything like that, so I gave it all up when seeing the stuff up close got a bit harder. Bifocals, arrrrgh!
